Agbeko possible opponent for Quigg’s fight on November 22nd

quigg433By Scott Gilfoid: According to ESPN, 34-year-old former two time IBF bantamweight champion Joseph Agbeko 29-5, 22 KOs) is a possible opponent for WBA World super bantamweight champion Scott Quigg’s next title defense on November 22nd on the undercard of the Tony Bellew vs. Nathan Cleverly 2 fight card at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK.

Quigg’s promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport is working on matching Quigg against either Agbeko or little known #3 WBA Shingo Wake (17-4-2, 10 KOs). Either one of those guys are perfect opponents because they’re not much of a threat at all to beat Quigg.

Exclusive Coverage and Undercard Results: Rigondeaux vs. Agbeko

rigon13By Sevak Sarkisian-Ringside: Matt Korobov improves to (22-0 -13Ko’s) via TKO 28 seconds going into the 9th round against Derek Edwards who drops to (26-3-13Ko’s).

Mathew Macklin v Lamar Russ

Macklin improves to (30-5-20Ko’s) while Russ drops to (14-1-7Ko’s). Russ would have good moments when he didn’t stay in one spot and used movement. Macklin landed the harder shots throughout the fight and displayed a nice hard jab to help close the distance. However, Russ proved that Macklin can be out boxed by a good enough boxer. Russ was able to do it for a few rounds throughout the fight by using his jab to maintain distance and lateral movement. It was an entertaining contest and I wouldn’t mind seeing ether fighter again.

Rigondeaux: Poor Nonito, he’s still traumatized about the beating I gave him

rigondeauux6By Chris Williams: WBO/WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (13-0, 8 KO’s) enjoyed poking fun at the expense of Nonito Donaire last night following Rigondeaux’s easy 12 round unanimous decision win over 33-year-old Joseph Agbeko (29-5, 22 KO’s) at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA.

In being interview by HBO’s Max Kellerman after the fight, Rigondeaux said he’s willing give Donaire another beating if he wants one.

Rigondeaux said “Nonito, poor man. He’s traumatized after the beating I gave him. If he wants another beating, tell him to come and get it. I’ll give him another one.”

Rigondeaux defeats Agbeko by lopsided decision

rigon65By Chris Williams: WBA/WBO super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (13-0, 8 KO’s) put on a nice boxing clinic in defeating an over-matched Joseph Agbeko (29-5, 22 KO’s) by a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Rigondeaux won the fight by the scores 120-108, 120-108, 120-108. In other words, Rigondeaux won every round of the one-sided fight.

Agbeko initially tried to make a fight of it in the first couple of rounds, but when he figured out he was too slow to land, he went into a shell and didn’t seem to try and win. It just looked like Agbeko was trying to survive. He’d try to throw shots, but he wouldn’t throw enough of them and he didn’t attack Rigondeaux the way braver opponents have done in the past. With Agbeko not really attacking in a meaningful way, it quickly become really one-sided with Rigondeaux picking a timid looking Agbeko off with shots at will and standing there waiting for attacks that never came from Agbeko.

Rigondeaux vs. Agbeko: My Two Cents

rigondeaux23By Jay McIntyre: When I think of Guillermo Rigondeaux (12-0, 8 KO’s) I hear Bill Cosby years ago saying: “I don’t know the key to success but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.” The boxing public is a frustratingly bi-polar collective; prone to rapidly condemning or adoring a fighter with little justification.

Rigondeaux is no exception to this judgment and he seems to either be praised as a technician or condemned as a “boring fighter”. His match against Nonito Donaire incurred some unwarranted boos from the audience last April, and some executives at HBO apparently even expressed their own displeasure at the lack of fireworks during the bout. But what else could have been expected?

Rigondeaux has the skills to dominate Agbeko

rigondeaux55By Gerardo Granados: Next Saturday night at Atlantic City, New Jersey, U.S.; the former IBF – IBO bantamweight champion Joseph Agbeko (W29(22)-L4-D0) will engage against the current WBA Super World – WBO super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (W12(8)L0-D0). But are fight fans looking forward to see this fight?

Although Rigondeaux is a very talented boxer his fighting style and personality might not amuse too many fight fans. He has the ring experience and over all boxing skills to become a huge draw but will he be able to exploit it?

Rigondeaux won’t change his style for Agbeko fight

rigondeaux5By Chris Williams: WBA/WBO super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (12-0, 8 KO’s) doesn’t plan on changing his fighting style to look more entertaining for his fight this Saturday night against Joseph Agbeko (29-4, 22 KO’s) at the Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA.

After his victory over Noniton Donaire last April, Rigondeaux’s promoter Bob Arum said it would be hard to get him fights on HBObecause of his less than crowd-pleasing fighting style had turne off some of the HBO executives. But Rigondeaux doesn’t want to change the way he fights to become a slugger that gets hit a lot like some other fighters do, because that’s not who he is. Rigondeaux has good power, but he doesn’t want get in the trenches with his opponents for primitive fights.

Rigondeaux willing to fight Donaire at a catch-weight

rigondeaux111`By Chris Williams: WBA/WBO super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (12-0, 8 KO’s) says he’ll fight featherweight Nonito Donaire (32-2, 21 KO’s) in a rematch at a catch-weight of 123 lbs. if Donaire doesn’t rehydrate 10 pounds above that weight and come into the fight as a lightweight at 133 lbs. to fight him. Rigondeaux wants to beat Donaire again, but he doesn’t want to be in the ring with a lightweight on the night of the fight.

Rigondeaux beat Donaire by a 12 round unanimous decision last April, and Donaire is starting to make noise finally about wanting a rematch to try and avenge his embarrassing defeat. However, Donaire has a lot of healing he has to do after suffering a small fracture of his left orbital bone from his fight against Vic Darchinyan last month. Donaire will be out of the ring until the March or April of next year, and that’s if his injury heals properly because he’s hoping that it’ll heal without surgery.

Rigondeaux faces Agbeko this Saturday in Atlantic City

rigondeaux66By Chris Williams: This Saturday night, WBA/WBO super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (12-0, 8 KO’s) will be defending his title against former IBF bantamweight champion Joseph Agbeko (29-4, 22 KO’s) on HBO from the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA. Rigondeaux, 33, hasn’t fought since dominating Nonito Donaire in winning an easy 12 round unanimous decision last April in New York.

This isn’t the big fight that Rigondeaux wanted after he beat Donaire. Rigondeaux wanted a big fight, but instead he’s got to settle for for Agbeko, who has lost 3 out of his last 5 fights. When casual fans think of Agebeko, they remember his exciting fights against Abner Mares, Yonnhy Perez and Vic Darcinyan. But what they don’t remember was that he was beaten twice by Mares, beaten by Perez and almost beaten by Darchyinyan.

Agbeko: Donaire is a better fighter than Rigondeaux

donaire#9By Chris Williams: Former IBF bantamweight champion Joseph Agbeko (29-4, 22 KO’s) isn’t giving WBA/WBO super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (12-0, 8 KO’s) much credit for his win over Nonito Donaire last April. Agbeko still thinks Donaire is more talented than Rigondeaux, and he feels that the only reason Donaire lost the fight was because he was trying to make it an exciting fight. If not for that, Agbeko thinks Donaire would have beaten Rigondeaux.

Agbeko and Rigondeaux will be facing each other on December 7th on HBO at the Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA. Agbeko likes his chances against Rigondeaux because he thinks Rigondeaux hasn’t been in with very many good fighters before. Agbeko is right about that, at least at the pro level.
