By Jason Kim: Light welterweight contender Victor Ortiz (24-2-1, 19 KO’s) got a painful lesson in his last fight when he was stopped in the 6th round by knockout artist Marcos Maidana on June 27th at the Staples Center, in Los Angeles. Ortiz, 22, made the mistake of trying to slug with a slugger and ended up getting taken out in the 6th round by the powerful Maidana.

Ortiz Didn’t Quit!
By Manuel Perez: Let me get some things straight for all the critics that have come out of the woodwork after Victor Ortiz’s 6th round stoppage loss last weekend against Marcos Maidana. Ortiz didn’t quit and wasn’t about to quit at the time the fight was stopped. The referee is the one that took Ortiz over to the ringside doctor and he was the one that said the fight should be stopped after he saw what a mess of a cut that Ortiz had over his left eye.
Should Ortiz Fight Maidana Again?
By Matt Stein: I personally think that light welterweight contender Victor Ortiz (24-2-1, 19 KOs) is a great fighter, possibly as good as his promoter Oscar De La Hoya thinks he is, but I’m not so sure that Ortiz has the chin or the intestinal fortitude to beat knockout artist Marcos Maidana (26-1, 25 KO’s) in a rematch if it comes to that.
Ortiz KO’d in the 6th!
By Eric Hernandez: Tonight was suppose to be the out coming party for Victor Ortiz, instead what we might have gotten was a retiring party. After getting knocked out by Marcos Rene Maidana (26-1 25 ko’s) Victor Ortiz sounded like a man not long for this sport. I have stated in the past that putting the super star tag on Victor Ortiz before he was tested was premature and that tonight would be his greatest test and sadly enough he failed miserably.
Victor Ortiz vs Marcos Rene Maidana Round-By-Round
By Brian Kenneth Blackwell: Pre-Fight Entrances:
Maidana comes out slowly. He is sporting a solid red robe. He wears a look of caution. It is his first fight in the United States. Ortiz comes out to a halfway packed house, wearing a green and white robe; his chin held high in machismo fashion. The music of Michael Jackson plays in the background; it fades into mariachi music. The ring announcer informs the crowd that the bout will determine the new WBA Interim Super Lightweight Championship. The crowd boos loudly when Maidana’s name is called.

Lopez-Lontchi, Ortiz-Maidana this Saturday – News
By Sean McDaniel: WBO super bantamweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez (25-0, 23 KO’s) will be facing undefeated challenger Olivier Lontchi (18-0-1, 8 KO’s) in a 12-round bout at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Incredibly, the bout will be a pay-per-view fight which was past on by both Showtime and HBO cable networks, who probably saw the fight as a one-sided mismatch and decided to pass on it because of that.
Ortiz vs. Maidana on June 27th
By Jason Kim: Red hot light welterweight contender Victor Ortiz (24-1-1, 19 KOs) will be taking perhaps the toughest fight of his young career on June 27th in taking on the powerful Argentinean Marcos Maidana (25-1, 24 KOs) in a scheduled 12-round bout for the interim WBA light welterweight title at the Staples Center, in Los Angeles, California.
Kirkland vs. Dzinziruk in Loaded Card on June 27th? – News
By Eric Thomas: According to The Ring’s boxing website, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is trying to arrange a big three-fight card involving WBO light middleweight champion Sergiy Dzinziruk (36-0, 22 KOs) against number #3 ranked WBO challenger James Kirkland (25-0, 22 KOs) for June 27th.
Boxing Results: Ortiz and Kirkland Win, Guerrero Fight a No Decision
By Chris Williams: In a night of mismatches, typical of Golden Boy Promotions fights, James Kirkland stopped Joel Julio in the 6th round at The Tank in San Jose, CA. Kirkland, 24, was simply too strong for Julio, and got the better of him in every exchange during the short bout. Kirkland landed with the better shots, cutting Julio and hurting him as the rounds progressed.
