Rosado: Brook could get damaged by Golovkin forever

Image: Rosado: Brook could get damaged by Golovkin forever

By Scott Gilfoid: Former world title challenger Gabriel Rosado thinks it’s a bad idea that welterweight Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) is moving up in weight two divisions to challenge IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) on September 10. Rosado thinks Brook could get damaged permanently by Golovkin from a potential brutal beating that he inflicts on him.

Rosado points out that many fighters are never the same after they take a really bad beating inside the ring. With Brook moving up in weight to face one of the most dangerous punchers in the 160lb division, he’s taking big risk against Golovkin.

WBA wants Eubank Jr. to take part in tourney

eubank74

By Scott Gilfoid: In an offer that is likely to be rejected almost immediately, the World Boxing Association president Gilberto Mendoza wants #2 WBA Chris Eubank Jr. (23-1, 18 KOs) to take part in a tournament to decide an eventual opponent to fight for the WBA middleweight title, which is currently held by Gennady Golovkin.

The WBA is going to be reducing the champions in the division by ordering WBA “regular” middleweight belt holder to face WBA Super World champion Golovkin after the Kazakhstan fighters’ next match against Kell Brook on September 10. So instead of Eubank fighting Golovkin immediately, he would have to wait for him to face Jacobs.

Liam Smith plans on upsetting Canelo’s plans for GGG fight

smith765

By Dan Ambrose: WBO junior middleweight champion Liam “Beefy” Smith (23-0-1, 13 KOs) has heard all the talk about Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (47-1-1, 33 KOs) vs. Gennady “GGG” Golovkin fight in the future, but he plans on shutting down that talk permanently after he gives the Mexican fighter a defeat on September 17 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Smith says he’s going to beat Canelo, shock the boxing world, and announce himself to the U.S fans with his victory.

Canelo, 26, is seen as the clear favorite in this fight, so Smith is going to need to show the odds-makers and the fans that they were wrong to see him as the underdog in this fight. Smith isn’t surprised that he’s the underdog because he realizes that many of the fans in the States have never seen him fight before.

Crolla sees Brook having it tough against GGG

brook3

By Scott Gilfoid: WBA lightweight champion Anthony Crolla likes the talent that unbeaten welterweight Kell Brook possesses, but he believes he’s going to have a real tough fight on his hands next week in his title challenge against unbeaten IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin on September 10. Brook is moving up two weight classes to fight Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOS) at the O2 Arena in London, England.

While Brook has put on a great deal of weight and is actually out-weighing GGG at the moment, he still figures to be hopelessly over-matched when he gets inside the ring on September 10. Brook hasn’t had the right preparation to get him ready for this fight unless you consider sparring with domestic level fighter Liam Williams as preparation for Golovkin.

Golovkin 162.9, Brook 167.8 – 7-day weights

golovkin4

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) came in at 162.9 pounds for the World Boxing Council’s mandated 7-day weigh-in for his match on September 10 against challenger Kell “Special K” Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) at the O2 Arena in London, England. For his part, Brook weighed in five pounds heavier at 167.8lbs.

This is nine pounds lighter than Brook weighed during the 30-day check weigh, when he came in at 176lbs. With a week to go before the fight, it’s unlikely that Brook will be trimming much more weight off other than water weight to get down to the 160lb limit for the fight. Believe me, Brook is going to be as big as a house when he walks out there to start exchanging blows with Golovkin on September 10, so don’t be fooled by his current weight of just 167. My guess is Brook will be in the 180s when he gets in there.

This is a lot of weight that Brook is still carrying around with him. My guess is Brook is still in the mid-170s, but that he took some extra water weight off already to start the process of getting down to 160 to make weight. If Brook is weighing 176, then he would have needed to start draining down already last week to get to 160.

Canelo v GGG – The Canelo conundrum

canelo197

By David Preston: Over the last 12 months, there has been an intensifying desire to see Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin get inside the squared circle and do battle. Without question, this would be a fight every fan would want to see. Unfortunately, the politics of boxing, more specifically one man’s politics, has put the bout on hold.

By now every ardent boxing fan is aware of what has recently transpired between the camps of both fighters. From the name dropping to the tough post-fight talk to the promised good-faith negotiations to the senseless relinquishing of the WBC belt and so on. It is now abundantly clear that something is amiss.

Golovkin: Canelo is scared to fight

golovkin1

By Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) says he thinks Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (47-1-1, 33 KOs), who he sees as Golden Boy Promotions’ “Golden child” is afraid to fight him, and he thinks he’s not going to fight him in September of 2017 like he was led to believe.

Instead, Golovkin feels that Canelo will choose to give him a low-ball offer of $2 million for the fight. When Golovkin fails to agree to the offer, Canelo will tell say to the media that GGG didn’t accept the offer that was given to him.

Golovkin says that Canelo will then move on and fight someone like Antonio Margarito or Manny Pacquiao. Golovkin sees the fight against Canelo bring put off for another three more years, possibly as long as five more years. He sees Canelo making him wait a long, long time before he finally agrees to fight him.

Will Brook’s training help him against Golovkin?

golovkin4

By Scott Gilfoid: In a sign of pure desperation, Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) has turned to cutting edge training at Sheffield Hallam University to try and help him beat the devastating knockout artist Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) in their fight next week on September 10 at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

The clinicians at Hallam University have the 30-year-old Brook using a variety of exercises to try and increase his stamina and strength ahead of his fight against the Kazakhstan fighter Triple G this month. And while Golovkin has stayed true to his old school training methods used my his trainer Abel Sanchez in the mountains at Big Bear, California, Brook is trying new age techniques to try and best GGG.

I don’t know that Brook is anymore ahead of the game with his new training methods than he would have been had he stuck with his past training regimen. When it’s all been said and done, Brook has probably been doing little more than spinning his wheels by messing about at Sheffield’s Hallam University with his extra training.

Leonard: Kell Brook needs to prove the doubters wrong

brook7

By Scott Gilfoid: It seems like the boxing world is giving Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) very little chance of beating IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (35-0, 32 Kos), and you can add the great former world champion Sugar Ray Leonard among the doubters who don’t think “Special K” is talented enough to get the job done on September 10.

Like many other people, Leonard is skeptical about Brook having the mental and physical fortitude to take the big power shots to the body and head from Golovkin for 12 long rounds on the night. Leonard says that Brook needs to prove people wrong by going out there and getting the job done against Triple G.

Golovkin-Book: Kell has solid chance of beating Triple G

Image: Golovkin-Book: Kell has solid chance of beating Triple G

By Earl E: Most people who follow boxing are counting out Kell Brook in his fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin on September 10 at the O2 Arena in London, England. However, if you were to evaluate your prediction, based on how judges score rounds, you may think otherwise. Of course, this analysis is based on Brook surviving the 12 rounds against the knockout artist, Gennady Golovkin.

I believe Brook has a solid chance in making it through the 12 rounds to hear a decision, because Brook has fought 11 out of 36 fights for a decision, or 31% of his fights went to decision. On the other hand, Golovkin has fought 35 fights and only 3 went to decision, for a low 9%.
