Berto: Khan has what it takes to win against Canelo

berto8(Photo credit: Premier Boxing Champions) By Dan Ambrose: Andre Berto is picking Amir “King” Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) to defeat WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) in their fight on May 7.

The two fighters have less than two weeks to go for their big fight on HBO PPV, and it’s going to be interesting to see which of these two will come out on top. Canelo is the clear favorite in this fight, but that doesn’t mean a whole lot because Canelo was made to look silly by Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2013, and Canelo didn’t look any better against the only fighter with reasonably fast hands that he’s faced since then in Erislandy Lara.

Thurman: Mayweather told Canelo to stay away from Golovkin

Image: Thurman: Mayweather told Canelo to stay away from GolovkinBy Dan Ambrose: WBA World welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman says that Floyd Mayweather Jr. has advised the 25-year-old WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) to stay away from fighting unbeaten IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs).

Canelo is behind the eight ball right now, given that he’s the WBC 160lb champion and the World Boxing Council has mandated that he fight Golovkin after Canelo’s next fight against Amir Khan on May 7 next month.

Canelo vs. Khan: The Bull and The Matador?

1-KhanPrepares4Canelo_Hoganphotos14By Rob Blakeman: So, one of these men is exaggerated and we are about to discover which. Amir Khan against Mexican Champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez for the World Middleweight Title is set for May the 7th and it makes for an intriguing matchup. The British man Khan still calls himself ‘King’ despite three losses, (two by knockout) and all three by second and third tier fighters at best.

True, he has beaten some good guys too-but no one great or in their prime. He has huge ego and at times seems more concerned with money and courting celebrity than being a great fighter. Why else would he take this huge weight disadvantaged gamble? He has also had long periods of inactivity.

Arum: Golovkin will massacre Canelo

Image: Arum: Golovkin will massacre CaneloBy Dan Ambrose: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum thinks WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s promoters at Golden Boy Promotions should either put off a fight between Canelo and unbeaten IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) until Golovkin gets old or until someone else comes along and eventually beats the Kazakhstan star.

Arum says that if the 25-year-old Canelo is put in the ring right now with Golovkin, he’ll be totally massacred and wind up getting knocked out. Arum points out that Canelo losing to boxing great Floyd Mayweather Jr. on points is one thing, but losing to Golovkin by a knockout would be a much different thing.

What a great Golovkin must do

1-Golovkin_Wade_AY1J4910By Yannis Mihanos: Last Saturday night IBF/IBO/WA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) made easy work of little known Dominic Wade (19-1, 12 KOs) in stopping him in the 2nd at the Forum in Inglewood, California. Golovkin’s performance last weekend performance proved for one more time that he is one gear ahead of his competitors in the middleweight division.

Golovkin now stays there like a lone wolf waiting to devour his next opponent.

Canelo says Pacquiao fight can happen after Amir Khan

canelo6463By Dan Ambroe: WBC middleweight champion Saul Canelo Alvarez says a fight against Manny Pacquiao can take place later this year. He says it’s a rumor right now, but a fight that could still take place. A fight against Pacquiao would get Canelo off the hook for having to fight his WBC mandatory challenger Gennady GGG Golovkin in late 2016.

If Canelo’s wily promoter Oscar De La Hoya can set him up with a fight against Pacquiao, the fans would take the heat off of Canelo for the Golovkin fight and rally around him for a much bigger fight against the 37-year-old Pacquiao. That would be a huge fight. Canelo would easily get the biggest payday of his career even if the fight doesn’t bring in the 2.2 million PPV buys that his fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. brought in back in 2013.

De La Hoya expects Canelo-Khan to bring in twice the numbers Canelo-Cotto did

1-CaneloPrepares4Khan_Hoganphotos5By Jeff Aranow: If Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya’s predictions come true, the May 7 fight between WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Amir Khan will be bringing in twice the pay-per-view numbers on HBO than last November’s fight between Canelo and Miguel Cotto.

Canelo-Cotto brought in 900,000 PPV buys on HBO, which were very good numbers and made Golden Boy happy.

Canelo vs. Khan: Power vs. Speed – When two collide

1-CaneloPrepares4Khan_Hoganphotos11By Daniel Arissol: On May 7th in the T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas, Nevada the boxing world casts its eyes over the WBC middleweight showdown between the champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and challenger Amir ‘King’ Khan. When this match up was first announced eyebrows were raised at the prospect of a welterweight fighter moving up two weight divisions to take on one of the most explosive and dominant middleweights of the current era.

Canelo himself has moved up the weights but now, as an established middleweight, holds the world boxing council’s prestigious green strap and looks determined to cement his place as a superstar of the sport.

Sanchez: Canelo is the only one De La Hoya has left

1-CaneloPrepares4Khan_HoganphotosBy Allan Fox: Last October, WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin demolished Golden Boy Promotions fighter David Lemieux in eight easy rounds at Madison Square Garden in New York. At the time, Lemieux was picking up a lot of fans with his exciting style of fighting. He was a big draw in Canada, and he had many followers at the time.

The loss of Lemieux left Golden Boy only Saul “Canelo” Alvarez as a big money fighter in their stable. Abel Sanchez, the trainer for Golovkin, thinks Golden Boy doesn’t want to risk their last remaining money fighter Canelo Alvarez against Golovkin because if he loses the fight, then they won’t have anyone else in their stable.

Canelo to Golovkin “At 25 I’ve faced the best in the world. Look who he just faced!”

CaneloPrepares4Khan_Hoganphotos1By Dan Ambrose: WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) came out firing both barrels at IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) in response to his comments about now wanting to give up weight by draining down to fight Canelo at a catch-weight of 155lbs in order to fight for his WBC 160lb title.

Canelo replied back on Monday in telling the media that he doesn’t care what Golovkin says because while he’s facing guys like Dominic Wade, he’s already fought many world champions and he’s still only 25-years-old.
