Is Taylor Really Avoiding Froch?

taylor563468By Simon Hirst: Carl Froch recently hit out at Jermain Taylor for ducking a fight with him. It came after another boxing website reported that Froch was out until June with injured ribs. Froch has venomously dismissed these reports insisting he is willing to fight anyone and anywhere. It was said Taylor’s camp were looking elsewhere because of this, but surely a simple phone call to Froch’s promoter would prove that Froch is fit and raring to go.

hatton45443434WBC World Super Middleweight Champion Carl “The Cobra” Froch has directed his venom at Jermain Taylor and his team after a boxing website suggested that Froch was sidelined until June with a rib injury. Hopkins Wants Bouts With Calzaghe and Taylor

hopkins54348By Chris Williams: In yesterday’s ESPN Friday Night Fights, Bernard Hopkins (49-5-1, 32 KOs) said that he’d like to fight rematches with either Joe Calzaghe or Jermain Taylor, preferring to fight Calzaghe. “I prefer a rematch with Joe Calzaghe. If not, you have Jermain Taylor and that’s business I have to take care of,” Hopkins said. However, the chances of Hopkins fighting them would seem remote at this point and in the case of Calzaghe, probably next to zero. Hopkins will be turning 44 on January 15th, which means he doesn’t have whole lot of time to sit around and wait for fights against those two fighters.

Froch Eyeing Bouts Against Bute, Kessler and Taylor

froch34233By Eric Thomas: In an article in the TimesOnline, unbeaten super middleweight Carl Froch (24-0, 19 KOs) said that he’s interested in taking on the best in the super middleweight division, saying “I’m happy to fight the likes of Jermain Taylor or Lucian Bute or Mikkel Kessler. I don’t believe in having easy fights.” Missing from those names, however, is Joe Calzaghe, who Froch has been pursuing without success for some time.

Options For Taylor In 2009

taylor454By Jim Dower: After two consecutive losses to Kelly Pavlik, former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Jermain Taylor (28-2-1, 17 KOs) appears to be once again fighting well having moved up to the super middleweight division where he recently defeated Jeff Lacy by a 12-round unanimous decision in a WBC Super Middleweight Title Eliminator in November. At the new 168 pound weight class, Taylor looked good, not showing signs of endurance problems that have affected him in recent years in fights against Cory Spinks, Kelly Pavlik and Kassim Ouma.

Lacy-Taylor In a Career-Crossroads Fight

Image: Lacy-Taylor In a Career-Crossroads FightBy Jim Dower: Both Jermain Taylor (27-2-1, 17 KOs) and Jeff Lacy (24-1, 17 KOs) are in roughly the same boat, each of them around thirty years-old, and both coming off of a string of unimpressive performances dating back two years or more.

In Taylor’s case, it’s been three and a half years since he’s looked truly good, at which time he stopped Daniel Edouard in the 3rd round in February 2005.

Lacy Unretires, Will Be Facing Taylor After All

lacy56845.jpgBy Dan Ambrose: After a week of a so-called retirement, former IBF super middleweight champion Jeff Lacy (24-1, 17 KOs) will be coming back to fight former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Jermain Taylor (27-2-1, 17 KOs) on November 15th, in Las Vegas. Frankly, I’m not in the least surprised that Lacy is coming back, because he’s still fighting well, is popular with many boxing fans, and is still highly sought after as a potential opponent by other popular fighters. He’s also paid well for his fights, even though he doesn’t currently hold a championship belt.

Lacy, 31, is coming off another less than impressive on July 23rd against Epifanio Mendoza, in which Lacy was given a 10-round majority decision win. In the fight, Lacy was staggered several times and on one occasion, in the 8th round, he ended up tackling Mendoza to gain a little time to recover. For a moment there, it looked as if Lacy wouldn’t make it out of the round for he was badly shook from a big right hand that he took to the top of his head. Mendoza’s power was quite exceptional, and Lacy may taken on more than he bargained for by signing on to fight a dangerous puncher like Mendoza.
