By Chris Williams: In a perfect example of a self defeating move, former WBO/WBC light flyweight champion Rodel Mayol (30-5-2, 22 Ko’s) refused to fight 23-year-old WBA World flyweight champion Hernan “Tyson” Marquez (32-2, 25 KO’s) after Marquez initially weighed in two pounds over the limit during Friday’s weigh-in for their fight tonight in Sonora, Mexico.

Nino, 34, previously fought to a 3 round technical draw with the 28-year-old Mayol in February, despite appearing to knock Rodel out in the 3rd round after clocking him with a beautiful left hand to the head. Calderon-Mayol II on September 12th

By Jason Kim: WBO light flyweight champion Ivan Calderon (32-0-1, 6 KO’s) will be making his 5th defense of his World Boxing Organization title on September 12th against the hard hitting Rodel Mayol (25-3-1, 19 KO’s) at the Coliseo Jose Miguel Agrelot, in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico. The two fighters met in a fight in June which ended in a 6th round technical draw after Calderon, 34, was cut on his forehead after a clash of heads with Mayol in the 4th round.

By Dave Lahr: World Boxing Organization light flyweight champion Ivan Calderon (32-0-1, 6 KO’s) will be fighting a rematch with Rodel Mayol (25-3-1, 19 KO’s) on September 12th, in San Juan, Peurto Rico. Calderon, 34, and Mayol fought to a six round technical draw earlier this year in June. The bout was stopped in the 6th because of a large cut on the forehead of Calderon which opened up a round earlier in the 5th after the two fighters clashed heads.
