Has Pacquiao become a paper title collector?

Image: Has Pacquiao become a paper title collector?By Chris Williams: In his pursuit of more and more world titles at different weight classes, Manny Pacquiao no long appears to be going after the best champion in each weight class when he shoots for new titles; Pacquiao now appears to be just fighting guys from his own Top Rank promotional company instead of other fighters that fans might consider better fighters. Since there’s usually four champions in each weight class instead of just one, it seems to lose the value if you don’t take on the fighter that is considered to be the best in that weight class.

By Chris Williams: It’s going to be interesting to see if Manny Pacquiao shoots for a 9th world title after he finishes beating the stuffing out of Antonio Margarito for the vacant World Boxing Council light middleweight title on November 13th. That fight will be Pacquiao’s eighth world title, but you have figure that he’s going to keep reaching for more if he looks good in dispatching Margarito.

Margarito’s trainer says Antonio will try to box Pacquiao – News

Image: Margarito’s trainer says Antonio will try to box Pacquiao – NewsBy Dan Ambrose: Roberto Garcia, the trainer for former WBA/WBO welterweight champion Antonio Margarito (38-6, 27 KO’s), says that the plan for beating Manny Pacquiao (51-3-2, 38 KO’s) is to box him first rather than just going out looking to slug. In an article by John Martinez at Philboxing.com, Garcia says “The world will see a different Margarito this time around. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to change him completely. If Manny wants to go to war, we will help him get his wish. Our focus is to box, but we are ready for a war if Manny wants to go there.”

Is Pacquiao going to play it safe with winnable fights until he gets the Mayweather bout?

Image: Is Pacquiao going to play it safe with winnable fights until he gets the Mayweather bout?By Dave Lahr: With a number of talented opponents to choose from, Manny Pacquiao is being put in Antonio Margarito in his next fight on November 13th. While I think Margarito was a good fighter a couple of years ago, he doesn’t look nearly as dangerous a threat as he used to. Why then is Pacquiao being matched against Margarito, who was stopped last year by Shane Mosley rather than fighters like Timothy Bradley, Sergio Martinez, Paul Williams, Alfredo Angulo, Andre Berto, Mosley and Devon Alexander? Boxing fans already saw Pacquiao fight Joshua Clottey in his last fight. I’m sorry, but I didn’t understand that fight at all.

Light-middleweight a step too far for Pacquiao?

Image: Light-middleweight a step too far for Pacquiao?By Shaun Campbell: So it seems all that Manny Pacquiao will be facing Antonio Margarito for the WBC junior-middleweight title sometime later in the year. Pacquiao, who won his first title at flyweight, will be at his heaviest weight ever when he steps into the ring against Margarito. The puzzling thing for the Pacquiao camp is how do they get a man who walks around at about 10 stone 9, to enter the ring, after an 8 week training camp in the scorching heat of Los Angeles Wild Card Gym, to weigh around 11 stone for the weigh in?

Why doesn’t Pacquiao fight Marquez at a catch weight?

Image: Why doesn’t Pacquiao fight Marquez at a catch weight?By Dave Lahr: Since we’ve already seen that Manny Pacquiao has no issue with fighting different opponents at catch weights, so why not have Pacquiao fight Juan Manuel Marquez at a catch weight? If it’s good enough for Pacquiao, then it should be more than good enough for one of his opponents to use in a fight with him. Pacquiao’s loyal boxing fans say it’s too hard for him to fight below 140 now that he’s fighting at 147. I find that hard to believe.

Pacquiao not interested in fighting a third fight with Marquez for now – News

Image: Pacquiao not interested in fighting a third fight with Marquez for now – NewsBy Jason Kim: For boxing fans that were hoping that Manny Pacquiao would choose to fight a rematch with Juan Manuel Marquez in the near future, they’re going to have forget about that, at least for now. According to Globalnation.inquierer.net, Pacquiao’s lawyer Jeng Gacal, said “He’s [Marquez] out of the picture at the moment.” If Pacquiao does ever fight Marquez again, it will be over 140. Gacal says “Manny will find it hard to trim down to 140 now.” Marquez fought over 140 in his fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. last year in September, and looked slow and bloated at that weight.
