Bellew sees himself fighting Cleverly at cruiserweight

bellow657By Scott Gilfoid: Tony Bellew (20-2-1, 12 KO’s) is now a two-time former world champion challenger and on both occasions he’s been beaten in defeats against former WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly and the current WBC champion Adonis Stevenson. And while Bellew has given up on the 175 lb. division in his decision to move up to cruiserweight, he still wants to fight Cleverly to avenge his loss. Bellew thinks he and Cleverly will meet up at cruiserweight at some point in the future so that he can avenge his 12 round decision loss from 2011.

“There’s no two ways about it, I detest him and he doesn’t like me, so it’s going to happen,” Bellew said to Sky Sports.

Bellew targeting Wlodarczyk for WBC cruiserweight title

bellew74By Scott Gilfoid: After having taking a thrashing from WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson last Saturday night in Quebec, Canada, Britain’s Tony Bellew (20-2-1, 12 KO’s) has decided it’s too much trouble for him to struggle to make the 175 lb. weight division, and that he instead thinks he’ll be better off fighting as a cruiserweight.

The 6’3″ Bellew doesn’t want to take on the two champions – Marco Huck and Yoan Pablo Hernandez – first, but he intends on going after WBC cruiserweight champion Krzysztof Wlodarczyk (48-2-1, 34 KO’s) first, and if successful, to fight Huck and Hernandez in unification bouts.

Stevenson-Bellew, Kovalev-Sillakh draws 1.3 million viewers on HBO

kovalev57By Allan Fox: Last Saturday’s card headlined by WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (23-1, 20 KO’s) vs. Tony Bellew (20-2-1, 12 KO’s) with WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (23-0-1, 21 KO’s) vs. Ismayl Sillakh (21-2, 17 KO’s) in the co-feature, reportedly drew 1.305 million viewers on HBO, according to Dan Rafael. These are big numbers and it proves that Stevenson is becoming a draw in the United States on HBO.

Having Kovalev on the undercard obviously helped because he’s picking up a lot of fans too with the way that he’s knocking out everyone he faces. However, most of the fans that tuned in were likely watching to see Stevenson fight because he’s better known than Kovalev in the U.S. from his previous fights against Chad Dawson and Chad Dawson.

Hearn to get Bellew a 3rd World title shot

bellew676By Scott Gilfoid: Eddie Hearn, the promoter for Tony Bellew (20-2-1, 12 KO’s), says he doesn’t feel that the 6’1″ Bellew has to lower his heights and start fighting domestic level opposition instead of world class competition following his 6th round stoppage loss to WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (23-1, 20 KO’s) last night at the Colisee de Quebec, Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. Hearn says he’s going to work to get Bellew a third world title shot. I guess the old saying ‘Three’s a charm’ comes into play for Bellew.

Hearn said “He’s [Bellew] had two title shots at world titles. He has to go for a third one.”

Bellew moving to cruiserweight

stevenson58By Scott Gilfoid: Liverpool’s Tony Bellew (20-2-1, 12 KO’s) is talking about moving up to the cruiserweight division following his humiliating 6th round knockout loss last night against WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (23-1, 20 KO’s) at the Colisee de Quebec, Quebec City, Quebec, Canada.

Despite weeks of boastful trash talking from Bellew in saying how he was going to KO Stevenson and take his WBC title back to Liverpool to parade it around, Bellew ended up being just a punching bag for Stevenson to pound for 6 rounds until knocking Bellew out. The referee Michael Griffin had to step in and halt the bout at 1:50 of the 6th round as Bellew was getting worked over in the corner by Stevenson following a knockdown.

Adonis Stevenson calls out Froch after smashing Bellew

stevenson54By Scott Gilfoid: WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (23-1, 20 KO’s) wasted no time in calling out IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch for his next fight after making easy work of a painfully over-matched and incredibly slow Tony Bellew (20-2-1, 12 KO’s) in a 6th round knockout on Saturday night at the Colisee de Quebec, Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. Moments after knocking Bellew out, Stevenson said “I want Carl Froch and Bernard Hopkins.”

Froch had an opportunity to fight Stevenson earlier this year, but he decided to fight Mikkel Kessler again rather than take what would have been a very dangerous fight against Stevenson.

Bellew: I’m not coming here to lose to Adonis

HBO Boxing After Dark Weigh-In: Adonis Stevenson vs Tony BellewBy Scott Gilfoid: Tony Bellew (20-1-1, 12 KO’s) has himself all worked up for tonight’s fight against WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (22-1, 19 KO’s), and with the way that he’s been talking, it almost feels like it’s a do or die type of a fight for the 31-year-old Bellew at the Colisee de Quebec, Quebec City, Quebec, Canada.

Bellew said to the Liverpool Echo “Come Saturday night, there’s only going to be one winner. He’s got to understand that I’m not coming here to lose. People have no idea what is at stake and how far I’m willing to go. He can’t beat me. I’m 6’3″ and he is so small. He looks like he’s fallen off my key ring. He is not getting to me. I was getting to him towards the end of the press conference.”

Stevenson wants 48-year-old Bernard Hopkins next in a unification bout, as he sees this as a good business decision due to Hopkins’ popularity.

Bellew: I deserve to be champion on November 30th

bellew2By Scott Gilfoid: Tony Bellew (20-1-1, 12 KO’s) thinks the fact that he was able to KO Edison Miranda while Andre Ward couldn’t, proves that he’s a top fighter and capable of beating WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (22-1, 19 KO’s) on Saturday night at the Colisee de Quebec, Quebec City, Quebec, Canada.

Bellew said to Sky Sports “He [Miranda] fought Andre Ward two fights before me and Ward couldn’t stop him. I stopped him and still got a ton of criticism for is. Andre Ward is the kingpin but he couldn’t stop Miranda. I deserve to be champion on November 30th.”
