Trout picks Canelo over Cotto

trout68(Photo credit: Goosen Tutor) By Dan Ambrose: Former WBA 154 pound champion Austin Trout (27-2, 14 KOs) is pulling for WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32 KOs) to defeat Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (44-1-1, 31 KOs) when/if they face each other next year on May 2nd on Cinco de Mayo.

Trout thinks he’d have a better chance of getting a rematch against the 34-year-old Cotto than he would against Canelo because of his previous win over Cotto in 2012. Canelo defeated Trout by a very close decision in 2013 in a fight that could have gone Trout’s way.

Which fight would be bigger: Mayweather vs. Pacquiao or Cotto vs. Canelo?

cotto552By Christopher Young: Which fight would be bigger – Floyd Mayweather Jr vs. Manny Pacquiao or Miguel Cotto vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez? If these two fights were on two separate networks scheduled for May 2nd and you could only choose one to buy, which fight would it be?

Both of these fights have a special nationwide interests for hardcore and casual boxing fans. Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight is a fight long overdue. It lost a lot of its luster, but it is still one of the biggest fights out there.

Not buying Oscar’s “All terms agreed” message

delahoya7777By Robert “Big Moe” Elmore: If anybody has studied my writings, I always champion for fighters to be more active in their careers. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez with the help of Oscar De La Hoya, seems to be taking that approach. But his approach comes with a twist. He wants to reclaim the Mexican holidays (Cinco De Mayo and Mexican Independence Day) away from the current occupant Floyd Mayweather. Oscar told fighthype.com that Canelo has agreed to all terms.

Ring Magazine online, my main source, tells an entirely different story. Let’s point out a few facts here. Fact one, Todd Du Boef and Gabriel Penagaricano (Cotto’s advisor) are leading negotiations for this fight. Not Arum. He was simply brought on to help move things along. Fact two; they are still negotiating and Cotto has not been informed yet of negotiations. Fact three; the venue has not been decided upon.

Canelo agrees to terms for Cotto fight on May 2nd on HBO

canelo035By Allan Fox: Mexican super star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (44-1-1, 31 KOs) has reportedly agreed to fight terms for a May 2nd mega-fight against WBC middleweight title holder Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32 KOs) on HBO pay-per-view from either Texas or Las Vegas, Nevada.

The 34-year-old Cotto still hasn’t worked out his side of the negotiations, but he’s expected to.

Canelo: I’ll be fighting on May 2nd and I won’t move from the date

canelo15By Dan Ambrose: A stubborn Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (44-1-1, 31 KOs) is insisting that he’ll be fighting on May 2nd on Cinco de Mayo in 2015 despite the fact that the arguably more popular WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr has already said that he intents on fighting on that date.

Canelo previously said that he was going to be fighting on the Mexican holidays in May and September regardless if Mayweather would be fighting on that date, because he wants to take those dates back.

Canelo confident he’ll be facing Cotto next May in catch-weight fight at 155

canelo44By Dan Ambrose: Former WBA/WBC 154 pound champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez says he believes he’ll have a deal made with WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto in the next couple of weeks for a catch-weight fight at 155 pounds for Cinco de Mayo holiday weekend next year in May.

Canelo (44-1-1, 31 KOs) says he wants to stay at junior middleweight even though he’s fighting for Cotto’s WBC middleweight belt. With Canelo struggling badly to stay at 154, you have to wonder why he’s persisting at staying at the weight. The obvious answer is the big fights that the 24-year-old Canelo can get against the likes of Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao.

2015 Boxing’s best year in decades?

floyd74By Wilmar Patino (Boxing’s Finest) Wrapping up the year of 2014 we had many ups and downs seeing a lot of mismatches along the way. This is Boxing and mismatches tend to be a part of the sport. Yet we have some great fights already confirmed and some stellar match ups that look more promising than ever for the year of 2015. There’s a lot of excitement surrounding the sport for the upcoming year and I’d like to have us all take a look and discuss the upcoming bouts. 2015 Has the potential to be the best year in boxing in decades for a few reasons lets revise that now.

Starting off with Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Manny Pacquiao because it has the most potential to bring the sport to the forefront once again and has the most significance in the sports history today. Of course this is a huge fight that will break records and generate unmatched revenue for a long time to come. The hype behind this bout is obvious and fans have been waiting for too long. I won’t say more than that because this topic has been exhausted by every media outlet and journalist for years. What I will say is that 2015 seems the most likely year the fight will take place if ever.

The Bullets, Part 1: Canelo, Cotto, PacMan, Golovkin & Much More

cotto88888By Kevin Pasquale: In my previous article for this site, I waxed poetic on the “who, why, and what if” on Money & Manny finally getting in the ring together. If that fight comes to pass, then there will be more to say at that time—maybe enough to write another article.

But moving in a different direction, let’s do this: A bunch of bullets & random thoughts on boxing. Easy to read, and better yet, we can look at a lot of stuff in a minimum of time. So, to begin:

· – Hate to start on a negative note, but wow, what is up with Jermain Taylor?

De La Hoya expects Cotto-Canelo to draw over 1 million PPV buys on HBO

canelo67By Dan Abrose: Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya is confident that the proposed May 2nd showdown between WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32 KOs) and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (44-1-1, 31 KOs) will bring in over 1 million pay-per-view buys on HBO, and give the two fighters the biggest paydays of their careers.

The Cotto-Canelo fight likely won’t do nearly as well as when the two fighters each fought Floyd Mayweather Jr . However, they’ll be getting a much bigger purse split in facing each other than they did against Mayweather, and that ultimately could mean a bigger payday for them if the fight does as well on HBO PPV as De La Hoya seems to think it will.

Al Haymons Master Plan: Is boxing’s ‘Cold War’ only just beginning?

By Robert Morris: With news that Al Haymon is taking his entourage of fighters off Premium Cable TV (Showtime, HBO, etc.) and onto Network TV (NBC) in early 2015, how do we see boxing panning out in the New Year?

Well, with Bernard Hopkins’ heroic performance against Sergey Kovalev last weekend and rumours of Canelo Alvarez potentially facing Miguel Cotto next year; it would seem the cracks are beginning to show in boxing’s proverbial ‘Cold War’ (Golden Boy/Showtime vs. Top Rank/HBO)!
