By Dan Ambrose: Undefeated featherweight contender Gary Russell Jr. (18-0, 10 Ko’s) easily beat Leonilo Miranda by a one-sided eight round unanimous decision last Saturday night on the undercard of the Andre Berto vs. Jan Zaveck fight at the Beau Rivage Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi.
Abregu Stops Garcia, Dirrell Destroys Quiroz, More – Boxing Results
By Eric Thomas: Talented but deeply flawed Argentinian welterweight contender Carlos Abregu (27-0, 22 KOs) stopped Puerto Rican Irving Garcia (17-4-3, 8 KOs) in the 4th round of a scheduled 10-round bout tonight at the Chumash Casino & Resort, in Santa Ynez, California. Abregu, 26, struggled in the early going and was knocked down by the light hitting Garcia in both the 1st and the 4th rounds. Abregu, a big puncher, rallied in the 4th round and knocked Garcia down. The fight was then stopped at 2:59 of the 4th round by referee Jack Reiss.
Russell Too Much For Reyes
By Jim Dower: Featherweight prospect Gary Russell Jr. (1-0, 1 KOs) made a successful start to his pro career, defeating Antonio Reyes (3-3) by a third round TKO on Friday night at the Million Dollar Elm Casino, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Russell, 20, a two-time U.S National amateur champion and a 2008 Olympian, dropped a badly over-matched Reyes at the end of the 2nd round and finished him off with a flurry of shots at the start of the 3rd, causing referee Steve Smoger to stop the bout at 0:21 of the round.
