By Manuel Perez: With the dust still settling out from the deeply controversial 12-round majority draw between Kermit Cintron and Sergio Martinez on Saturday night, a fight in which Cintron appeared for all practical purposes counted out in the 7th after running into a hard left hand from Martinez, only to be allowed to continue fighting after arguing his case with the referee while still down.

Cintron: “It Was a Head Butt”
By Manuel Perez: Welterweight Kermit Cintron (30-2-1, 27 KOs) lucked out on Saturday night in surviving what probably should have been a 7th round knockout to stick around long enough to be rewarded with a 12-round majority draw with light middleweight Sergio Martinez at the BankAtlantic Center, in Sunrise, Florida. Judging from the way that Cintron pranced around the ring, shaking his backside to and fro after the fight, Cintron seemed to actually believe that he did well and won the fight.
Martinez Given a Raw Deal In Fight With Cintron
By Chris Williams: Interim WBC light middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (44-1-2, 24 KOs) got a bad break in his fight with Kermit Cintron (30-2-1, 27 KOs) on Saturday night, when referee Frank Santore Jr. appeared to count out Cintron in the 7th after Martinez had knocked Cintron down with a hard left hand. However, Santore said that Cintron had gotten up at the count of nine, rather than ten, allowing the fight to continue. Whether that was so or not, two of the judges appeared to make a mess of the scores by ruling the fight as a 113-113 draw.

The first 2 rounds started out relatively slow and uneventful with both men feeling each other out. The unofficial ringside score had Cintron winning the first two rounds but it really could have gone either way.
Martinez’s Hopes To Impress Against Cintron
By Chris Williams: Interim WBC light middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (44-1-1, 24 KOs) hopes to put on a good display of his talent tomorrow night when he faces the powerful former IBF welterweight champion Kermit Cintron at the BankAtlantic Center, in Sunrise, Florida. Martinez, 33, despite being a little older than most of the top light middleweights in the division, may in fact be the best fighter among them. In contrast to big sluggers like Alfredo Angulo and James Kirkland, Martinez does it with his slick boxing skills which are a throwback to a young Roy Jones Jr.

Cintron vs. Martinez: Kermit Faces Big Test on Saturday
By Jim Dower: Former welterweight champion Kermit Cintron (30-2, 27 KOs) take a big step up against interim WBC light middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (44-1-1, 24 KOs) at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida. In typical fashion, Cintron, 29, doesn’t believe in taking things slowly against lesser competition to build up to a top fighter in the light middleweight division, and is going after the 33-year-old Martinez, who may be the best light middleweight in the division at this time.
