Golovkin-Murray averages 862K viewers on HBO for afternoon show

1-02By Scott Gilfoid: Last Saturday’s clash between WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (32-0, 29 KOs) and Britain’s Martin Murray (29-2-1, 12 KOs) brought in less than huge ratings on HBO Championship Boxing in their fight on February 21st at the Salle des Étoiles, Monte Carlo, Monaco.

The Golovkin-Murray fight brought in an average of 862,000 viewers on HBO with a peak of 938,000. The numbers obviously weren’t huge, although the fight being broadcast during the afternoon rather than the evening probably has a lot to do with the less than huge ratings.

Golovkin’s domination of Murray could make Froch fight impossible

1-IMG_7625(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Scott Gilfoid: Last Saturday night, WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin may have unknowingly shut the door on him having any chance of getting a fight against Carl Froch by his domination of the light heavyweight-sized Martin Murray in their fight in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

In that fight, Golovkin showed that he could beat the 175+ pound fighter by his 11th round stoppage victory over Murray. If there was a chance of Golovkin ever getting a fight against Froch, he probably blew it with that performance against Murray, because Froch will likely avoid Golovkin like the plague now.

Cotto’s adviser says Cotto-Golovkin fight possible in the future

1-IMG_7290 - copia(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Dan Ambrose: Gaby Penagaricano, the adviser for WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32 KOs), says that a fight between Cotto and WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (32-0, 29 KOs) is possible in the future at some point and time.

Gaby Penagaricano doesn’t appear to be interested in making that fight for May, which is when Golovkin plans on fighting again. Golovkin destroyed Cotto’s #1 WBC contender last Saturday night in stopping him in the 11th round.

Time will tell with Gennady Golovkin

1-IMG_7049(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Dominic Panaia: As a fighter, WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (32-0, 29 KOs) is special. He possesses raw power that deserves respect. His foot work is good and his work rate is at a high standard.

I watched Golovkin’s fight with Martin Murray last Saturday night, and in my article before the fight, I stated that Murray, whilst a good fighter, lacked power and as a result Golovkin will walk through his punches and sit him down by the fifth round. It turns out that assessment was pretty close as he took a knee twice in round 4th round from some hard body shots something Gennady had been looking for in the early rounds.

Respect to Martin Murray for putting it on the line against Golovkin

1-07By Gerardo Granados: After showing great heart thru eleven rounds top contender Martin Murray (29-2-1, 12 KOs) tried his best and never quit; he fought his best but that was not enough against the Middleweight Champion of the World WBA/IBO Gennady GGG Golovkin (32-0, 29 KOs) While being way behind in the score cards the brave contender never hinted to try to surrender. When Marco Antonio Rubio was stopped he seemed to be not too hurt to not have gotten up for the count, but when Murray was down he found a way to continue.

Martin Murray did what not many have done and took Golovkin to the eleventh round, it´s true that the battle was not as competitive as I thought could be but it might be because there is not a single middle who can handle Golovkin’s punching power.

Martin Murray: I’m the second best middleweight in the world, I want Andy Lee

YouTube video

By Scott Gilfoid: After failing last Saturday night for the third time in challenging for a world title, Britain’s Martin Murray (29-2-1, 12 KOs) sees himself as the second best middleweight in the world.

The No.1 middleweight is WBA champion Gennady Golovkin (32-0, 29 KOs), who disposed of Murray in 11 rounds last Saturday night in Monte Carlo, Monaco. Murray made it to the 11th round, but he really was nothing more than a constantly moving and holding punching bag after the 2nd round.

Golovkin’s promoter says to Chavez Jr: ‘Gennady accepts that $1 million bet, sign the contract!’

1-IMG_7647By Dan Ambrose: Last night, former WBC 160 pound champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr (48-1-1, 32 KOs) took a shot at WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (32-0, 29 KOs) on his Twitter account, saying that Golovkin wouldn’t be a good fighter if he didn’t have his punching power.

Chavez Jr also bet Golovkin $1 million that he’d get knocked out by him if he were to fight him at 168 after Chavez Jr takes care of his next opponent Andrzej Fonfara (26-3, 15 KOs) on April 18th.

Martin Murray disappointed in loss to Gennady Golovkin

1-17(Photo credit: Naoki Fakuda)) By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBC Martin Murray (29-2-1, 12 KOs) tried his best last night in his title shot against WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (32-0, 29 KOs), but his best wasn’t good enough, as Golovkin bludgeoned Murray with power shots until the referee halted the fight in the 11th round at the Salle des Étoiles in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

To his credit, a bloody and battered Murray finished the fight on his feet rather than on the canvas like most of Golovkin’s foes have ended up. However, Murray failed to prove boxing fans wrong in doubting him, as he’d said he would do before the fight.

golovkin3333By Dan Ambrose: Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr (48-1-1, 32 KOs) wasn’t too impressed with WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s 11th round knockout win over Martin Murray on Saturday night in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Chavez Jr says Golovkin wouldn’t be a good fighter if he didn’t have any power. Further, Chavez Jr says that he’s willing to bet Golovkin $1 million that he’ll KO the Kazakhstan fighter if he moves up to 168 to take the fight against him.
