Chavez Jr’s size = problems for Canelo

Image: Chavez Jr’s size = problems for Canelo

By Dan Ambrose: 45-year-old former three division world champion Shane Mosley says he thinks the size of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (50-2-1, 32 KOs) could be a big problem for Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) in their fight on HBO PPV on May 6. Mosley thinks that Canelo could come into the fight at 172 pounds, and Chavez Jr. around 190.

The near 20 pound weight advantage for Chavez Jr. could help him in getting the better of Canelo. Mosley still thinks Canelo could outpoint Chavez Jr., but he’s entirely sure about that. The size of Chavez Jr. is the hard thing for Mosley to overlook in this fight, because Canelo will be giving away so much height, reach and weight.

Mosley not in favor of Khan fighting in Olympics

khan7633

By Scott Gilfoid: Former three division world champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley isn’t in favor of welterweight contender Amir Khan fighting in the 2016 Olympics in Rios. Khan, 29, recently told the media that he’s interested in fighting in the summer Olympics this year for Pakistan.

This bit of news didn’t go well with a lot of boxing fans, especially fans from the UK, as Khan lives over there and he fought and he represented Britain in the 2004 Olympics. Khan won a silver medal in that Olympics.

A lot of boxers would be more than happy to have received a silver medal in the Olympics because that at least showed that Khan was the second best fighter in that competition.

Mosley talks about loss

By Dan Ambrose: For the many boxing fans that watched last night’s fight between interim WBA welterweight champion David Avanesyan (22-1-1, 11 KOs) and #3 WBA Sugar Shane Mosley (49-10-1, 41 KOs), it seemed like a pretty clear cut victory for the 27-year-old Avanesyan in their fight at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona.

However, it doesn’t look like the 44-year-old Mosley was in agreement with the decision given to Avanesyan by the judges. The scores were 114-113, 117-110, and 117-110. Mosley commented after the fight, saying that this outcome that happens when you let the fight go to the scorecards.

Mosley wants Cotto, Mayweather, Pacquiao or Marquez

1-mosley (2)

By Dan Ambrose: Shane Mosley (49-9-1, 9 KOs) will be fighting WBA interim welterweight champion David Avanesyan (21-1-1, 11 KOs) this Saturday night in an important match to determine an opponent for the winner of the June 25 fight between WBA welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman and Shawn Porter.

If victorious on Saturday against Avanesyan, Mosley, 44, says he won’t fight Porter if he defeats Thurman. Mosley and Porter are good friends and have worked with one another frequently in the past.

Mosley says he will fight Thurman if he gets past Porter because he’s never worked with Thurman before, However, the guys that Mosley says he wants after the Avanesyan fight is Miguel Cotto, Floyd Mayweather Jr, Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez.

WBA: Mosley-Avanesyan winner gets Thurman vs. Porter winner

mosley76

By Dan Ambrose: This Saturday’s fight between Shane Mosley (49-9-1 41 KOs) and interim WBA welterweight champion David Avanesyan (21-1-1, 11 KOs) will be facing the winner of the Keith Thurman vs. Shawn Porter fight, according to the World Boxing Association. That’s good for the Mosley- Avanesyan winner and potentially a good thing for the Porter vs. Thurman winner if they’re looking for a lesser threat.

That’s not a knock on Mosley and Avanesyan, but neither of them look like solid fighters compared to some of the other top guys in the division. It’s a perfect situation for the Thurman-Porter winner because they’ll wind up with an opponent that will be little more than a stay busy fight for them rather than someone that has the talent to defeat them.

Avanesyan favored to beat Mosley

mosley655

By Jeff Aranow: 44-year-old Shane Mosley (49-9-1, 41 KOs) is getting a title shot on Saturday night against WBA interim welterweight champion David Avanesyan (21-1-1, 11 KOs) at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona. Despite having a high ranking at #3 with the World Boxing Association, Mosley is the underdog in this fight. The oddsmakers feel the 27-year-old Avanesyan will have enough to hand Mosley another loss on his record.

It’s not all that surprising though because Mosley has done precious little to deserve his current ranking with the WBA since making his comeback. He’s beaten Patrick Lopez and Ricardo Mayora in his two-fight comeback. Those are not contenders in the sport, and it probably isn’t fair at all that the WBA has Mosley ranked ahead of fighters that are fighting at a higher level than Mosley like Errol Spence Jr and Sammy Vargas.

Shane Mosley vs. David Avanesyan this Saturday night

mosley76

By Jeff Aranow: #3 WBA Shane Mosley (49-9-1, 41 KOs) will riding his two-fight winning streak into his clash this Saturday night against interim WBA welterweight champion David Avanesyan (21-1-1, 11 KOs) in their fight at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona. The Mosley-Avanesyan fight will be televised on CBS Sports net. The start time is at 10:30 ET/7:30 PT.

This should be a tough fight for the 44-year-old Mosley, because he’s fighting one of the better welterweights in the division in 27-year-old Russian Avanesyan. Mosley hasn’t fought a fighter as good as Avanesyan since making his comeback last year. It’s going to be a tough test for Mosley because the last time he fought a good fighter in 2013, he was beaten by Anthony Mundine by a 7th round stoppage after his back froze up on him.
