Rios vs. Antillon this Saturday

By Dan Ambrose: WBA World lightweight champion Brandon Rios (27-0-1, 20 KO’s) will be making his first defense of his World Boxing Association title this Saturday night against #12 ranked WBA contender Urbano Antillon (28-2, 20 KO’s) at the Home Depot Center, in Carson, California. It’s a decent but far from great fight, as Antillon has lost two out of his last four fights and has only beaten a small handful of top tier fighters during his 11 year pro career.

Cintron to fight on Antillon-Rios undercard on 7/9

By Dan Ambrose: Former IBF welterweight champion Kermit Cintron (32-3-1, 28 KO’s) will be fighting on the undercard of the WBA lightweight title fight between champion Brandon Rios vs. challenger Urbano Antillon on July 9th. There still isn’t an opponent picked out for the 31-year-old Cintron but one should be selected shortly. Cintron recently signed with Top Rank promotions and is thought to be in the running for a fight against other Top Rank stable fighters Manny Pacquiao or Miguel Cotto in the near future.

Alvarado vs. Narh to replace Soto-Antillon 2 on Pacquiao-Mosley card

By Chris Williams: If you were hoping that Top Rank would come up with an exciting replacement bout to substitute for the lightweight rematch between WBC lightweight champion Humberto Soto and Urbano Antillon, I’m afraid fans are going to be sadly disappointed. Instead of a comparable fight to replace Antillon-Soto, the replacement fight will reportedly be a bout between fringe light welterweight contender Mike Alvarado 29-0, 21 KO’s) vs. Ray Narh (25-1, 21 KO’s).

Soto-Antillon 2 off May 7th Pacquiao vs. Mosley fight card

By Chris Williams: Arguably the best fight of the May 7th fight card disappeared with the news that WBC lightweight champion Humberto Soto (55-7-2, 32 KO’s) has dropped off the Manny Pacquiao vs. Shane Mosley fight undercard at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Soto, 30, was supposed to be fighting a rematch with lightweight contender Urbano Antillon. The two fighters went at it last year in December in one of the most fights of the year.

Soto-Antillon is the better fight compared to Pacquiao-Mosley

By Chris Williams: A fight that belongs in the main event on May 7th instead of on the undercard is the rematch between World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight champion Humberto Soto (54-7-2, 32 KO’s) and challenger Urbano Antillon (28-2, 20 KO’s), who will be fighting on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao vs. Shane Mosley bout at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Humberto Soto vs. Urbano Antillon on Saturday

By Jason Kim: World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight champion Humberto Soto (53-7-2, 32 KO’s) will be making his 3rd defense of his WBC title on Saturday night in the In Harm’s Way fight card against #6 ranked contender Urbano Antillon (28-1, 20 KO’s) at the Honda Center, Anaheim, California. Antillon has good power but rather poor defensive skills. He also has a habit of blocking punches with his face. In terms of offensive skills, Antillon is pretty even with Soto in that regard.

Donaire-Sidorenko & Soto-Antillon: Is this card worth purchasing?

Image: Donaire-Sidorenko & Soto-Antillon: Is this card worth purchasing?By Chris Williams: With Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. pulling out of this Saturday’s fight card, it means that Nonito Donaire’s fight against former WBA bantamweight champion Wladimir Sidorenko (22-2-2, 7 KO’s) will be pushed up to the main event for the fight. That seems like a nice little mismatch to me. The other halfway decent fight on the card is WBC lightweight champion Humberto Soto (53-7-2, 32 KO’s) fighting lightweight contender Urbano Antillon (28-1, 20 KO’s).
