Canelo said what to Mayweather?

canelo99By Robert Elmore: When Floyd Mayweather took on Oscar De La Hoya in 2007, Floyd had to concede everything in order to make the mega fight happen. The weight, gloves, ring size, and purse where all stacked in the Golden Boy’s favor. Mayweather didn’t complain one bit. He understood that in order to crossover and become pay per view king, he would have to put his pride aside to end up where he is today.

I would dare to say, Floyd was looking at years down the road, rather just right then. The gamble paid off. The fight became the highest grossing fight in boxing history in pay per view buys and in total revenue. Mayweather has gone on to break records and collect huge pay days since that time. But Oscar was the key to his success.

Trout fought the last five rounds with an injured ankle in Canelo fight

trout6565By Dan Ambrose: Little does anyone know that former WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout had to struggle in the last five rounds with a badly injured right ankle that he injured in the 7th round in his 12 round decision loss to WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez last Saturday night.

Shukree Shabazz from Team Trout told esnewsreporting.com “Nobody knew at the time. He [Trout] just gritted his teeth and went out there. If you look at the film you can see that he injured his ankle.”

Canelo meets with Golden Boy Promotions today to decide on next opponent

canelo7By Dan Ambrose: WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) stopped off at the Golden Boy Promotions headquarters today to meet with the head honchos Oscar De La Hoya and Richard Schaefer to try and decide on who Canelo will be facing next on September 14th this year.

Golden Boy will make a strong attempt to get 32-year-old Miguel Cotto to take the fight with Canelo, but it’s going to take a lot of money to get him to agree. Cotto has lost his last two fights and he may not be excited about being in the position of being used as an old lion for Canelo to tear up and build his name on.

Golovkin wants Canelo after Macklin fight

canelo66By Dan Ambrose: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (26-0, 23 KO’s) reportedly wants to face WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) after Golovkin gets finished dispatching contender Matthew Macklin (29-4, 20 KO’s) on June 29th in their fight at the MGM Grand at the Foxwoods Resort, in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

Golovkin, 31, says he’ll even come down to 154 lbs. to make the fight easier for the 22-year-old Canelo to make. Now the question is whether Canelo and his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions will agree to take the fight with Golovkin or if they’ll see this as too dangerous of a fight because Golovkin would likely rehydrate to the mid-160s and that wouldn’t give Canelo much of a weight advantage like he’d have if he fought Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Canelo should not expect Floyd to fight him!

IMG_2337(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Juan dela Cruz: After a dominating performance against Austin “No Doubt” Trout at Alamodome, San Antonio, Texas last April 21, 2013, which proved once and for all that he is ready to face the elite in his division, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is now eyeing Floyd Mayweather Jr for his next outing.

Unfortunately for Canelo, Floyd Jr is not keen on facing him mainly because Canelo is now a big threat to Floyd. This was already expected by boxing analysts and sports fans around the world as we know Floyd won’t face any threat to his “0” record and Canelo is one of them. After dealing Trout his first loss in his career, Canelo proved that he is no joke and that he is at the elite level. Floyd cannot put his contract in Showtime in jeopardy if he will face Alvarez at this time knowing it will be a sure loss for him.

De La Hoya: Canelo has Cotto and Mayweather as options for his next fight in September

IMG_2483(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Allan Fox: Oscar De La Hoya, the promoter for WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s), says that Miguel Cotto and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are the two leading candidates for Canelo’s next fight in September.

De Hoya and Golden Boy are waiting for the outcome of Mayweather’s fight next month against Robert Guerrero before they make a move to set up an opponent for Canelo in September.

De La Hoya said to elnuevodia.com “They are both options [Cotto and Mayweather], but Canelo Alvarez has said he wants to fight the best and the best currently is Floyd Mayweather. Then we have to see what will happen on May 4 because it is not guaranteed to win. Guerrero is complicated. If there is a day where you can lose your undefeated record, Floyd will be on May 4.”

How does Canelo expect Mayweather to fight him after pulling out of his May 4th fight card?

IMG_1793By Chris Williams: In a sign of total arrogance, WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) wants Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) to fight him later on this year on the Mexican holiday on September 14th. Canelo wants that fight badly because it would bring him huge money, and big time fame overnight.

It would be a fight that could turn Canelo into a pay-per-view star just as the Oscar De La Hoya vs. Mayweather fight turned Mayweather into a PPV star from that point forward. Unfortunately for Canelo, he made a major miscalculation recently by pulling out of Mayweather’s May 4th fight card after his attempts at pressuring him for a September 14th fight failed to work.

Canelo-Trout: One judge had Canelo up 8 rounds to none after 8

IMG_2071(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Dan Ambrose: In a sign of what former WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout was up against last Saturday night in his fight against WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, one judge, Stanley Christodoulou, had Canelo up 80-71 after eight rounds.

In other words, the judge hadn’t given Trout a single round. This judge had given Canelo every round of the fight. That’s pretty sad and it just showed what Trout was facing in terms of judging at the fight because anyone with two eyes could see that Trout had won at least seven of the first eight rounds of the fight easily against a tiring, red-faced Canelo.

Canelo: Mayweather is who I want next

IMG_1734(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Dan Ambrose: The 172 lb. WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) is still calling out 147 lb. welterweight Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) for him to face him on September 14th, which is the Mexican Independence Day. Mayweather fights at right at 147-150 for his fights, sow why should be fight a guy like Canelo who comes into his fights weighing over 170 lbs?

If Mayweather were to take that fight he’d be out-weighed by 25 lbs. Some of Canelo’s boxing fans think 25 pounds is nothing that Mayweather should take the fight anyway if he’s a courageous fighter.

Canelo said to the LA Times “How many times do I have to say it? Mayweather is who I want.”

Canelo was really helped with open scoring in Trout fight

IMG_2277(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Dan Ambrose; This may go over the heads of some boxing fans but here is what I believe: WBC junior middleweight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez likely would have been jabbed silly and easily beaten by WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout last Saturday night if not for the semi-open scoring at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

The World Boxing Association unknowingly gave the red-haired Canelo a huge advantage by having the open scoring system in place for this fight because it seems to favor guys with more power than the lighter punching guys. Canelo was out-punched in every round of the fight, and even in the round where he knocked Trout down in the 7th.
