Tarver dares Shannon Briggs to fight him

tarver33By Gav Duthie: One might think Antonio Tarver and Shannon Briggs are the same. Washed up 40 something year old ex-champions looking for a big payday. The difference seems to be Tarver has some morals and standards as to how he gets that shot.

Shannon Briggs

Shannon Briggs thinks he can insult Wladimir Klitschko on twitter, follow him around Europe to his training camp, his press conferences and even in public to goad him into fighting.

Shannon Briggs: I’ll knock Deontay Wilder out

wilder4By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs (57-6-1, 50 KOs) is talking about him facing IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO strap holder Wladimir Klitschko later this year in September. Klitschko will be 39-years-old by the time that fight takes place, and Briggs, 43, figures to beat him and then face WBC champion Deontay Wilder (33-0, 32 KOs) in a unification match that would likely bring in big numbers in the United States.

Briggs thinks he’ll not only beat the 6’7” Wilder, but knock him out in the process. I mean, it’s going to be tough as it is for Briggs to get past Wladimir, but if he can do that, he’s really going to have his work cut out for him against the hard-hitting Deontay.

Briggs: “I have a date with Klitschko set for September”

wladimir56437By Dan Ambrose: 43-year-old former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs (57-6-1, 50 KOs) says he’s got an agreement with IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (63-3, 53 KOs) to face him later this year in September if Wladimir gets past the unbeaten Bryant Jennings (19-0, 10 KOs) in their fight on April 25th.

Briggs has been hounding the 38-year-old Klitschko for a fight in the last year, and his hard work has paid off with Klitschko giving him the fight, if what Briggs is saying is true.

Wladimir Klitschko: I want to fight and punish Shannon Briggs!

wladimir44465By Scott Gilfoid: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (63-3, 53 KOs) has reportedly already booked the O2 Arena in Hamburg, Germany to face the 43-year-old Shannon Briggs (57-6-1, 50 KOs) later on this year in September after Wladimir takes care of #2 WBA, #3 WBC, #4 WBO, #6 IBF challenger Bryant Jennings (19-0, 10 KOs) in their fight on April 25th at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Wladimir is tired of the way that Briggs, a former WBO heavyweight strap holder, has been following him around and ambushing him at various places in order to get Wladimir to fight him.

Wladimir could face Shannon Briggs if Jennings fight doesn’t take place

wladimir76By Scott Gilfoid: If IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (63-3, 53 KOs) is unable to negotiate a fight against unbeaten #2 WBA, #3 WBC, #5 WBO, #8 IBF Bryant Jennings (19-0, 10 KOs) in the early part of 2015, then Klitschko will wind up facing the 43-year-old Shannon Briggs (57-6-1, 50 KOs), according to Fightnews.com.

The Klitschko-Briggs or Klitschko-Jennings fights will take place in New York, and will be televised on HBO. Wladimir’s manager Bernd Bonte says that Briggs will be the backup plan if the Jennings fight doesn’t get made.

There’s no reason for the Jennings-Klitschko fight not to get made, however, because it’s unlikely that Jennings’ management are going to make it difficult to put the fight together. Jennings and his team obviously feel confident about their man’s chances of beating the 38-year-old Wladimir, and all they need is a chance to fight him so they can take his straps.

Wladimir Klitschko vs. Shannon Briggs possible for 2015

wladimir76By Allan Fox: After months of pursuing a fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (63-3, 53 KOs), it’s starting to look like it’s going to pay off for the soon to be 43-year-old former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs (57-6-1, 50 KOs).

Wladimir, 38, is saying that he’s interested in the fight if the German public wants to see it. For some odd reason, Wladimir’s German boxing fans are highly interested in seeing him fight Briggs even though Briggs hasn’t fought a quality heavyweight in four years since Briggs was soundly beaten by Wladimir’s older brother former WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko in a 12 round unanimous decision loss in 2010.

Before that fight, Briggs hadn’t fought a decent heavyweight since his one-sided loss to Sultan Ibragimov back in 2007.

Shannon Briggs stops Cory Phelps

briggsBy Dan Ambrose: #14 WBA heavyweight contender Shannon Briggs (56-6-1, 49 KOs), stopped a fighter named Cory Phelps (16-7-1, 8 KOs) in the 1st round last Saturday night at the Ring of Dreams Boxing Gym, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA.

Briggs knocked out the balding 30-year-old Phelps with a right hand to the head to win the interim WBC Latino heavyweight title. In a little over a minute of action, Briggs knocked Phelps down three times in the round with head shots. After the 3rd knockdown the referee finally stopped the slaughter.

The fight could have been stopped after the first knockdown because Phelps was down on his side on the canvas and looking badly hurt. Instead the referee calmly waited until Phelps slowly picked himself up off the canvas before he let the fight continue.
