By William Mackay: Former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs may have gotten badly beaten in his 12 round landslide loss to WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitachko last Saturday night in Germany, but Briggs showed a ton of heart by staying in there and taking massive punishment for 12 rounds from Vitali without once going down in the fight. But Briggs never stopped attacking in the fight, and ended up throwing a respectable 316 punches in the route loss. That’s a decent number of punches for someone who was literally getting his head taken off all night long by the giant Klitschko.

Vitali Klitschko Vs Shannon Briggs – K2 still number one
By Adam Fillingham: There is only one direction now for big Shannon Briggs and that is retirement. But he should retire happy with a performance to be proud of against the heavyweight champion of the world Vitali Klitschko.
Shannon didn’t even fight that well. In fact it was quite a poor performance. But what he can be proud of is that he had what no other American heavyweight challenger has had in years. That is determination, heart, guts and a granite chin.
Vitali’s brutal bludgeoning of Briggs may make a fight with Haye less likely to happen
Photo credit Sumio Yamada – By William Mackay: By now, WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (24-1 22 KO’s) has likely had the time to watch WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko’s brutal bludgeoning of challenger Shannon Briggs (51-6-1, 45 KO’s) at least twice, and Haye probably not eager now to have the potential of Vitali doing the same thing to him in the ring.
Will Briggs ever be the same again after the loss to Klitschko?
By Jason Kim: Shannon Briggs (51-6-1, 45 KO’s) sustained a savage 12 round decision beating at the hands of WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (41-2, 38 KO’s) last Saturday night in Germany. Briggs took clean right hands all night long and yet never went down. In this case, Briggs may have been better off if he had been knocked out because it would have saved him from taking the punishment he ended up taking from Klitschko.
Briggs loses to Klitschko after tearing his left bicep

Fighting with only his right arm for much of the fight, Briggs was unable to use his main weapon – his left hook – take out the tall Ukrainian. It was almost as if Briggs was fighting with a crippling injury, because it left him with no back-up plan.
Briggs in hospital for broken orbital bone, broken nose and torn left biceps suffered in loss to Klitschko
By Jim Dower: Former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs (51-6-1, 45 KO’s) is still hospitalized in Hamburg, Germany, after sustaining a terrible beating in a 12 round unanimous decision loss to World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (41-2, 38 KO’s) on Saturday night at the O2 World Arena, in Hamburg, Germany. Briggs, 38, took enormous punishment from Klitschko from the 1st round until the end of the fight, but somehow he was able to stay upright and make it to the end of the fight without going down or being stopped.
Briggs vs. Klitschko: Vitali’s body is willing but his flesh is weak
By Dave Lahr: Former World Boxing Organization (WBO) heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs (51-5-1, 45 KO’s) is poised to win another world title tonight when he faces WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (40-2, 38 KO’s) at the O2 World Arena, in Hamburg, Germany. It’s been four years since the 38-year-old Briggs last won a world title when he took out a then young Sergei Liakhovich in the 12th round with only one second left in the fight. Briggs is now ready to win another title and this time against the 39-year-old Vitali. Briggs is a huge underdog in this fight, but people are forgetting how hard Briggs hits and how weak Vitali’s facial skin is around his eyes.
Haye says Briggs vs. Klitschko fight is a “Waste of time”
By William Mackay: WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (24-1, 22 KO’s) appears to be a little green with envy about tonight’s title fight between World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (40-2, 38 KO’s and Shannon Briggs (51-5-1, 45 KO’s) in Germany.
Klitschko-Briggs: Shannon isn’t taking his last chance seriously
By Mark Hepplestall: Former World Boxing Organization WBO) heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs (51-5-1, 45 KO’s) came in on the scales at 262 lbs, which was 22 pounds more then he has been saying he will come in at, considering he is challenging for the WBC Heavyweight title against champion Vitali Klitschko (40-2, 38 KO’s) I thought he would at least show up in shape for the fight. Unfortunately his flabby exterior and very small legs when compared to his upper body make him look like The Great Pyramid upside down. It’s clear to all to see that he is not built for the 12 rounds but maybe only a 4 round dash.
Briggs tricks Vitali by coming in at 262 for Saturday’s bout
By Dave Lahr: Former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs (51-5-1, 45 KO’s) pulled a little bit if trickery on WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (40-2, 38 KO’s) by making him think that he would be coming in light for the fight in the low 240s. Instead, Briggs weighed in at 262 at Friday’s weigh-in, which is about as much as Briggs has been weighing in most of his fights in the past nine years.
