Abregu Stops Garcia, Dirrell Destroys Quiroz, More – Boxing Results

By Eric Thomas: Talented but deeply flawed Argentinian welterweight contender Carlos Abregu (27-0, 22 KOs) stopped Puerto Rican Irving Garcia (17-4-3, 8 KOs) in the 4th round of a scheduled 10-round bout tonight at the Chumash Casino & Resort, in Santa Ynez, California. Abregu, 26, struggled in the early going and was knocked down by the light hitting Garcia in both the 1st and the 4th rounds. Abregu, a big puncher, rallied in the 4th round and knocked Garcia down. The fight was then stopped at 2:59 of the 4th round by referee Jack Reiss.

Russell Too Much For Reyes

russell3233By Jim Dower: Featherweight prospect Gary Russell Jr. (1-0, 1 KOs) made a successful start to his pro career, defeating Antonio Reyes (3-3) by a third round TKO on Friday night at the Million Dollar Elm Casino, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Russell, 20, a two-time U.S National amateur champion and a 2008 Olympian, dropped a badly over-matched Reyes at the end of the 2nd round and finished him off with a flurry of shots at the start of the 3rd, causing referee Steve Smoger to stop the bout at 0:21 of the round.
