Sanchez: Golovkin could go down to 154 for Pacquiao

golovkin633

By Chris Williams: Trainer Abel Sanchez says middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin could do down to 154 to accommodate welterweight Manny Pacquiao for a fight if his promoter was serious about wanting to make that fight. Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum recently floated the idea of a fight between Pacquiao and Golovkin if Pacquiao wins his title fight against WBO 147lb champion Jessie Vargas this Saturday night at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Arum initially said Golovkin was a possibility for Pacquiao. However, Arum then backtracked and said he wasn’t serious about putting Pacquiao in with Golovkin. That’s not surprising, because there’s a potential for injury for Pacquiao if he were to take on a guy with the kind of power that Golovkin possesses.

Pacquiao says Golovkin-Brook convinced him to continue career

1-o2arena-golovkin-brook-56

By Scott Gilfoid: The Gennady “GGG” Golovkin vs. Kell Brook fight from last September was the reason why former eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao decided to come out of retirement and resume his boxing career. Pacquiao says he normally doesn’t watch fights, but in this case he decided to see the Golovkin-Brook contest.

Pacquiao says he saw things from that fight that he felt that the 30-year-old Brook should have been doing for him to have a chance against the hard hitting Triple G. Pacquiao specifically felt that Brook should have countered more rather than trying to slug with Golovkin.

People want Golovkin to move up to avoid Canelo says Marquez

golovkin633

By Dan Ambrose: Mexican star Juan Manuel Marquez says there are people who specifically want IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin to move up in weight to the super middleweight division (168) so that he can avoid fighting Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

Marquez doesn’t say who the people are that want Golovkin to move up in weight, but in the media there are a number of fighters and ex-fighters that want Golovkin to move up to 168 and 175. Marquez doesn’t see any point in Golovkin moving up in weight if he’s still comfortable at fighting at 160.

De La Hoya: Golovkin is running from Canelo

1-o2arena-golovkin-brook-131

By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya says champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin might not realize how much money that was offered to him for a fight a against Golden Boy star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. According got De La Hoya, it’s Golovkin that is running from Canelo and not the other way around. De La Hoya is referring to the eight-figure offer that Golden Boy made to Golovkin’s promoters for a fight against Canelo in September 2017. De La Hoya feels that if Golovkin isn’t concerned with money, then he’ll take the fight with Canelo.

In other news, appears that the reported $10 million flat fee offer that has been made to Golovkin from Golden Boy is not going to be increased. If Golovkin wants the fight, then he’ll need to accept that offer. If not, then Golden Boy will take Canelo in another direction towards other fighters.

Golovkin should accept $10M offer for Canelo fight

golovkin633

By Chris Williams: Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez reportedly is not going budge from the $10 million offer his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions are offering unbeaten middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin for a fight next September in 2017 on HBO pay-per-view.

Canelo is one of those types of fighters that when he makes his mind up, you’re probably not going to change it no matter what. In that case, Golovkin has a choice to make. He can either accept the $10 million guaranteed offer or he can move on and continue to fight guys like Dominic Wade for smaller money.

Schaefer says Canelo-Golovkin should happen

schaefer

By Dan Ambrose: Former Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer says he would have ABSOLUTELY have made the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs. Gennady “GGG” Golovkin fight by now if he was still the guy controlling the levers at Golden Boy. Schaefer does not understand why the Canelo-Golovkin fight hasn’t been made by now, because he feels that a win for Canelo would take him to the next level in terms of pay-per-view buys.

Schaefer feels that Canelo’s pay-per-view numbers would go from an average of 250,000 that we’re seeing now to over 1 million buys for EVERY fight from that point on. A loss for Canelo to Golovkin wouldn’t hurt the Mexican star, says Schaefer. He thinks Canelo wouldn’t lose fans at all if he got beat by Golovkin, because he’d still be Canelo.

Golovkin may need to move to 175 says Roach

1-o2arena-golovkin-brook-52

By Dan Ambrose: It’s widely known that middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin is having problems getting the top middleweights to fight him right now. There are only three fighters – Saul Canelo Alvarez, Daniel Jacobs and Billy Joe Saunders that are worth fighting right now at 160 for Triple G.

It might take Golovkin years to get all or some of them to fight him. Trainer Freddie Roach feels that Golovkin should move up to the light heavyweight division (175) in order for him to get better fights and more recognition in the boxing world.

DeGale: I see weakness in Golovkin

James DeGale vs Rogelio Medina

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale (23-1, 14 KOs) is looking past his scheduled unification fight against WBC champion Badou Jack (20-1-2, 12 KOs) towards a much desired fight on his part against the talented IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) that he’s hoping to get in 2017. DeGale still has a fight against Badou on January 17 he needs to get past first in the U.S, and there’s no telling how that match will wind up.

Golovkin hasn’t spoken of wanting to move up to 168 to fight the likes of DeGale or Badou Jack. There has been talk from WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez’s promoter Bob Arum of him wanting to match his fighter against Golovkin in 2017, but there’s no real interest in his part in taking the fight due to Ramirez not being a big name in the U.S.
