By Sean McDaniel: Trainer Freddie Roach doesn’t sound overjoyed with the prospect of his fighter World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan (22-1, 16 KO’s) fighting interim WBA champion Marcos Maidana (27-1, 26 KO’s), saying in an article at The Sun, “It’s a business and it’s about the right fights at the right time. There are some good fights out there for Amir.” That’s sounding like Roach is considering other options for Khan rather than a fight with Maidana.

Khan talks Maidana, Mayweather, Malignaggi, More!
By Scott Gilfoid: In an interview at East Side Boxing’s On The Ropes, World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan said he’s looking to fight his mandatory challenger Marcos Maidana (27-1, 26 KO’s) in March. This is great news for boxing fans, because a lot people have been wondering whether Khan would choose to vacate his title rather than fighting the dangerous Maidana, who may be the hardest hitter in the light welterweight division.
Khan-Maidana: Should Amir vacate his title?
By William Mackay: Promoter Frank Warren recently confirmed that World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan (22-1, 16 KO’s) has been ordered by the WBA to fight light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (27-1, 26 KO’s) next. This is the perfect opportunity for the 23-year-old Khan to prove himself to boxing fans in the UK and elsewhere like the United States that he is the real deal. Khan has said that he wants to prove himself and make a name for himself in the U.S.

The WBA orders Khan vs. Maidana – News
By Scott Gilfoid: The Amir Khan (22-1, 16 KO’s) vacate watch has started, as promoter Frank Warren has corroborated the news that Khan has been ordered by the World Boxing Organization to defend his title next against WBA interim light welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (27-1, 26 KO’s). This probably isn’t the kind of news that Khan was hoping to get, since Maidana is one of the biggest punchers in the light welterweight division with killer strength and true one-punch power.
Khan has a mandatory defense against Maidana next
By Sean McDaniel: World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan has the unfortunate luck to have a mandatory defense coming up next against the hard hitting Marcos Maidana. The thought here is that this is a great fight for Khan to show his talent to American audiences in the U.S. However, the big question is whether Khan will opt to fight Maidana – and risk being knocked flat like Amir was against Breidis Prescott in Khan’s 1st round knockout loss in September 2008, or will Khan choose to defend the title.
Maidana going after Khan; Alexander vs. Urango – News
By William Mackay: World Boxing Association interim light welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (27-1, 26 KO’s) is gunning for a fight with WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan, according to news from Boxing Scene. Maidana, 26, was previously looking at a fight against WBC light welterweight champion Devon Alexander in March, in a fight that would have likely been shown on HBO. However, Maidana instead is looking to get a fight with Khan. The WBA, Rick Reeno says, ordered that the winner of Khan’s December 5th bout against Dmitriy Salita would have to face Maidana, the interim champion, next.
Light Welterweight division could be in for a great 2010
By Peter Wells: First of all I hope you enjoyed my friend Michael Taylor’s articles hopefully he’ll carry on, we just worked together and he took the credit. Well now to the Light Welterweight division, it is full of great names and if all the fighters fought each other then we could have some great fights next year and beyond. Packed into the division we have: Timothy Bradley (WBO), Devon Alexander (WBC), Amir Khan (WBA), Juan Urango (International Boxing Federation), Marcos Maidana, Juan Manuel Marquez, Ricky Hatton, Victor Ortiz, Nate Campbell and Paulie Malignaggi.
Should Hatton fight Maidana next instead of Marquez?
By Sean McDaniel: There’s talk about Ricky Hatton coming back early next year to possibly fight World Boxing Organization lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (50-5-1, 37 KO’s) in a comeback fight. However, I’d much rather see Hatton take on a younger fighter with more like WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (27-1, 26 KO’s).
Urango wants Khan, Maidana, Bradley and Alexander but how far will he good before being beaten
By Peter Wells: According to sources from Boxingscene.com, International Boxing Federation light welterweight champion Juan Urango is looking at all the top dogs in the crammed light welterweight division. Those opponents are WBA number #1 contender Marcos Maidana who not to long ago ruined Victor Ortiz in 5 brutal rounds with 5 knockdowns, and Maidana is also linked with WBC champion Devon Alexander in a March 6th showdown.
