Broner vs. Porter: Will Adrien get exposed again?

broner5555By Allan Fox: #4 WBA, #4 WBC, #5 IBF, #9 WBO welterweight contender Shawn Porter (25-1-1, 16 KOs) will be in the ring facing former three division world champion Adrien Broner (30-1, 22 KOs) in a catch-weight fight at 145 pounds on NBC on Premier Boxing Champions in 12 days from now on June 20th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Broner has a nice three fight winning streak going for him since his defeat at the hands of Marcos Maidana in 2013. Broner moved down to the light welterweight division after that fight, and he’s done well against the limited opposition he’s faced.

Porter: Broner is walking into the lion’s den, he can’t run for long

porter100By Allan Fox: Former IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (25-1-1, 16 KOs) says he’s ready to chase down Adrien Broner (30-1, 22 KOs) and force him to fight in their catch-weight fight at 144 pounds this month on June 20th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Broner isn’t much of a runner so it’s hard to understand where Porter is coming from in saying he’s going to chase him down if he has to. Broner will likely be stationary and fighting behind his normal shoulder roll defense.

Broner-Porter: Shawn not worried about 144lb catch-weight

porter#1By Dan Ambrose: Former IBF welterweight title holder Shawn Porter (25-1-1, 16 KOs) is totally unconcerned with having to melt down three extra pounds to make the 144 pound catch-weight for his fight next month on June 20th against former three division world champion Adrien Broner (30-1, 22 KOs) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The 27-year-old Porter isn’t surprised that Broner wanted a catch-weight for the fight because he figured that he would look to gain every advantage in the book in order to get an edge against him.

Gavin misses IBF deadline for eliminator, Porter vs. Bradley now possible

gavin577By Scott Gilfoid: #5 IBF Frankie Gavin (22-1, 13 KOs) reportedly missed the IBF deadline for him to commit to an IBF 147 pound eliminator bout against #3 IBF Tim Bradley. As such, the IBF will be replacing Gavin with #6 IBF Shawn Porter to see if he’s interested in facing Bradley. It’s unclear if Porter will agree to that considering that his adviser is Al Haymon and Bradley’s promoter Bob Arum.

As for Gavin, it’s really not all that surprising that he didn’t go for the IBF eliminator bout against Bradley because it’s not as if he needs an eliminator bout to fight IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook.
