Santos Saul Álvarez Barragán, better known as Canelo, which translates to ‘cinnamon’ for his fiery red hair, has spiced up the boxing scene since his debut. Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, in 1990, this pugilist has clinched world championships across four weight divisions, making him a staple in the Hall of Fame pantry. Canelo unified titles in three divisions and claimed lineal championships in two, notably overpowering Miguel Cotto in 2015 for the WBC, Ring, and lineal middleweight crowns. Outside the ring, Canelo’s life is just as sweet, sharing it with his two kids, Emily Cinnamon Alvarez and Mía Ener Álvarez, and his wife, Fernanda Gómez, since 2021. According to Forbes, Canelo is worth at least $275 million!

The boxing fans are really looking forward to that fight. Marquez thinks that Canelo can beat Golovkin if he fights an intelligent fight, prepares well, uses his speed, and uses his counter punching.
By Allan Fox: K2 promoter Tom Loeffler says he’s still in contact with Saul Canelo Alvarez’s promoters at Golden Boy, but it doesn’t sound like he’s made any progress in the negotiations. Loeffler he’s still willing to do anything to get the Canelo-Golovkin fight made. He says that Golovkin can’t base his career on a fight that hasn’t been agreed to against Canelo. Loeffler might need to move on at this point and make the unification match between GGG and WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders, because it does not sound like the Canelo fight is going to happen at this point.

Chavez Jr. says he weighs 178 pounds now. This is just 13 ½ pounds over the 164 ½ lb. catch-weight limit for the weigh-in on May 5.
By Dan Ambrose: Former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (37-3, 33 KOs( could put himself in position to fight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on September 16 if he beats Marcos Reyes on May 6 on the undercard of the Canelo vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. card on HBO pay-per-view. Lemieux would be the Plan-B for Canelo if a fight against Gennady “GGG” Golovkin doesn’t get made. Lemieux isn’t the only option that Golden Boy has for Canelo to fight in September besides GGG. There’s also a very real possibility of a rematch against Chavez Jr.

What could happen though is Loeffler could up with no fight at all if Golden Boy Promotions decides they’re really ready to put their golden goose Canelo in with Golovkin yet.

Saunders says Loeffler was supposed to send out a contract. He has a message that supposedly came from Loeffler saying he would send the contract over 2 weeks ago. Saunders is now starting to sound and look desperate for the fight, and he’s going to move on.

He’s still interested in putting a unification fight together between the two of them. However, Loeffler is still in negotiations with Golden Boy Promotions President Eric Gomez for a big mega-fight against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez for September. Loeffler says he should know in the next 2 weeks whether that fight will happen in September or not.
By Allan Fox: If Gennady Golovkin can beat Saul Canelo Alvarez, a fight against Andre Ward at 168 is a fight that his promoter Tom Loeffler says he would be interested in doing. Golovkin would move up to super middleweight to make the fight happen. Loeffler says Ward has to get past Sergey Kovalev in their rematch and then move down in weight to 168. Golovkin isn’t going to move up to 175 to accommodate Ward, and he likely won’t agree to a catch-weight at 172 either.

Loeffler is in negotiations with Golden Boy, and that hasn’t come up in their discussions. Golden Boy CEO Oscar De La Hoya recently said that Golovkin vs. Saunders would jeopardize the Canelo-Golovkin fight for September because of the potential for injury for Golovkin, and the delay it could cause the promotion for the fight.

Sounds like a threat to Golovkin.
