Juergen Braehmer defends against Enzo Maccarinelli this Saturday, April 5th in Germany

maccarinelli2By Scott Gilfoid:< WBA World light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer (42-2, 31 KO’s) will be defending his title this Saturday night against a fighter who could be at the last chance saloon in 33-year-old Enzo Maccarinelli (38-6, 30 KO’s) at the Stadthalle, Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Maccarinelli, #7 WBA, seems to have picked out based on him having previously held the WBO cruiserweight strap from 2006-2008 until losing it to David Haye by a 2nd round knockout in March of 2008. Not long ago, Maccarinelli was losing his fights left and right, but he’s finally turned things around with three straight wins over little known domestic level competition. It’s good that Enzo has turned his career around, because he’s going to need to be at 100 percent this Saturday night if he’s to beat Braehmer to take his WBA title. To be sure, Braehmer’s not in the class of guys like Adonis Stevenson and Sergey Kovalev, but he’s plenty tough for a fighter like Maccarinelli.

Braehmer-Maccarinelli: Will Jurgen put Enzo out of his misery on April 5th?

maccarinelli4By Scott Gilfoid: After a six-year dry spell former WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli (38-6, 30 KO’s) will finally get another crack at a world title against WBA light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer (42-2, 31 KO’s) on April 5th at the Stadthalle, Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Maccarinelli, 33, has been relegated to the Euro level for the past 6 years since losing his WBO cruiserweight title to David Haye by a 2nd round TKO in 2008.

Maccarinelli has looked pretty horrible in knockout loses to Ola Afolabi, Denis Lebedev, Alexander Frenkel, and Ovill McKenzie. But after all those defeats, Maccarinelli has clawed his way into a title shot against Braehmer on April 5th, and this is his big chance to win a strap, albeit against a fighter who many boxing fans see as a paper champion.

Brahmer-Maccarinelli on April 5th in Germany

maccarinelli2By Scott Gilfoid: WBA World light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer (42-2, 31 KO’s) will be making his first title defense of his WBA 175 lb title on April 5th against 33-year-old former WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli (38-6, 30 KO’s) at the Stadthalle, Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Brahmer, 35, recently captured the vacant WBA title in beating little known fighter Marcus Oliveira by a dull 12 round unanimous decision last December. Oliveira, 34, had gotten ranked high enough to fight for the title based on a resume filled with less than stellar opposition.

I really don’t rate Maccarinelli. I still see him as a fighter who is pretty much past it. He still has good power, but he’s someone that is a knockout waiting to happen anytime he’s in with someone halfway good. Maccarinelli might actually win this fight if he can put his punches together, and throw enough shots to get a decision or maybe a stoppage.

A Look Back On Last Weekend’s Boxing

03(Photo credit: Naoki Fakuda) By Shane Newsome: After a highly entertaining week of boxing from a number of counties including three world title fights and a number of our favorite boxers in action, its easy to get lost in the hype and lose track of what is really happening out there so here is your impartial look back on Saturday 27th April 2013 in the world of boxing.

And we start our journey in Sheffield, Yorkshire, UK and the main event Amir Khan (28-3) vs Julio Diaz (40-8-1) here was another night that Bolton’s Amir Khan should have made easy work of a lesser opponent though instead we had ourselves yet another night of hearts beating, on the edge of our seats watching a technically sound offensive boxer holding on for dear life after being caught time and time again through defensive frailties.

Braehmer destroys Averlant; Arslan decisions Vekiloglu

Tony Averlant, JŸrgen BrŠhmer(Picture: Photo Wende) By Jim Dower: In a bad mismatch, EBU light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer (40-2, 31 KO’s) destroyed journeyman challenger Tony Averlant (18-8-2, 4 KO’s) in a 2nd round knockout on Saturday night at the Sporthalle, Alsterdorf, in Hamburg, Germany. The 34-year-old Braehmer tagged Averlant with a hard left to the body in the 2nd round that sent him down on the canvas.

Although Averlant made it back to his feet, referee Howard John Foster halted the fight anyway at 2:36. It’s a good thing the referee did stop the fight because as soon as he waived the fight off, Averlant sunk back down on the canvas on his own and continued to clutch at his midsection while grimacing in pain.

A Look Forward to This Weeks Boxing

clip_image006By Shane Newsome: With again another packed schedule on both sides of the Atlantic we have busy cards in UK, USA but also action from Argentina and Germany with fights not to be missed, so let’s take a look at what we have in store.

First we go to Sheffield, Yorkshire, UK and the main event Amir Khan (27-3) vs Julio Diaz (40-7-1) this fight should just be another stepping stone for the 26 year-old Brit even a Diaz in his absolute prime should be easy work for someone as skilled as Khan look for him to get Julio out of there around the mid-late rounds anything else and maybe Khan will deserve the criticism he will most definitely receive, if he does win this fight in easy fashion like expected you would hope he would now step back up to world level and try and avenge on of his recent defeats like he has talked about, we will soon see.

Cleverly looking past Krasniqi towards Braehmer fight

cleverly6By Scott Gilfoid: WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly (25-0, 12 KO’s) has a really tough title defense coming up next month against #1 WBO Robin Krasniqi (39-2, 15 KO’s) on March 16th at the Wembley Arena, in London, United Kingdom.

Instead of putting his entire focus on winning this fight, Cleverly is looking past it towards his next title defense, if there is one, against the former WBO light heavyweight champion Jurgen Braehmer.

Cleverly expects to face Jurgen Braehmer if he gets past Kransniqi on March 16th

cleverly45By Thomas Cowan: WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly has revealed he expects to be making a mandatory defence of his title against German Jurgen Braehmer if he wins his fight against Robin Krasniqi in London next month.

Braehmer earned a shot at Cleverly by beating Eduard Gutknecht in Berlin two weeks ago. This would be a good fight for Cleverly because he’s always been seen as a paper champion after he inherited the title due to former champion Braehmer pulling out of their fight with an injury. Braehmer has worked his way back up the rankings and will be desperate to regain the title that he will feel is rightfully his.

KarstenRoewer_JuergenBraehmer(Picture: Photo Wende) By Scott Gilfoid: Well, WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly (25-0, 12 KO’s) doesn’t have to worry about not having an opponent after his March 16th title defense against #1 WBO Robin Krasniqi (39-2, 15 KO’s) at the Wembley Arena in London, UK.

Former WBO light heavyweight champion Jurgen Braehmer (39-2, 30 KO’s) defeated Eduard Gutknecht by a 12 round unanimous decision last Saturday night in a World Boxing Organization 175 pound eliminator bout to put himself in position to get the Cleverly fight.
