By James The Grad: In the past I have been successful here on Boxing News 24 determining who would be the Fighter of the Year and while it is still very early to make a prediction I would say Mikey Garcia has the biggest opportunity this year to win Fighter of the Year and catapult to the top of the P4P list. The reason for this is simple, the opponents he could face this year.
Vasiliy Lomachenko
Cotto vs. Kamegai possible for 6/24; Lomachenko-Sosa ratings – News
By Dan Ambrose: Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33 KOs) is being talked about returning to the ring on June 24 against possibly 34-year-old #10 WBA, #12 WBO, #13 WBC junior middleweight Yoshihiro Kamegai (27-3-2, 24 KOs). Cotto hasn’t fought in a 1 ½ years since losing to Saul Canelo Alvarez by a 12 round decision in November 2015. Cotto, 36, took 2016 off from boxing. He probably would have fought if he could have gotten a fight against 43-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez, but he wasn’t able to negotiate the fight.
The Lomachenko hype reminds me of Linares
By Hector Gonzalez: A few years back I recall what the pundits were saying about Jorge Linares. I remember watching the Venezuelan vs. Antonio De Marco on HBO. The HBO commentators were hyping Linares, and understandably so. Emmanuel Stewart (RIP) said that Linares was one of the best boxers he had ever seen. Linares was the heavy favorite vs De Marco, Linares boxed beautifully, amazing footwork, angles, beautiful combinations yet he had a major defect, his face was susceptible to cuts from heavy punches.
Boxing Current State: Dreams of Spring, In Search of the Next P4P King
By Carlos Rodrigo: In a realm without a king, the kingdom needs a leader and many valiant champions are ready to go to war for the throne. From the old continent, a wave of young hungry warriors is coming knocking down doors, windows and whatever or whomever comes their way. The old American guard is aging; its reflexes and elusiveness are eroding, but like an old fox it still has a few tricks up its sleeve. The boxing nation is divided and with no clear consensus in sight, we all wonder is there anyone worthy of lady glory? Who will claim her hand and take strides to take the throne and be universally proclaimed as the toughest, meanest son of a gun to roam God’s green earth?
Mikey Garcia wants Lomachenko to win a title at 135 before he faces him
By Dan Ambrose: WBC lightweight champion Mikey Garcia (35-0, 30 KOs) says a fight between him and WBO super featherweight champion Vasyl “Hi-Tech” Lomachenko (8-1, 6 KOs) can definitely happen, possibly in 2017 or 2018, but he wants him to move up to the lightweight division, fight a couple of times and win a title before he faces him.
Lomachenko wants Mikey Garcia, Flanagan, Crawford or Salido
By Dan Ambrose: Vasyl Lomachenko made it look incredibly easy last Saturday night in dispatching Jason Sosa in the 9th round in their fight on HBO World Championship Boxing, but now he wants Mikey Garcia, Terence Crawford, Orlando Salido or Terry Flanagan. Lomachenko (8-1, 6 KOs) says he’s going to ask his promoters at Top Rank to get him a title fight against one of the other champions at super featherweight, and if they’re unable to do so, then he’ll be moving up to lightweight to go after champions Mikey Garcia and Terry Flanagan.

The fight was stopped by Sosa’s trainer at the end of the 9th round. He didn’t want Sosa to continue to soak up needless punishment at the hands of Lomachenko.
Lomachenko vs. Sosa & Smith vs. Williams predictions
By Harry Rowland:
Vasyl Lomachenko vs Jason Sosa (08/04/2017) analysis and prediction
At 29, Vasyl Lomachenko 7-1 (5) is clearly in the prime of his career and seemingly getting better with every bout, having transformed from the complete amateur, to the complete professional in just a handful of fights. Since learning a hard lesson in the necessity to plant his feet and sit down on his punches, in a loss against seasoned professional Orlando Salido in 2014, he has quickly become one of the best fighters on the planet.
