Holt to be used as sparring partner for Pacquiao

holt32335By Chris Williams: Michael Koncz, the adviser for Manny Pacquiao, will be bringing 32-year-old Kendall Holt into camp to help Pacquiao with sparring to get him fine-tuned for his fight with WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (31-0, 12 KO’s) on April 12th. Holt will be helping out once Pacquiao hits LA to start training at his trainer Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym. It’s unclear who’s idea it was to use Holt.

If it was Koncz’s idea then I think Roach needs to be a little more involved in the selection process for the sparring partner. Holt is kind of up there in age, and he’s not someone that fights anything like Bradley.

Peterson too much for Holt

peterson45By Steven Ocallaghan: So last night in the good old US of A, Lamont Peterson successfully defended his IBF light welterweight title against challenger Kendall Holt, stopping him in the 8th round. Now this is what I find remarkable.

Lamont Peterson scraped a win against Amir Khan to win the title by a 12 round decision in December of 2011. A very debatable win, courtesy of some some controversial calls from referee Joseph Cooper.

Peterson defeats Holt

peterson53By Eric Thomas: Fighting for the first time since December of 2011, IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) blasted out former WBO light welterweight champion Kendall Holt (28-6, 16 KO’s) in the 8th round on Friday night at the DC Armory, Washington, District of Columbia, USA.

The fight was halted by referee Tony Weeks at 1:42 of the 8th round after Peterson hurt Holt with a right hand and then flurried on him as he stood trying to cover up on the ropes. Peterson dropped Holt twice in the fight, once in the 4th and another time in the 6th.

Lamont Peterson has to win more than a fight

peterson7By Cutman’s Stool:  This Friday night on ESPN, IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (30-1-1, 15 KOs) makes his return against Kendall Holt (28-5, 16 KO’s) to the ring in an effort to prove that he is the fighter who defeated Amir Khan back in December 2011.  The win against Khan was the biggest night of Peterson career, but what followed the fight soon ended the creditably of the win.

Peterson failed a drugs test in the build-up for Khan Peterson 1 and this became public knowledge in the build-up to the rematch.  Peterson later admitted he had taken synthetic testosterone for a medical condition but didn’t inform the Nevada Athletic Commission.  The WBA belt stripped Peterson’s belt however he retained the IBF belt.

Peterson vs. Holt on February 22nd in Washington, DC

peterson434By Thomas Cowan: Lamont Peterson will be defending his IBF light welterweight title on February 22nd against Kendall Holt. As someone who loves boxing, I think allowing a drug cheat to keep his title is an absolute disgrace and sends out totally the wrong message to young boxers. Peterson was caught using synthetic testosterone after he fought Amir Khan in December 2011 and hasn’t fought since. The WBA stripped Peterson of his title and returned it to Khan but the IBF decided that it was fair for Peterson to boost his testosterone levels artificially without asking for permission from Khan or the sanctioning bodies.

Unlike some writers who make every excuse in the book for Peterson, purely because he’s American, I think it’s important to see the bigger picture here. By allowing Peterson to keep his title because the testosterone pellets were supposedly to boost his low testosterone level and put him on a level playing field with other fighters, the IBF are condoning cheating.

Holt-Peterson: Lamont in a must win fight on February 22nd in Washington, DC

peterson432By Allan Fox: IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (30-1-1, 15 KO’s) recently signed a contract with Golden Boy Promotions to put himself in position to get important big money fights against the likes of Lucas Matthysse, Danny Garcia and Amir Khan, the big three in the light welterweight division.

For the 31-year-old Peterson to take advantage of his new status as a Golden Boy fighter and to get those important fights, he’s going to have to get past former WBO light welterweight champion Kendall Holt (28-5, 16 KO’s) next month on February 22nd in their fight at the DC Armory in Washington, DC.

Lamont Peterson vs. Kendall Holt possible for 1/19

Image: Lamont Peterson vs. Kendall Holt possible for 1/19By Dan Ambrose: A fight between IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (30-1-1, 15 KO’s) and former WBO light welterweight champion Kendall Holt (28-5, 16 KO’s) could take place on January 19th on the undercard of the Zab Judah vs. Danny Garcia fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, according to Steve Kim on his twitter. Besides this fight, WBO middleweight champion Peter Quillin could be facing former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Jermain Taylor.

Peterson, 28, defeated Amir Khan to capture the WBA and IBF light welterweight titles last December in a controversial fight in Washington, DC. The fight itself wasn’t really controversial, as it was pretty clear that Peterson had out-worked a flustered Khan.

Peterson to fight Holt next; Judah drops out of negotiations

Image: Peterson to fight Holt next; Judah drops out of negotiationsBy Allan Fox: With the money and the television networks not there, former two division world champion Zab Judah has reportedly dropped out of negotiations to fight IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (30-1-1, 15 KO’s). Instead of Peterson of Judah happening, Peterson will now face former #WBO light welterweight champion Kendall Holt (28-5, 16 KO’s) in a fight that is perhaps even worse than the Judah-Peterson fight.

Television networks likely won’t be interested in showing this fight, and it’s going to come down to Peterson bringing in the gate money for this fight to make any real cash.
