Image: Berto, Chavez Jr., Margarito and Pacquiao possible opponents for Cotto – NewsBy Jason Kim: You can add World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight champion Andre Berto (26-0, 20 KOs) in the mix of potential opponents for new WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KO’s) to fight next. In an article at Primera Hora, Berto’s promoter, Lou Dibella, had this to say about a potential match between Berto and Cotto: “We love the idea. Berto would be willing to rise to 154 pounds to challenge Cotto. I understand that would be a sensational fight for the styles of both fighters. We must wait until all the chips fall into place. Finally, if Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. , face each other, this increases our chances of achieving a fight with Cotto. I had a conversation with [Bob] Arum and he was honest in telling me I had to be patient.”

Manny Pacquiao – The hope, the pride and the icon of a nation

Image: Manny Pacquiao – The hope, the pride and the icon of a nationBy Babatis Banda: Against the odds, against all adversity, whether by chance or by design, this little man stood up, asked for a strong back rather than a light load ….slowly but painfully wriggled his way out of poverty and rose from the masses to the elite.

Pacman, as he is fondly known by his kinsmen and around the world, is the first Asian to have made it this big in sport and in his country, he is revered next to a god. His popularity is unquestionable amongst his people and his recent achievements in the ring have helped catapult his popularity further and evidenced by his election success as a congressman, something he had earlier failed to achieve.

Why doesn’t Pacquiao take the smaller cut to make the Mayweather fight?

Image: Why doesn't Pacquiao take the smaller cut to make the Mayweather fight?By Chris Williams: I don’t understand why Manny Pacquiao is so concerned about wanting to get a 50-50 deal with Floyd Mayweather Jr. He is boxing for the people and not for money, right? Well then it stands to reason that Pacquiao should be more than happy to take the 40% or whatever cut that Mayweather is offering him with reason so that the blockbuster Mayweather-Pacquiao fight can be made.

Pacquiao vs. Mayweather – An Answer to Who Is More Popular

Image: Pacquiao vs. Mayweather - An Answer to Who Is More PopularBy Ryan Dunn: I thought it would be an interesting challenge to figure out who is more popular between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Was there someone with a magic formula to answer the question once and for all? I wasn’t concerned with who was the better boxer, since that cannot be definitively proven. But could I determine something as elusive as popularity? I wondered.

But where to begin? The PPV numbers? Please, those digits are spun more than a six year old on a tilt-a-whirl. Information from the promoters? Honestly, that might, in fact, be an oxymoron. Awards, belts and trophies? Many will argue their merits based on biased judges. What about a fighter’s record? Too hard to quantify the complex dynamics of the fighter’s pedigree, which fighters were peaking when they fought them, etc.

Why should Mayweather agree to a 50-50 deal with Pacquiao?

Image: Why should Mayweather agree to a 50-50 deal with Pacquiao?By Dave Lahr: The latest news going around is that Manny Pacquiao won’t agree to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. unless he gets a 50-50 split of the revenue for the fight. In an article at Philstar.com, Pacquiao says “If it’s going to be a 50-50 split, the fight will definitely push through. Right now, it’s not yet clear. He’s afraid to fight me.” Mayweather is rumored to want a 60-40 deal, which I feel is more than fair because of his huge popularity in the boxing world and his better pay per view numbers compared to Pacquiao. This isn’t charity, you know. Mayweather shouldn’t agree to fight Pacquiao on equal terms when he’s not showing that he’s equal to him in getting paying eyeballs to watch the fights.

Mayweather hopes to make $50 million for Pacquiao bout

Image: Mayweather hopes to make $50 million for Pacquiao boutBy Eric Thomas: According to news from the Manilastandard, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is hoping to make as much as $50 million for his mega fight with World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, if the two fighters can agree to a contract for a bout that will likely take place in November. Writer Ronnie Nathanielsz says that sources are saying that Mayweather hopes to get $50 million, and Pacquiao less but near that amount. This would mean that Mayweather wants a bigger cut of the revenue but not probably not as large as some things that are being said about Mayweather wanting a 60-40 deal.

His last fight brought in only 700,000 compared to the 1.4 million that Mayweather came in with for his fight against Shane Mosley.

Pacquiao reportedly rejects Mayweather’s 60-40 revenue split request

Image: Pacquiao reportedly rejects Mayweather's 60-40 revenue split requestBy Chris Williams: According to Ronnie Nathanielsz from Philboxing.com, Manny Pacquiao has declined a 60-40 revenue split request from Floyd Mayweather Jr. during their the negotiations for a fight that will likely take place in November. The discussions aren’t moving because of the inability to agree to a revenue split. Last time during negotiations in January of this year, Mayweather and Pacquiao agreed on a 50-50 split, but the fight still didn’t take place because Mayweather and Pacquiao couldn’t agree on the blood testing cutoff point. Pacquiao then fought Joshua Clottey and brought in 700,000 pay-per-view buys.
