Cleverly: I can’t wait for Fonfara fight

1-IMG_5526By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly (29-2, 15 KOs) says he can’t wait to get inside the ring to face the highly ranked Andrzej Fonfara (27-3, 16 KOs) in their fight this Friday night on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike from the UIC Pavilion, in Chicago, Illinois.

This is the real proving ground for the #10 WBC Cleverly, because he’s lost 2 out of his last 4 fights, and he hasn’t beaten a decent contender in the 175lb division since his win over Tony Bellew four years ago. All of Cleverly’s wins since then have come against these fighters: Tommy Karpency, Robin Krasniqi, Shawn Hawk, Shawn Corbin, Alejandro Emilio Valori and Tomas Man.

Cleverly yapping about beating Fonfara

cleverly55 By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly (29-2, 15 KOs) believes that he’s going to be the one who winds up having his hand raised at the end of his fight against #2 WBA, #3 WBC Andrzej Fonfara (27-3, 16 KOs) this Friday night in their fight on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike TV from the UIC Pavilion, in Chicago, Illinois.

Cleverly, 28, will be entering the lion’s den by going into Fonfara’s new home for boxing in Chicago in this fight. There won’t be a huge crowd of Cleverly supporters singing football songs all night long, and cheering every missed punch that he throws.

Cleverly takes big risk against Fonfara

fonfara1By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly (29-2, 15 KOs) has a risky fight ahead of him in just one week on October 16th when he takes on #2 WBA, #3 WBC Andrzej Fonfara (27-3, 16 KOs) on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike from the UIC Pavilion, in Chicago, Illinois.

Cleverly could have been fighting for a world title right now against WBA World light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer instead of having to go through the big punching 27-year-old Fonfara, but Cleverly decided he wanted to test himself against a really tough opponent before he fought for a world title.

Fonfara not overlooking Cleverly

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr vs Andrzej FonfaraBy Scott Gilfoid: WBC International light heavyweight champion Andrzej Fonfara (27-3, 16 KOs) isn’t overlooking his title defense against #12 WBC Nathan Cleverly (29-2, 15 KOs) in their fight next month on October 16th on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike TV from the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois.

Fonfara, 27, sees the 28-year-old former WBO light heavyweight champion Cleverly as a better fighter than former WBC 160lb champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., who Fonfara stopped in the 10th round last April in a fight in which Chavez Jr. quit on his stool after the 9th round after getting dropped in that round.

Cleverly sees Fonfara fight as platform to prove he’s ready for a world title

cleverly6777By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly (29-2, 15 KOs) will be returning to the 175lb in failure when he faces #2 WBC, #3 WBA, #5 WBO, #6 IBF Andrzej Fonfara (27-3, 16 KOs) in a 12 round fight on October 16th at the UIC Pavilion, in Chicago, Illinois. Cleverly, 28, attempted to make a go of it at cruiserweight, but after facing a few weak cruiserweights, he was beaten by fringe contender Tony Bellew by a close 12 round decision last November.

Cleverly saw the writing on the wall after that fight and did the wise thing in moving back down to light heavyweight. Bellew should have seen the writing on the wall as well from that fight, because he clearly doesn’t belong at cruiserweight either.

Nathan Cleverly to fight Andrzej Fonfara on October 16th

cleverly677By Scott Gilfoid: Numerous news sources are reporting that 28-year-old former WBO 175lb champion Nathan Cleverly (29-2, 15 KOs) will be back inside the ring two months from now on October 16th in Chicago, Illinois. The fight is yet to be announced officially, so you have to take this with a grain of salt.

Cleverly wants the bout because he feels it will show the boxing world that he’s for real. The reality is if Cleverly can’t beat a fighter like Fonfara, then he needs to either retire or downsize his ambitions, because there are better fighters at 175 than Fonfara.

Cleverly ready for Fonfara fight in October in U.S

Image: Cleverly ready for Fonfara fight in October in U.S(Photo credit: Scott Heavey) By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly (29-2, 15 KOs) will be putting his credibility on the line when he meets up with the hard hitting Polish light heavyweight slugger Andrzej Fonara (27-3, 16, 16 KOs) in October in a fight that will be taking place in the United States on Premier Boxing Champions on one of the free television networks.

Cleverly turned down a title shot against WBA “regular” light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer. Cleverly decided on taking the better paying fight against Fonfara. I suspect Cleverly will soon regret his decision when he gets inside the ring with the hard hitting Fonfara.

Fonfara wants to KO Cleverly

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr vs Andrzej Fonfara*Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Scott Gilfoid:
The talented #2 WBC, #3 WBA light heavyweight contender Andrzej Fonfara (27-3, 16 KOs) sees no reason why he can’t totally obliterated former WBO 175 pound champion Nathan Cleverly (29-2, 15 KOs) when the two of them face each other in three to four months from now in the fall.

Fonfara notes that Sergey Kovalev totally smashed Cleverly when they fought each other in the summer of 2013, so he doesn’t see why he can’t do the exact same thing when he battles the #11 WBA ranked Cleverly.

Cleverly making a mistake in facing Fonfara

cleverly777By Scott Gilfoid: This October, former WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly (29-2, 15 KOs) will be taking a major risk in facing #2 WBC, #3 WBA, #4 WBO, #6 IBF light heavyweight contender Andrzej Fonfara (27-3, 16 KOs) in a fight that still doesn’t have an exact date and venue.

It’s still unclear why Cleverly’s promoter Eddie Hearn has decided to match Cleverly up with such a dangerous opponent like this. Is he throwing #11 WBC Cleverly to the wolves or does he actually believe that Cleverly is good enough to beat Fonfara?
