Joshua beats Martin, says Joseph Parker’s promoter

joshua56666By Jeff Aranow: Dean Lonergan, the promoter for unbeaten #6 IBF Joseph Parker (18-0, 16 KOs), is expecting unbeaten #4 IBF Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) to defeat IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs) on April 9 in their fight on Sky Box Office from the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Parker, 24, could soon be facing Joshua for the IBF title if Parker beats #5 IBF Carlos Takam in their IBF eliminator bout in May. There isn’t a set date for the Takam vs. Parker fight, but it’s definitely going to take place in May.

The winner of the contest will be the IBF mandatory challenger and will face the winner of the Martin-Joshua fight at some point in the future.

Joseph Parker wants Anthony Joshua – Charles Martin winner

parkerBy Scott Gilfoid: Undefeated Joseph Parker (18-0, 16 KOs) will be keeping a close eye on next month’s title fight between IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin and Anthony Joshua at the O2 Arena in London, UK. The 24-year-old Parker wants to fight the winner of that contest, and he’s keen at getting the chance to fight the 6’6” Joshua.

Parker isn’t saying why he’s interested in fighting Joshua, but it could be he’s spotted how slow of hand, how robotic and how over-muscled Joshua is and he sees weakness. We just saw Joshua exposed in his last fight against Dillian Whyte in which Joshua was staggered in the 2nd round, and looking like he was laboring. Who knows?

If not for Whyte suffering a shoulder injury to his primary weapon, his left hand, we might have seen Joshua getting blasted out in that round. I can’t see the 24-year-old Parker hurting a shoulder in the round that he staggers Joshua.

The winner of the Parker-Takam fight will be the new IBF mandatory challenger and will be facing the winner of the April 9 fight between IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs) and #4 IBF Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

The #1 and #2 spots are currently unrated by the IBF, and No.3 contender is Erkan Teper, who is currently suspended.

Parker and Takam won’t avoid the IBF eliminator. Both are reportedly interested in taking that fight, according to ESPN. They’ll need to work quickly to negotiate the fight because they’ve got slightly less than a month to get the fight agreed and signed.

Joseph Parker stops Jason Bergman in 8th

parkerBy Jim Dower: #3 WBO, #7 WBC, #10 IBF, #11 WBA heavyweight contender Joseph Parker (18-0, 16 KOs) remained unbeaten in stopping a flabby looking 31-year-old Jason Bergman (25-12-2, 16 KOs) in the 8th round of a scheduled 12 round bout to retain his WBO African/Oriental heavyweight titles last Friday night at the Faleata Sports Complex, in Apia, Samoa.

The 24-year-old Parker hurt Bergman with a left to the body followed by right to the head that backed him up to the ropes. Parker than landed a big left-right combination that dropped Bergman to the canvas. A hurt looking Bergman got back to his feet, but referee John Conway chose to stop the fight after looking at how hurt Bergman was.

The official time of the stoppage was at 1:02 of round eight. Parker knocked Bergman down three times in the fight in dropping him once in the 2nd, 7th and 8th rounds. If there’s anything to criticize from Parker’s performance, it’s how easy it was for Bergman to hit him.

Joseph Parker sees nothing special in Charles Martin

1-MARTIN VS GLAZKOV-FIGHT NIGHT-01162016-0470By Tim Fletcher: 6’5” American Charles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs) captured the IBF heavyweight title last Saturday night with a 3rd round injury stoppage win over #1 IBF Vyachaslav Glazkov (21-1-1, 13 KOs) on the Deontay Wilder vs. Artur Szpilka card at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The fight was stopped at 1:50 of the third round after the 31-year-old Glazkov suffered a right knee injury that prevented him from continuing the fight.

Before the bout was halted, Martin had done little to impress. #7 IBF contender Joseph Parker (17-0, 15 KOs) did not see much from Martin to be impressed about.

Joseph Parker targeting Anthony Joshua

joshua44By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) had better keep an eye out for unbeaten New Zealand heavyweight Joseph Parker (17-0, 15 KOs), because the 23-year-old fighter is very interested in getting in the ring with Joshua in the future and testing his power shots out on the Brit’s chin.

While Parker admires the opportunities that Joshua has for big fights in the UK, he doesn’t lack for confidence to want to get inside the ring with the 6’6” Joshua so that he can try bouncing some of his power shots off his chin. Parker obviously saw how Joshua was recently hurt in the 2nd round of his last fight against Dillian Whyte in December.

Parker destroys Saglam in 2

YouTube video

By Bryce Wilson –Arena Manawatu, Saturday June 13th.

Undercard – Polish heavyweight Izu Ugonoh 12(10)-0 improved his unbeaten record with a rough and tumble unanimous 8 round decision against 6 foot 10 Julius Long. Ugonoh came out pumping the jab against the much taller heavier Long, hurting the veteran to body in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. A HUGE right hand floored Long in the 4th that he did well to recover from going into survival mode for the rest of the round. The action slowed a little in the 5th and 6th as both men had their moments. Ugonoh closed the fight strongly using an effective jab and hard body shots to cruise to a comfortable decision.
