Goosen gives Mayweather a huge edge in Canelo fight

canelo766By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Joe Goosen is giving Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) a huge edge in his fight against 22-year-old Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) on September 14th in their Las Vegas based fight.

Goosen says he wasn’t impressed at all with what he saw of the red-haired Canelo in his fights against Austin Trout and Shane Mosley. Goosen was particularly disappointed in how Canelo looked in the Trout fight where Canelo fought passively for much of the fight after getting nailed with a hard body shot from Trout in the 5th round.

Trout vs. Lara on Mayweather-Canelo undercard on 9/14

lara5By Dan Ambrose: Erislandy Lara (18-1-2, 12 KO’s) vs. Austin Trout (26-1, 14 KO’s) is being talked about for the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez card on September 14th. It’s still not a done deal, but it’s a possibility as either the co-feature or the third fight below the main event if Golden Boy Promotions is able is able to get the Danny Garcia vs. Lucas Matthysse on the card.

If they can get that fight, and that’s a big if, that fight will be the co-feature bout. The Trout-Lara fight is a good one, but not nearly as good as the Garcia-Matthysse bout.

Trout should arguably be still undefeated after losing to Canelo by a 12 round unanimous decision last April. If you Canelo’s fans, they think Trout lost the fight, but if you ask a lot of people without a preference about the fight, a lot of them are saying that Trout won the fight.

Khan: Canelo could fall short of beating Mayweather

canelo454452By Dan Ambrose: Former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan thinks WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) will likely lose to Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) in their fight on September 14th.

Khan doesn’t say why, but he does feel he’s got the skills to give Floyd a lot of problems with his hand speed and ability to put pressure on the 36-year-old Mayweather. It could be that Khan feels that the 22-year-old Canelo is lacking in those areas.

The lion hunter: A look at Floyd Mayweather Jr’s opponent selection

floyd1111By Dallas Orysiuk Floyd Mayweather Jr. is without a doubt the number one fighter in the world. Floyd “Money” Mayweather is 44-0 (26 KOs) and has a stellar resume. There is no questioning his skills as he is one of the best fighters to ever step into the ring. Apart from ring craft, Mayweather displays excellent business skill. He is a businessman and promoter.

He plays the role of villain and he plays this role well. It is part of his persona and part of the reason he attains such financial success.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is also a hunter… a hunter of young hungry lions. This is part of “Moneys” business plan. Mayweather does an excellent job of waiting, scoping, and setting his sights on young hungry fighters that are surrounded in hype. This is part of the reason his PPV numbers are so high.

Canelo starting training camp at 165 lbs for Mayweather fight

can443433123513By Dan Ambrose: WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) may end up under 170+ pounds for his September 14th fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s). Canelo’s trainer Chepo Reynoso is reportedly saying that Canelo has started his training camp at Big Bear at 165 lbs, according to Boxing Roundup.

However, this doesn’t mean that Canelo will drop below 165, because he looked to be solid muscle during the recent 11 city press tour with Mayweather Jr. How is Canelo going to whittle off all that super middleweight muscle when he doesn’t have fat stores on his body.

Who are the most technically gifted boxers in the sport?

ward3432First off, I am going to list down the achievements of each of these amazing boxers to help support my conclusion as to who deserves to be King starting with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has defeated many of the recent greats of boxing including – Juan Manuel Marquez, Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley, Ricky Hatton, Oscar De Le Hoya, and many other big names. It is because of this you have to give him a lot of credit. He has always possessed a unique defense, which I believe has permanently revolutionized the art of boxing. In addition to this, he has pinpoint accuracy and very intelligent ring-smarts.  I believe he could face basically any boxer of today and win unanimously. However, I do believe some of the above boxers I have mentioned could possibly come out on top.

Does Canelo lack the body type to beat Mayweather?

Canelo poses with fans(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: If you look at Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s body shape, it doesn’t look like the body of a fighter that is capable of beating a super star like Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s). Canelo has more of a wrestler’s type of a body with his short limbs and heavy muscles that prevent fast movements.

Canelo looks like a little tank with red hair and it’s impossible to picture him beating an athlete with blazing fast hand and foot speed like Mayweather Jr. Canelo looks more like a cross between Juan Manuel Marquez, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Arthur Abraham with his body shape, movement and skills.

Mayweather-Canelo winner will get WBC 24K Gold World Championship strap

can443433123By Dan Ambrose: The WBC has decided to create a showy WBC 24K Gold World championship belt to give to the winner of the September 14th fight between WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) and Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s), according to fightsaga.com.

There’s no word if additional sanctioning fees will be needed to cover the cost of the showy Gold strap. I would hope to think this is just something the WBC has thrown in to set their strap apart from the WBA title that Canelo still has in his possession.

Canelo easy work for Mayweather!

floyd5654By Tom Drury: On September 14th, Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in the hotly anticipated “Blockbuster” fight of the decade. Floyd Mayweather the pound for pound best and boxing’s biggest draw has dominated the sport for 17 years, outclassing and outsmarting all comers (44) in total, all coming up short on there quest to break the “Money Code”.

Saul Alvarez, the young Mexican fighter and superstar in the making is next in line to face off against the pound for pound best, unfortunately for Alvarez. I among others feel this fight has come too soon. Alvarez without question has earned his shot at the big time with a show of maturity, skills and smarts in his most recent victory over the talented Austin “No Doubt” Trout.
