Lomachenko wants the boxing fans to know right up front that he DOES NOT need to fight the undefeated former 2-time Olympic gold medalist Rigondeaux. But if a fight between the two former Olympic gold medalists take place, Lomachenko (8-1, 6 KOs) says he would destroy Rigondeaux (17-0, 11 KOs).

Lomachenko-Marriaga will be televised on ESPN and ESPN Deportes starting at 10:00 p.m. ET. This should be an entertaining fight if Marriaga has anything left from the punishment he absorbed in his recent loss.

By Chris Williams: Vasyl Lomachenko (8-1, 6 KOs) has a big fight if he’s interested in fighting 2-time Olympic gold medalist Guillermo Rigondeaux (17-0, 11 KOs). The unbeaten Cuban talent has called out Lomachenko repeatedly in the last week asking initially for a fight at 126. That offer did not perk up interest by Lomachenko thus far. Rigondeaux has now offered to move up 2 weight classes to fight Lomachenko at 130. Rigondeaux says he’s still not hearing Lomachenko agree to the fight despite him being willing to fight in his weight class at super featherweight.

It’s a mistake both casual fans and experts get drawn into, as shown time and again, but most recently in the debate over who would win a fight between Mikey Garcia and Vasyl Lomachenko. I personally can’t count the number of times I’ve heard someone say that because Mikey Garcia (Fighter A in this instance) beat Orlando Salido (Fighter B) who got a decision over Vasyl Lomachenko (Fighter C), that means that Hi-Tech will automatically lose to Mikey Garcia. This faulty logic ignores another and truer precept of boxing: styles make fights.
