Liakhovich: I’m going to take Deontay Wilder into the deep waters

yK1TrA_cAX-7iImb_MyjslHn3SAA2jiMuC1YWp0nZmc(Photo Credit: Tom Casino/SHOWTIME) By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBO heavyweight champion Sergei Liakhovich (25-5, 16 KO’s) expects to take the talented American heavyweight Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28 KO’s) into the deeper rounds tonight to try and expose his chin and possible stamina problems at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif.

If Liakhovich can withstand Deontay’s huge right hand bombs in the first three rounds, this fight could be an interesting one. But that’s going to be tough for Liakhovich to be able to handle getting hit by a monster puncher like Deontay without hitting the canvas face first at some point in the first three rounds.

Wilder vs Liakovich: Deontay takes another baby step

Oi7ZD8ERTGCa6iCOK0tpfg7ECnnjd4cBXz4TstnRxI0(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Thomas Cowan: Unbeaten American heavyweight Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28 KO’s) will be facing former WBO champion Siarhei Liakovich tonight in Indio, California. Wilder was going to fight Dereck Chisora in July, but that fell through because Wilder is not currently allowed to travel outside the States for legal reasons. Wilder said he would be facing a Russian heavyweight who was “much better than Chisora”. As it turned out, neither of these statements were true.

Liakovich is not from Russia, he’s from Belarus. Obviously, this doesn’t make him a bad opponent, I just wouldn’t let Deontay book his own flights if he’s flying to Europe anytime soon. The main disappointment though, is that Liakovich isn’t a good opponent.

Deontay Wilder could face Arreola-Mitchell winner if he beats Liakhovich

wilder52By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight contender Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28 KO’s) could be taking a significant jump up in competition in the near future if he gets past his opponent for tomorrow night Sergei Liakhovich in their fight this Friday night at the Fantasy Springs Resort and Casino in Indio, California.

According to RingTV, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer wants to match Deontay against the winner of the September 6th fight between former heavyweight title challenger Chris Arreola and Seth Mitchell. This would be a pretty big step up from Liakhovich, if Deontay were to fight Arreola.

Deontay Wilder ready to unleash the beast on Liakhovich tomorrow night

wilder33By Scott Gilfoid: America’s #1 heavyweight Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28 KO’s) will be fighting this Friday night on National television on Showtime against a very tough Sergei Liakhovich (25-5, 16 KO’s) in a fight scheduled for 10 rounds at the Fantasy Springs Casino, in Indio, California, USA.

Deontay is chomping at the bit to tear Liakhovich apart tomorrow night, and he can’t wait to get him in the ring to put on a show for the U.S fans watching the fight on Showtime.

Deontay Wilder looking for his 29th consecutive KO against Liakhovich

wilder991By Scott Gilfoid: American heavyweight Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28 KO’s) will be looking for his 29th straight knockout this Friday night against Sergei Liakhovich (25-5, 16 KO’s) on Showtime at the Fantasy Springs Casino, in Indio, California, USA.

The thing is, Deontay, 27, didn’t start his career looking to break the all-time record for consecutive knockouts, but because of his right hand power is so incredible, he’s kind of stumbled into a competition to break the record.

Deontay’s trainer Mark Breland said “Honestly, we did not anticipate the knockouts. In fact, we are trying to get him to box and move more, which he’s beginning to do. He’s got good power in his right hand and a great 1-2 punch. So we’re trying to develop his jab. But his power is just overwhelming right now.”

McCline: Deontay Wilder is the hardest puncher I’ve ever been in with

wilder7 - CopyBy Scott Gilfoid: 6’6” Jameel McCline (41-13-3, 24 KO’s) just spent time helping out unbeaten heavyweight talent Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28 KO’s) with sparring to help him get ready for his fight next Friday night against former WBO heavyweight champion Siarhei Liakhovich (25-5, 16 KO’s) on August 9th at the Fantasy Springs Casino, in Indio, California, USA.

McCline came away from the sparring session mighty impressed with Deontay’s power. Jameel say Deontay is the biggest puncher that he’s ever been in the ring with, and he’s been in with some ferocious punchers during his time.

It’s a huge compliment that Jameel sees the 6’7” Wilder as the biggest puncher he’s ever mixed it up with.

Deontay Wilder’s clash against Siarhei Liakhovich one week away

deontay32By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight contender Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28 KO’s) has just a week to go before his crucial bout against former WBO heavyweight champion Siarhei Liakhovich (25-5, 16 KO’s) on Friday, August 9th at the Fantasy Springs Casino, in Indio, California.

This is going to be a good scalp for Deontay, because Liakhovich has got a name and is well known among both hardcore and casual boxing fans.

What makes this fight so important for the 6’7” former 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Deontay is that if he looks really good in blasting through Liakhovich, it’ll give him a big push up in the heavyweight rankings.

Deontay Wilder now ranked #6 WBA, #7 WBO

deontay32By Scott Gilfoid: Undefeated heavyweight contender Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28 KO’s) has been moved up two spots in the World Boxing Association rankings to #6 WBA, and he’s also been moved up to #7 WBO. What this means of course is that the talented 6’7” Deontay is within striking distance of getting a heavyweight title shot against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (60-3, 51 KO’s).

It doesn’t mean that Wladimir will select him rather than some of the other guys ranked ahead of him likely below him, but it does show that Deontay is now getting close. If he can destroy former WBO heavyweight champion Siarhei Liakhovich (25-5, 16 KO’s) in their fight next month on August 9th at the Fantasy Springs Casino, in Indio, California, USA, we could see Deontay pushed up even higher in the rankings.
