Keith “The Beast” Thurman is the U.S.A. Wild Card vs. Brook or Khan

thurman32By Don Ech: The time is slowly but surely coming for the “Dark Horse” to appear and show his head and his powerful force of nature and that is none other than Keith “One Time” Thurman of Clearwater Florida. The definition of “Dark Horse” is defined as “A competitor or candidate about whom “little” is known but who unexpectedly wins and succeeds “and in my opinion that description fits Thurman totally.

Keith Thurman is the guy that many will “hate on” and discredit because of whom his Promotional Company has aligned him with to fight but secretly those same people also recognize the danger and risk he poses for any fighter at 147 & 154. In my opinion Keith Thurman is the “Passive Aggressive” type the guy who does not need to “bark” at anyone because his “bite” is far worse and far more devastating just “One Time”.

Kell Brook weathers the Porter storm

brook877By Yannis Mihanos: As I witnessing Kell “The Special K” Brook (33-0, 22 KOs) for the first time in beating IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (24-1-1, 15 KOs) last Saturday night, I must say that he did convince me. His performance was not outstanding but it was rock solid.

Anybody else would have fallen after the ferocious attacks of Porter starting from round 1 up to round 12, but no, not this one, not this guy.

At the beginning I was a bit sceptic with what I would see from Brook cause many times fighters who come with clean sheet records are not in reality what they seem to be (paper champs). That was clearly not the case here. The lad from Sheffield England was well trained and determined and win.

Thurman: I’ve got an ‘0,’ and I’m not afraid to let it go!

thurman32423By Raj Parmar: As Kell Brook pulled off the upset against Shawn Porter this past weekend, the fighter that benefited most (other than Brook himself) was Keith “One Time” Thurman (23-0, 21KO’s).

Thurman’s team had been trying to set up a major showdown with Porter however they stated that Porter’s camp had not shown much interest or enthusiasm in finalizing a clash with Thurman.

This left “One Time” in a bad predicament for his quest to become world champion, as he is the mandatory challenger for Floyd Mayweather’s WBA welterweight title and Floyd is scheduled to face Marcos Maidana in September before taking the rest of the year off.

Kell Brook – What were you watching?

porter#2By Rusty Nate: Having read a few articles and more importantly the comments regarding the fight between Kell Brook and Shawn Porter, I felt compelled to put across the truth behind the stupid comments.

The fight was built up as being close between the two fighters for much of the same reasons on both sides. They were men that were untested on a realistic world class level.

Brook is a fighter that appears to have been protected and spoon fed easier opponents over the years than he probably should have been. That’s no surprise and is pretty accurate. He has fought above domestic level but probably nothing to far north of European / Commonwealth level.

Does Kell Brook need Amir Khan to keep living the dream?

porter#1By Robbie Bannatyne: Kell Brook is living the dream, and now that he has ended his long and frustrating wait for a world title he is going to want to live the dream for as long as possible.

It has been a long and arduous journey to the summit for the Sheffield man, but now he is at the top it will only get tougher. The glass ceiling has been shattered, and now that the ‘Special One’ can bring his shiny new IBF world title to the party he is suddenly being ushered through doors that have been previously slammed shut in his face. Who lies in wait behind those doors provides a fascinating insight into how a man quickly becomes a priceless commodity when he has a world title in his possession, especially when it is a title in the most talent rich and lucrative division in boxing.

Brook v Khan is the only fight that makes sense

brook6677By Gav Duthie: There may be other fighters more deserving of a title shot but new IBF champion Kell Brook 33-0 (22) would be mad not to fight Amir Khan 29-3 (19) for his first defense. Before Saturday’s fight had Brook lost he would have been nowhere but now his opportunities are endless. The main two reasons for a fight with Khan is:

1. The payday which would be considerable (compared to other fights)
2. The chance to take Khan’s place in the queue for a Mayweather fight.

American fans will rightly state that Devon Alexander, Keith Thurman and Tim Bradley are more deserving but its a simple case of financial mathematics. It is also the best fight for Amir Khan, Matchroom and Golden Boy promotions and to an extent even Floyd Mayweather.

De La Hoya: Keith Thurman said he’ll fight Brook in UK

By Scott Gilfoid: Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya says that WBA interim welterweight champion Keith Thurman (23-0, 21 KOs) is willing to go over to the UK to challenge IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (33-0, 22 KOs) for his new title if they’re open to taking the fight.

Should Brook have been disqualified for his constant holding of Porter?

brook55666By Gerardo Granados: Once up on a time the rules were clear and referees were very strong to make the fighters respect the rules and to obey their commands, but now a days things might have changed for worst. According to the current rules applied by the major boxing organizations it is clear that “holding” or be named as clinching is a FOUL.

Before I continue I´ll make clear that I am not a fan of either Brook or Porter but I do am a loyal boxing fan of an entertaining fight. What happen last Saturday night was not new; it has happen in the past and will keep on happening if the rules are not properly applied by the referee.

Hearn: Brook can call the shots now; Khan may not like that

brook5666By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn thinks that his fighter IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (33-0, 22 KOs) is now in the position where he can call the shots in terms of a future fight Amir Khan.

Hearn sees the combination Brook having beaten Shawn Porter (24-1-1, 15 KOs) last Saturday night and having won his IBF welterweight title as being enough to put Brook in a position where he’d have the upper hand against Khan in negotiations.

I’m not sure that I agree with that. First of all, Brook having won the IBF title makes him arguably the 4th best of the 4 champions at 147. You have to rate WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr and WBO 147 pound champion Manny Pacquiao ahead of Brook as for being legitimate champions.

Brook schooled Porter, says Hearn

porter100By Scott Gilfoid: British promoter Eddie Hearn says he saw his fighter Kell Brook (33-0, 22 KOs) beating Shawn Porter (24-1-1, 15 KOs) by as many as 6 points last night in taking his IBF 147 pound strap at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Hearn feels that Brook totally schooled Porter, and he sees the win as being a life-changing event for Brook with him now getting big money fights against the likes of Amir Khan, Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Jr and Juan Manuel Marquez.

Hearn must have grin on his face as wide as the Cheshire Cat today, because now he has a potential replacement for the aging Carl Froch as his next money fighter.
