McCline: Deontay Wilder is the next great; saw him give Wladimir hard work

Image: McCline: Deontay Wilder is the next great; saw him give Wladimir hard workBy Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight Jameel McCline says he sees unbeaten heavyweight prospect Deontay Wilder (25-0, 25 KO’s) as a future great after spending time with him working as sparring partners in the camp of IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko recently before his fight with Martiusz Wach.

McCline said on his twitter page “Bronzebomber [Deontay Wilder] is the next great thing. Seen him give the champ W Klitschko great work. I told him take your time. He will listen.”

McCline knows talent when he sees it, as he’s been in boxing for a long time and he’s seen a lot of different heavyweights over the years. He’s not jump complimenting Wilder for the heck of it. He speaks the truth because he knows what kind of talent Wilder has after watching him work out with Wladimir.

Klitschko sparring with Wilder and McCline to get ready for Wach

Image: Klitschko sparring with Wilder and McCline to get ready for WachBy Jason Kim: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (58-3, 50 KO’s) is well stocked with huge heavyweight sparring partners to get ready for his November 10th title defense against undefeated 6’7 1/2″ contender Mariusz Wach (27-0, 15 KO’s) at the O2 World Arena, Altona, in Hamburg, Germany. Klitschko’s sparring partners are as follows: 6’7″ Deontay Wilder, 6’6″ Jameel McCline, 6’8″ Richard Towers, 6’6″ Vladimir Tereszkin, 6’6″ Nicolai Firth and 6’9″ Yevgeny Orlov.

Those guys should get the 6’6″ Wladimir ready for the size of Wach, and definitely the power. Wilder is easily a bigger puncher than Wach, but he’s a really different fighter. That part might be hard to duplicate because Wach is kind of slow and deliberate with his punching style. I don’t know that any of the sparring partners that Wladimir has in this camp is anything like Wach. They’ll be able to prepare Wladimir for Wach’s size but not his unusual fighting style. For that, Wladimir will have to figure it out as he goes and try his best to avoid running into any of Wach’s big right hand shots.

Klitschko destroys Charr; Abdusalamov defeats McCline, looks poor

Image: Klitschko destroys Charr; Abdusalamov defeats McCline, looks poorBy Jim Dower: Unbeaten heavyweight contender Magomed Abdusalamov (16-0, 16 KO’s) survived a 1st round knockdown from 42-year-old journeyman Jameel McCline (41-14-3, 24 KO’s) to come back and stop McCline with a jab to the head in the 2nd round on Saturday night on the Vitali Klitschko vs. Manuel Charr undercard at the Olimpiyskiy, in Moscow, Russia.

In the 1st round, McCline shocked Abdusalamov by coming out fast and knocking him down with a hard right hand to the head. Abdusalamov was seriously hurt and stayed down for a long time. Had McCline not fought timidly after Abdusalamov got back to his feet he likely would have stopped him with no problems because he was hitting him with every right hand he threw.

Austin Stops Golota, McCline Decisions Mollo

Image: Austin Stops Golota, McCline Decisions MolloBy Jason Kim: In a terribly boring fight, former three-time title challenger Jameel McCline (39-9-3, 23 KOs) defeated undersized Mike Mollo (19-3, 12 KOs) by a 12-round unanimous decision in the World Boxing Council (WBC) title eliminator on Friday night at the Sichuan Gymnasium, in Chengdu, China. The final judges’ scores were 116-112, 116-111 and 114-113. McCline, now 38, has previously failed three times in title challenges against Wladimir Klitschko, Nikolay Valuev and Samuel Peter. However, with his win over Mollo, McCline is set for future title shot against Vitali Klitschko, if the Ukrainian survives his likely next fight against Juan Carlos Gomez.

McCline and Mollo did little actual fighting in the early going, choosing to wrestle and throw weak shots on the inside. McCline hardly threw any punches in rounds one through five. During the first two rounds, McCline and Mollo fought cautiously, posing a lot and appearing afraid to let their hands go.

Ruiz Decisions McCline

ruiz4643.jpgBy Dan Ambrose: Mammoth heavyweight Jameel McCline (38-9-3, 23 KOs) continued with his recent spate of bad luck tonight, losing by a lopsided 12-round unanimous decision in a WBC title eliminator. The bout was highly dull, with both fighters spending extended periods wrestling on the inside with one another. As usual, Ruiz, 36, was the superior inside fighter, and easily dominated the slower, 6’6” 268 lb. lumbering McCline. The final judges’ scores were 119-109, 118-110 and 117-111.

Unfortunately for McCline, 37, this was his third consecutive defeat, thus keeping alive his near-perfect record of losing to top tier fighters. Ruiz, who with this win becomes the mandatory for new WBC champion Samuel Peter, was able to pot shot McCline at close range. Using his jab, and close range fighting, Ruiz landed effectively at times, enough to keep McCline confused and guessing as to what would come next from the crafty Ruiz.
