cintron445324By Manuel Perez: Welterweight Kermit Cintron (30-2-1, 27 KOs) lucked out on Saturday night in surviving what probably should have been a 7th round knockout to stick around long enough to be rewarded with a 12-round majority draw with light middleweight Sergio Martinez at the BankAtlantic Center, in Sunrise, Florida. Judging from the way that Cintron pranced around the ring, shaking his backside to and fro after the fight, Cintron seemed to actually believe that he did well and won the fight.

Martinez Given a Raw Deal In Fight With Cintron

cintron556By Chris Williams: Interim WBC light middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (44-1-2, 24 KOs) got a bad break in his fight with Kermit Cintron (30-2-1, 27 KOs) on Saturday night, when referee Frank Santore Jr. appeared to count out Cintron in the 7th after Martinez had knocked Cintron down with a hard left hand. However, Santore said that Cintron had gotten up at the count of nine, rather than ten, allowing the fight to continue. Whether that was so or not, two of the judges appeared to make a mess of the scores by ruling the fight as a 113-113 draw.

The first 2 rounds started out relatively slow and uneventful with both men feeling each other out. The unofficial ringside score had Cintron winning the first two rounds but it really could have gone either way.

Angulo, 26, a former 2004 Olympian for the Mexican team, was initially set to meet former welterweight champion Ricardo Mayorga, but he bailed out on the fight after apparently suffering an injury.
