Froch decisions Kessler in close fight

froch2000By Scott Gilfoid: In a fight that could have gone either way, IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (31-2, 22 KO’s) defeated WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-3, 35 KO’s) by a close 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night at the O2 Arena, in London, UK. The final judges’ scores were 118-110, 116-112 and 115-113.

You can ignore the judge that scored the fight 118-110 for Froch because that score is no indication of how the fight was fought. Froch barely won the fight and spent pretty much the entire missing over and over and over again with his shots. I haven’t seen Froch miss this much since he fought Andre Dirrell in 2009. It was downright embarrassing to see Froch whiffing with his punches like a blind man.

Froch is out of excuses tonight

froch1000By Scott Gilfoid: We’ve heard IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch’s excuses for why he lost to Mikkel Kessler three years ago and for why he got beaten by Andre Ward in 2011, and some of Froch’s loyal fans have bought into his excuses.

Well, tonight at the O2 Arena in London, England there can be no more excuses for Froch. If he loses tonight, he can’t fall back on the old ‘I lost my edge because my travel to the site was delayed’ or ‘I lost my concentration because I was away from home around Christmas.’

Froch vs Kessler II: There Will Be Blood

kessler#800By Mohummad Humza Elahi: Twitter – @MHE_1985 – Tonight, I’ll be sitting in the cheap seats at a packed O2 Arena in London to witness the biggest fight (on these shores) of the year so far. Carl “The Cobra” Froch (30-2-22 KO’s) the hometown favourite will square off against “The Viking Warrior” Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 32 KO’s0).

There’s anticipation of a real classic in the making; I’ve been following the opinions out there and it seems that the majority are going for Froch in a home decision win whereas the rest think Kessler will take the victory and if that happens, I can imagine his hand being raised in a sea of boos (and probably booze) from the crowd. Atmospheres here (and in other parts of Europe) can be very intimidating for boxers not used to fighting on the road, however, this isn’t a factor for Kessler.

Prediction: Kessler beats Froch by split decision

Hopkins: Froch will easily beat Kessler

By Scott Gilfoid: Bernard Hopkins sees tomorrow night’s match-up between IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) and WBA champion Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) as being a pretty one-sided affair with Froch dominating Kessler and winning by a fairly lopsided decision. Hopkins doesn’t think Kessler has improved in the last three years, and he sees Froch as being able to dominate.

Froch vs. Kessler: A neutral perspective

froch111Who will win in this highly anticipated bout between Carl “The Cobra” Froch and Mikkel “Viking warrior” Kessler this Saturday night at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Personally I see Froch winning this fight by a unanimous decision, in competitive and controversial decision similar to the first fight, but in “the Cobra’s” favour. My reasons for predicting this are as follows:

Kessler’s record follows the pattern of many German champions, winning or defending his title by fighting on home soil, both losses have come when fighting away from home, outclassed by both ward and Joe Calzaghe, basically he’s never won out of Denmark or Germany.

Kessler producing more knockouts with new fighting style

kessler#300By Scott Gilfoid: Since WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) last fought IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) in 2010, he’s changed his fighting style and it’s lead to him having much more power than he had in the past.

Kessler’s left hook and right hand are more formidable weapons now than they were the last time he fought Froch. Kessler expects that style to work well on Froch tomorrow night at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Kessler said to Sky Sports “I feel like I’ve been working on my technical boxing skills very much for the last two years and that’s why I have stopped my opponents so fast and I feel good this way. I feel l have a new style but better. I think it’s better [more effective] for Carl now.”

The first time these guys locked horns, the Great Dane took a unanimous points win against Froch on his home soil in an enthralling battle, and now Kessler – looking in the mood to do business, is promising come Saturday night he will go 2-0 up against the man many Boxing scribes feel is the favourite.

“If I lose, I’m going to quit, ” Kessler told Sky Sports News. “If I lose fair and square I am out of here.”
