By Manuel Perez: Floyd Mayweather Jr. (39-0, 25 KOs) made it official today that he’s coming back after more than a year away from boxing to fight lightweight Juan Manuel Marquez on July 18th at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Excuse me if I don’t get excited about the bout, because it seems like another case of Mayweather, a welterweight, finding a smaller opponent that he feels that he can beat.
Shane Mosley
News – Mosley Wants Winner of Hatton-Pacquiao
By Chris Williams: It always amuses me when Shane Mosley (46-5, 39 KOs) says something. Apparently, Mosley wants to fight the winner of the Ricky Hatton vs. Manny Pacquiao bout for Ricky’s International Boxing Organization title tonight at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. I bet he does. It’s too bad Floyd Mayweather Jr. is going to foul up Mosley’s wishes and leave him in the cold without either of Hatton or Pacquiao.
Mosley Wants Winner of Pacquiao-Hatton – But Do They Want Him?
By Eric Thomas: It comes to no surprise that Shane Mosley (46-5, 39 KOs) wants to fight the winner of the May 2nd bout between Ricky Hatton and Manny Pacquiao. It’s also not that much of a shock that Mosley isn’t interested in fighting Paul Williams right now. Obviously the big money is in fighting Hatton and Pacquiao rather than Williams, who bring huge risks for the shorter 5’9″ Mosley without the big payday that Hatton or Pacquiao would bring. A fight against 6’2″ Williams would likely end in a loss for Mosley, as he’s had trouble against taller fighters like Vernon Forrest, losing twice to him.
News: Mayweather Jr. To Make Comeback on July 11th
By Jim Dower: According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, Floyd Mayweather Jr. (39-0, 25 KOs) is poised to make a comeback on July 11th, looking at fighting the winner of the May 2nd bout between Ricky Hatton and Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather, now 32, hasn’t stepped foot in the ring since beating Ricky Hatton by a 10th round stoppage a year and half ago in December 2007. Shortly after that bout, an emotional Mayweather announced his retirement from boxing and was said to be concentrating on becoming a business man.
Too ‘Old’ To Box – Rogan, Williams, Marquez, Mosley
By Zubair Ali: Recent fights have had me thinking that the definition of an ‘old’ fighter needs revising. A fighter in his 30’s no longer seems to be all that old. Rob Norton at 37 handed David Dolan the second defeat of his career for the British cruiserweight title in what proved to be a thrilling and tight affair. Martin Rogan, 37 and Matt Skelton, 42 contested the Commonwealth heavyweight title in a bruising encounter in which Rogan upset the odds with an 11th round stoppage and continued his fairytale story.
News: Barrera On Mission Against Khan; Molina Signs With Goosen
The 12-round main event March 14th between 22-year-old lightweight prospect Amir Khan and Hall of Fame bound multiple world champion, “The Baby Faced Assassin” Marco Antonio Barrera, shapes up as a potential classic at The M.E.N. Arena in Manchester, United Kingdom.
Mayweather Wanted $20 million guarantee To Fight Mosley
By Sean McDaniel: According to Boxing Confidential, Floyd Mayweather Jr. wanted an absurd $20 million dollar guarantee to fight Shane Mosley. Apparently, Golden Boy Promotions met with Mayweather about a perspective fight with Mosley, but Mayweather wanted $20 million guaranteed money in order to take the bout said promoter Bob Arum to Boxing Confidential.
Why Does Roach Want Pacquiao To Fight Mosley?
By William Mackay: If Manny Pacquiao (48-3-2, 36 KOs) defeats Ricky Hatton on May 2nd, we could very well be seeing Pacquiao take on World Boxing Association welterweight champion Shane Mosley (46-5, 39 KOs) in his next bout. Apparently, Pacquiao’s trainer, the great Freddie Roach, is all for it, calling it a “Great fight.” I don’t how he could even consider putting Pacquiao in with a fighter as big and as talented as Mosley, because this is a step too far for Pacquiao as far as I’m concerned.
Cotto Not Likely To Face Mosley Next
By Manuel Perez: If Miguel Cotto (32-1, 26 KOs) gets by Michael Jennings (46-5, 39 KOs) this Saturday night at the Madison Square Garden, in New York, New York, the one fighter that Cotto probably won’t be facing is WBA welterweight champion Shane Mosley. In the recent conference call interview with Cotto and his promoter Bob Arum, both Cotto seemed to side step around questions about whether Cotto would be fighting Mosley if Shane defeats Jennings.
Is Margarito The Best Welterweight When Not Being Clinched?
By Manuel Perez: Shane Mosley proved one thing last week on January 24th, namely that he can beat Antonio Margarito when he’s clinching him often from eight to ten times per round. When Mosley was draped all over Margarito, Shane proved that he’s a better fighter than him at that style of non-fighting. But Mosley’s win didn’t prove that he’s a better overall fighter when you remove the clinching from the action.
