Schaefer says Khan had to fight Maidana or else he would have been stripped of his title by the WBA

Image: Schaefer says Khan had to fight Maidana or else he would have been stripped of his title by the WBABy William Mackay: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer explains the real reason why World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) decided to fight WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s) in an interview with Steve Bunce in London, saying “There was no real choice with taking this fight, as he [speaking about Maidana] is the mandatory [for Amir Khan]. It was either fight him or be stripped of the belt. And what great champion wants to lose his belt outside of the ring by being stripped.” This is interesting, because Khan has been saying that he took on the Maidana fight because he wants to quiet his critics.

Khan says he’s going to “Unify the light welterweight titles” after the Maidana fight

Image: Khan says he’s going to “Unify the light welterweight titles” after the Maidana fightBy William Mackay: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) has sprouted some big ideas about his future in the light welterweight division, because he’s already talking about unifying the light welterweight titles, when he hasn’t even beaten his next opponent WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s) yet. Khan, 23, faces the knockout artist Maidana on December 11th at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. In an article at thesun.co.uk, Khan says “I am taking a big risk with this fight [Maidana] but I am going to grab the opportunity with both hands and unify the light welterweight titles.” I’d like to see that happen, but frankly I tend to see Khan getting blasted out in two or three rounds by Maidana on 12/11.

However, Khan is going to have to settle for fighting the knockout artist Maidana in the neutral city of Las Vegas, Nevada, on December 11th.

At the time that Kirkland was incarcerated last year, Kirkland was considered by many boxing experts as a future world champion.

Ortiz may be better than Alexander, Khan, Bradley and Maidana

Image: Ortiz may be better than Alexander, Khan, Bradley and MaidanaBy Jason Kim: Victor Ortiz (28-2-1, 22 KO’s) could very well be the best light welterweight in the division after destroying Vivian Harrison (29-5-1, 19 KO’s) in three rounds last Saturday night on the undercard of the Shane Mosley vs. Sergio Mora bout at the Staples Center, in Los Angeles, California. Ortiz, 23, knocked Harris down four times in the fight before it was stopped by referee Raul Caiz Sr. at 0:45 of the 3rd round.

Don’t be surprised when Khan KO’s Maidana

Image: Don’t be surprised when Khan KO’s MaidanaBy Mark Hepplestall: World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight champion Amir Khan 23(17)-1(1)-0 is now scheduled to fight Marcos Maidana in a battle the public want to see, however there is a large amount of pessimism over khans chances to win. People keep saying how Khan is going to get KO’d because of his weak chin and Maidana’s 90% KO ratio, however I just see Maidana in well over his head in this fight.

Khan says he gave up home advantage to fight Maidana in the U.S

Image: Khan says he gave up home advantage to fight Maidana in the U.SBy Scott Gilfoid: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) will finally be fighting WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s) after a year of fighting other opponents. Khan, 23, will be fighting Maidana on December 11th, at the Mandalay Bay Resort, in Las Vegas, Nevada. In an article at Thesun.co.uk, “I wanted to fight Maidana so badly I have given up my home advantage, even though I am the champion and not him. My team tried very hard to get this fight to the UK, but because of Maidana’s demands, the figures just wouldn’t add up.” That’s funny, I thought they ended up fighting Maidana in Las Vegas because they didn’t want to pay Maidana extra to fight him in the UK.

Maidana is beatable, but Khan might not have the chin to do it

Image: Maidana is beatable, but Khan might not have the chin to do itBy Jason Kim: In some ways, the December 11th match-up between World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) and WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s) reminds me of the classic fight between Muhammad Ali and a young and powerful George Foreman. In that fight, which took place in 1974, Ali was able to take Foreman’s biggest shots and wear him down and stop him in the 8th round. However, Ali was able to take a number of huge shots from Foreman in that fight without going down like many of Foreman’s previous opponents had done when hit hard by him.

Khan: “Maidana wants to stop me from having my legacy”

Image: Khan: "Maidana wants to stop me from having my legacy"By Scott Gilfoid: I got a kick out of reading a recent quote by WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) upon the news that he had signed to fight World Boxing Association light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s) on December 11th at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Khan, 23, Had this to say in an article by Dan Rafael of ESPN: “I want this fight and the fans want to see this fight. It’s two explosive styles meeting up. It’s the explosive puncher [referring to Maidana] against the quick and explosive boxer. They say Maidana has a style to beat a boxer, so let’s see how good he is. Maidana wants to stop me from having my legacy, but that is not going to happen. But let him try.”
