Jurgen Braehmer wants Carl Froch fight

brahmer344By Scott Gilfoid: WBA light heavyweight strap holder Jurgen Braehmer (44-2, 32 KOs) is interested in facing IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (33-2, 24 KOs) at either 168 or a catch-weight.

Braehmer’s promoter Kalle Sauerland believes a fight between the two fighters would be a big deal, presumably because of a Germany vs. England rivalry. Froch still doesn’t have an opponent for next January, and it’s looking like the fight that he’s been pining away for against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr isn’t going to happen.

Juergen Braehmer vs. Roberto Bolonti on June 7th in Germany

braehmer3444(Picture: Team Sauerland) By Scott Gilfoid: WBA light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer (43-2, 32 KOs) will be playing it safe in his next title defense against #7 WBC, #14 IBF Roberto Bolonti (35-2, 24 KO’s) on June 7th at the Sport and Congress Center, Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. It looks like Braehmer, 35, will be getting another optional title defense with this fight after an easy optional title defense in his last fight against Enzo Maccarinelli last April in a 5th round stoppage. The Bolonti fight, believe it or not, is a step down from Braehmer’s easy title defense against Maccarinelli.

There had been talk about a rematch between Braehmer and Maccarinelli, but it looks like Braehmer’s promoter wanted to go with an easier option instead against Bolonti.

There’s really not much to say about the 35-year-old Bolonti other than he was easily beaten two years ago by Britain’s Tony Bellew in losing by a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision in November of 2012.

Maccarinelli vs. Braehmer 2 rematch possible for June

macc5By Scott Gilfoid: A rematch between WBA light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer (43-2, 32 KO’s) and British challenge Enzo Maccarinelli (38-7, 30 KO’s) is being talked about for June, according to the Argus. Braehmer stopped Maccarinelli earlier this month in a 5th round stoppage due to an eye injury that the 33-year-old Maccarinelli had suffered. The eye injury turned out to be just bad swelling, and not a serious injury to the eye or a fracture of the orbital bone as fans had first thought.

The Maccarinelli-Braehmer fight brought in huge ratings in Germany with over 3 million viewers watching it. This is perhaps the main reason why Braehmer’s promoters are interested in the rematch with Maccarinelli. With interest like that in their fight earlier this month, it would be crazy not to want to have a rematch between them, especially given the way the fight ended.

Maccarinelli wants rematch against Braehmer after horrible eye injury

macc999By Scott Gilfoid: #7 WBC Enzo Maccarinelli (38-7, 30 KO’s) is hoping that WBA World light heavyweight champion Jurgen Braehmer (43-2, 32 KO’s) will be a good one and give him a rematch after Maccarinelli suffered a horrific eye injury that caused his title challenge against the 35-year-old Braehmer to be halted prematurely before the start of the 6th round last night at the Stadthalle, Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany.

Maccarinelli, 33, isn’t saying that he would have beaten Braehmer if he hadn’t been injured, but he still feels the fight outcome would have been different.

For Braehmer and his promoters to give Maccarinelli a rematch, they’d have to take at the past history of Maccarinelli to decide whether it would be worth the risk of subjecting their German fans to another less than pleasant looking fight against Maccarinelli if there’s a chance that one of his eyes will start to swell up the second that Braehmer starts nailing Macc with straight left hands to the head.

Braehmer retains WBA light heavyweight title after Maccarinelli suffers eye injury

macc5By Simon Allen: Jurgen Braehmer retained his WBA light heavyweight title after Enzo Maccarinelli forced to quit after suffering a nasty eye injury.

Enzo, hoping to become a two weight world champion entered the fight with a point to prove after being written off by most Boxing pundits.

In round one both fighters started quickly and willing trade as they felt each other out.

Braehmer showed his experience throwing one twos from range and moving out of distance. Maccarinelli however did have some success landing a few big punches of his own. Braehmer suffered a cut above his right eye midway through the round after an accidental clash of heads. Maccarinelli probably thought his luck was in and had something to exploit until Braehmer landed a right hand of his own ten seconds before the end of the round.

Braehmer defeats Maccarinelli by 6th round TKO

macc2By Scott Gilfoid: WBA World light heavyweight champion Jurgen Braehmer (43-2, 32 KO’s) successfully defended his title on Saturday night in defeating the past his best Enzo Maccarinelli (38-7, 30 KO’s) in stopping him after the 5th round at the Stadthalle, Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Maccarnielli’s right eye closed up after the 1st round from the left hands he was eating from Braehmer. Maccarinelli’s right cheek swelled up. It’s officially called a 6th round TKO despite the round not having started.

Maccarinelli wanted to keep fighting, but his trainer Gary Lockett cut off his gloves before the start of the 6th after telling him that he was too banged up to continue. Maccarinelli probably should have taken that moment to shove Lockett aside in order to keep fighting, but instead he passively let Lockett cut off his gloves. A more forceful fighter would have taken charge of the situation and read Lockett the riot act in order to keep the fight going, but Maccarinelli let let Lockett have his way. With his career on the line, Maccarinelli went out in less than assertive manner.

Braehmer faces Maccarinelli tonight

maccarinelli12(Picture: Team Sauerland) By Scott Gilfoid: WBA World light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer (42-2, 31 KO’s) will be coming into his title defense against Enzo Maccarinelli (38-6, 30 KO’s) tonight with an 11-fight winning streak in their fight at the Stadthalle, Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Braehmer, a natural light heavyweight, has looked good since his loss to Hugo Hernan Garay in 2008.

Braehmer never bothered to avenge the loss, but he really didn’t need to because Garay’s career immediately imploded with losses to Gabriel Campillo and Chris Henry. Braehmer doesn’t see the 6’4” ex-cruiserweight champion Maccarinelli as a real light heavyweight, as he sees him as someone who has melted down from 200lbs to fight in the 175lb division. Braehmer thinks the loss of weight will hurt Maccarinelli even though he’s been fighting at light heavyweight for over a year.

Maccarinelli says “do not blink” for his clash against Braehmer Saturday

braehmer444(Photo credit: Team Sauerland) By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli (38-6, 30 KO’s) towered over the shorter WBA World light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer (42-2, 31 KO’s) in their final press conference today before their clash this Saturday night, April 5th at the Stadthalle, Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Maccarinelli, 33, sees this as a fight that will end in a knockout, and I totally agree with him in that belief.

I’m just not so sure that it’s going to go in Enzo’s favor, though. I hope for his sake that his trainer Gary Lockett has been working on improving his defense, because he’s going to need it on Saturday if he’s to last long enough to test his own power on Braehmer’s chin.

Maccarinelli might stop Braehmer once he connects, says Lockett

maccarinelli32By Scott Gilfoid: Gary Lockett, the trainer for Enzo Maccarinelli (38-6, 30 KO’s), thinks he could knock WBA World light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer (42-2, 31 KO’s) out this Saturday night as soon as he lands a big shot at the Stadthalle, Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany.

Maccarinelli has a 3-fight winning streak against Courtney Fry, Ovill McKenzie and Carl Wild. Those guys aren’t anywhere near being in the same class as Braehmer. What this means is that Maccarinelli’s empty wins are no indication that he’s going to be competitive with Braehmer, or that he’s going to have a chance of beating him if he lands something big.
