By Muizz Ali: As a boxing fan and having many boxing fan friends around myself, I talk about potential match ups. One match up that comes to everybody’s mind is WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) vs WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (28-1, 27 KO’s). This is an interesting fight mainly because of Khans weak chin and Maidana’s punching power.

Mcguigan thinks Khan should fight Maidana, not Katsidis – News
By William Mackay: In his column at the Mirror.co.uk, former boxing great Barry Mcguigan thinks WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) did a fantastic job of stopping Paulie Malignaggi in the 11th round last week. Mcguigan thinks that Khan has the hand speed, size and strength to possibly move up to the welterweight and then maybe the junior middleweight division in the future depending on how well Khan does in the immediate future. However, he doesn’t believe that the 23-year-old Khan should go after World Boxing Organization lightweight interim champion Michael Katsidis next, saying “Khan has already been accused of fighting smaller men in the early part of his career.”
Khan looking at fighting in July, possibly against Katsidis or Maidana
By Dan Ambrose: WBA light welterweight champion said he’s looking to fight again in July before the start of Ramadan in August. Khan, 23, is looking at several different opponents right now, two of them being WBO lightweight interim champion Michael Katsidis and WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana. The fight that boxing fans want to see is Khan vs. Maidana. However, Maidana has a back injury and it’s unknown whether it will be sufficiently healed by July. It’s a bad enough injury that Maidana had to first postpone and then cancel a fight against WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley.
Khan says he wants Maidana, but will probably fight Katsidis
By William Mackay: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan said that he wants to fight his mandatory WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (28-1, 27 KO’s) next, but the likelihood is that he will be pitted against Australian Michael Katsidis (27-1, 22 KO’s) next. Khan’s promotional team Golden Boy Promotions are interested in putting Khan in with the smaller Katsidis rather than Maidana right now and it’s not hard to see why. Maidana, 5’9”, is closer to the 5’10” Khan’s own size, hits harder and is an incredible puncher and pressure fighter. He can take a heck of a shot and keep coming and would make Khan fight like he never did before.
Maidana pulls out of Bradley bout – News
By Jason Kim: World Boxing Association light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (28-1, 27 KO’s) had to pull out of his scheduled July 17th bout against WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (24-0, 11 KO’s) due to a back injury that isn’t healing properly. Maidana already cancelled one fight with Bradley due to the same injury and rescheduled it on July 17th. Maidana was hoping the injury would heal quickly enough for him to still make the fight with Bradley.
Will Mayweather or Pacquiao Fight Bradley-Maidana Winner?
By Armando Paz: The whole tragedy surrounding the Edwin Valero now creates an interesting situation for Bob Arum and Top Rank. It was the plan for Bob Arum to put on another Top Rank Fighter vs. Top Rank Fighter production. They did it when Joshua Clottey fought Miguel Cotto; Miguel Cotto fought Manny Pacquiao, and recently when Pacquiao fought Clottey. It’s a good tool to make for easy negotiations and keeping the money within the same company.
Bradley vs. Maidana rescheduled for July 17th – News
By William Mackay: The bout between World Boxing Association light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (28-1, 27 KO’s) and WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (25-0, 11 KO’s) has been rescheduled for July 17th, according to Fight News. Last week it was announced that Maidana, 26, had injured his back and would need at least three weeks to recover from the injury. The original date for their fight was supposed to be June 19th. The extra time should give Maidana to properly heal from his back injury and be ready to face Bradley at the Agua Caliente Casino, in Rancho Mirage, California.
Is Maidana the real WBA champion rather than Khan?
By William Mackay: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (22-1, 16 KO’s) is technically the World Boxing Association champion while knockout artist Marcos Maidana (28-1, 27 KO’s) is the WBA interim light welterweight champion.
However, in this case I think the better fighter is the interim champion Maidana rather than Khan, a fighter with a weak chin whose management team aren’t in any hurry to put him in with the hard hitting Maidana. It’s not hard to see why. Maidana seems to be a much more rugged fighter with more power and a much sturdier chin than Khan.
Devon Alexander wants Kotelnik, the only fighter to beat Maidana
By Sean McDaniel: In more of a sign that Marcos Maidana is the most popular fighter in the light welterweight division, recently spurned IBF/WBC light welterweight champion Devon Alexander (20-0, 13 KO’s) wants to go after former World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Andriy Kotelnik (31-3-1, 13 KO’s) for his next fight. The 32-year-old Kotelnik, a 2000 Olympian for Ukraine, is the only fighter ever to beat the hard-hitting Maidana, beating him by a questionable 12 round split decision a year ago in February. The fight took place in Germany, where Kotelnik now fights and for a lot of people, they felt that Maidana had done enough to get the win.
Bradley: “He [Maidana] can either be outboxed, or I could get knocked out”
By Jason Kim: World Boxing Organization light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (25-0, 11 KO’s) knows what he’s up against in his next fight against Argentinean knockout artist Marcos Maidana (28-1, 27 KO’s) when they face each other on June 19th at the Agua Caliente Casino, in Rancho Mirage, California. In an article at Mydesert, the 26-year-old Bradley says “It’s a typical fight between a boxer vs. puncher. I’m not a huge puncher, so he [Maidana] can either be out-boxed or I could get knocked out. I don’t think he fights technically at all. He comes with a game plan, but that’s just to break you down and then knock you out. He’s like, ‘I can take your punchers, but can you take mine?”
