By Dan Ambrose: Number #1 ranked WBO welterweight contender Mike Jones (25-0, 19 KO’s) put on a punching display in showing why he’s ranked so highly in the welterweight division on Saturday night in stopping journeyman fighter Raul Munoz (22-14-1, 16 KO’s) in the 2nd round of a scheduled 10 round bout at the South Philly Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvanian.
Mike Jones
Mike Jones a possibility for Pacquiao in 2012, says Arum
By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is considering unbeaten welterweight contender Mike Jones (24-0, 18 KO’s) as one of the possible opponents for Manny Pacquiao in 2012. Jones, 28, fights for the same promotional company as Pacquiao and this would be another in house fight for Pacquiao along the lines of his mismatches against other Top Rank foes Joshua Clottey, Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito. They were all mismatches going into the fights, but a bout against Jones would be downright horrible.
Donaire vs. Moreno and Mike Jones vs. Antonin Decarie on 5/28
By Chris Williams: WBC/WBO bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (26-1, 18 KO’s) will be returning to the ring for a unification bout against WBA bantamweight champion Anselmo Moreno on May 28th. Also on the card will be unbeaten welterweight contender Mike Jones (24-0, 18 KO’s) against Canadian contender Antonin Decarie (25-1, 7 KO’s). The Moreno-Donaire fight seems hardly worth it because Moreno is totally unknown in the United States and winning another useless alphabet title doesn’t really give Donaire the shot in the arm that his people think it will be.
Mike Jones defeats Soto-Karass, but shows inability to defend a left hook
By Jason Kim: Unbeaten welterweight contender Mike Jones (24-0, 18 KO’s) got an important last Saturday night in defeating fringe welterweight contender Jesus Soto-Karass (24-6-3, 16 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada. Instead of trying to slug it with Soto-Karass like he did last time they fought in November 2010, the 27-year-old Jones, ranked #2 WBA, #3 IBF, #4 WBC, opted to move, box and throw pot shot power shots. It worked, as Jones was able to win a convincing decision by the scores of 115-113, 116-112 and 117-111.
Arum wants to match Mike Jones against Berto, but will have to settle for less
By Dan Ambrose: Bob Arum is frustrated after watching his unbeaten welterweight contender Mike Jones (24-0, 18 KO’s) defeat Jesus Soto-Karass (24-6-3, 18 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jones dominated Soto-Karass, cutting him up and winning by the scores of 115-113, 116-112 and 117-111.
Arum asks why Berto is facing Ortiz rather than Mike Jones vs. Jesus Soto Karass winner
By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum was reportedly fuming at Thursday’s news conference for the Fernando Montiel vs. Nonito Donaire fight for Saturday, complaining long and hard about the fact that WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (27-0, 21 KO’s) is being matched up against light welterweight Victor Ortiz (28-2-2, 22 KO’s) instead the winner of Saturday night’s fight between unbeaten welterweight contender Mike Jones and Jesus Soto-Karass.
Soto-Karass says he’s going to knock Mike Jones out on Saturday
By Dan Ambrose: The last Jesus Soto-Karass (24-5-3, 16 KO’s) fought unbeaten welterweight contender Mike Jones (23-0, 18 KO’s), Soto-Karass lost a questionable 10 round majority decision last year in November. On tomorrow night, the 28-year-old Soto-Karass intends on taking the judges out of the fight by knocking Jones out at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Mike Jones vs. Jesus Soto Karass this Saturday
By Jim Dower: Unbeaten welterweight contender Mike Jones (23-0, 18 KO’s) and Jesus Soto Karass (24-5-3, 16 KO’s) will be fighting a rematch this Saturday night on the undercard of the Fernando Montiel vs. Nonito Donaire fight at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada. Jones and Karass fought last year on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito bout on November 13th at the Cowboy’s Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and the 27-year-old Jones won a controversial 10 round majority decision.
Jones vs. Soto-Karass: Mike being groomed to be possible opponent for Berto
By Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten welterweight contender Mike Jones (23-0, 18 KO’s) was supposed to be someone that could eventually compete with the top welterweights in the division and soon become one of the welterweight champions. However, the 27-year-old Jones was badly exposed in a fight with fringe welterweight contender Jesus Soto-Karass last November, winning by a controversial 10 round majority decision but looking absolutely horrible after gassing out early in the fight.
Mike Jones vs. Jesus Soto-Karass: Will Jones stink up the joint again?
By Dan Ambrose: Number #2 ranked WBO welterweight contender Mike Jones (23-0, 18 KO’s) will get a second shot at #15 ranked Jesus Soto-Karass (24-5-3, 16 KO’s) in a 12 round bout on February 19th on the undercard of the Fernando Montiel vs. Nonito Donaire bout at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The last time Jones, 27, and Soto-Karass, 28, fought, Jones got a questionable 10 round majority decision in November 2010. It’s hard to see how Jones deserved to get the win because he punched himself out after the first two rounds and was in vapor luck for the final eight rounds.
