By Scott Gilfoid: Say what you want about Oscar De La Hoya, but he sure knows how to pump up his fighters and make them look like the best thing since sliced bread. Speaking about World Boxing Association heavyweight champion David Haye, De La Hoya says “With his explosive fighting style, heart, youth and charisma, David Haye is the most exciting heavyweight in the world.” After reading what De La Hoya has to say about Haye, I don’t know if anyone can ever beat this guy?
John Ruiz
Haye looking to knock Ruiz out on April 3rd – News
By Scott Gilfoid: World Boxing Association heavyweight champion David Haye (23-1, 21 KO’s) is looking for a knockout in his next fight against former two-time WBA heavyweight champion John Ruiz (44-8-1, 30 KO’s) on April 3rd, at the M.E.N. Arena, Manchester, Lancashire. This will be the first title defense for the 29-year-old Haye after he captured the title with an uninspiring 12 round majority decision over former WBA heavyweight title holder Nikolay Valuev on November 7th.
Haye vs. Ruiz: Will David run from the Quiet Man?
By Scott Gilfoid: World Boxing Association heavyweight champion David Haye (23-1, 21 KO’s) has a title defense coming up in the next couple of months against mandatory challenger John Ruiz (44-8-2, 30 KO’s). This will be the first defense of Haye’s title after defeating big seven foot Russian Nikolay Valuev by a 12 round majority decision in November 2009. Haye hardly looked dominating in the fight, fighting a strictly defensive-oriented bout and doing just enough to get the win over Valuev.
Haye: “The Klitschkos both hate me”
By William Mackay: World Boxing Association heavyweight champion David Haye (23-1, 21 KO’s) sounded mixed up in an interview with the Belfast Telegraph, saying this about the Klitschko brothers: “The Klitschkos both hate me and it’s not just the t-shirt [Haye is referring to the t-shirt depicting him carrying the severed heads of the Klitschko brothers that he wore to a press conference with Wladimir Klitschko]. It worked. Three hours later, 25,000 tickets had sold for the June fight.” Haye is talking about his June 20th scheduled fight with Wladimir Klitschko. Haye ended up injuring his back and was unable to make the fight with Wladimir.
Haye: “Anyone who has a title, I’m coming after them, Plain and Simple”
By Sean McDaniel: Newly crowned World Boxing Association heavyweight champion David Haye has no idea what everyone has been talking about as far as him being in preliminary talks with WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko. Haye says that he hasn’t spoken to the 38-year-old Klitschko since before Haye’s November 7th bout against previous WBA heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev. In an article with Sky Sports, Haye says “Anyone who has a title, I’m coming after them, plain and simple, The dream is still on. I have achieved my goal of becoming a world champion. Now it’s about cementing my legacy by unifying the titles and dominating the division like the greats Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, and Mike Tyson and defending my belts as many times as possible.”
Haye vs. Ruiz: The retirement or the return of the Quiet Man?
By Richard McNamara: Firstly I’d like to thank everyone who commented on my first article “Haye v Klitschko debate – setting the record straight” much appreciated and I only hope this article achieves what the last one did, and gets people talking about boxing rather than hurling abuse. I thought I would write about this subject because as we all know, John Ruiz is the mandatory challenger to WBA champion David Haye and so this fight has to happen before Haye steps anywhere near a Klitschko.
Is Haye really the heavyweight the World has been waiting for?
By Scott Gilfoid: Ever since British cruiserweight turned heavyweight David Haye captured the World Boxing Association on November 7th with a boring 12 round decision over Nikolay Valuev, I’ve been hearing how Haye is the heavyweight that the boxing world has been waiting for since Mike Tyson called it quits on his career. Unfortunately, I just do see how Haye can be the next big thing at heavyweight when he’s a runner.
DeGale comments on Haye’s victory – News
By Chris Williams: British Olympic middleweight Gold Medalist James DeGale saw newly crowned World Boxing Association heavyweight champion David Haye’s fight with seven foot Nikolay Valuev last weekend, but thought the fight was “boring” and further wasn’t impressed by the slow 36-year-old Valuev, according to The Sportlife. DeGale said “He’s [Valuev] big, but I could have knocked him beaten him.”
Will David Haye be a one-hit wonder?
By Scott Gilfoid: Since winning the World Boxing Association heavyweight title last Saturday night using a boring punch and run style over WBA champion Nikolay Valuev, the boxing world has been going nutty over David Haye.
Haye needs to focus on Ruiz rather than the Klitschko brothers
By Scott Gilfoid: In recent days, there has been a lot of talk about the big money that World Boxing Association heavyweight champion David Haye will make in a fight against one of the Klitschko brothers late in 2010. Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has even gone so far as to say that the fight would make 120 million. Personally, I think that’s a ridiculous figure and I find it hard to keep from laughing when I read that. I have no doubts that the fight would make decent money, but not anywhere near what Schaefer thinks it will be.
