Roach: Pacquiao is going to push a much faster pace against Marquez

Image: Roach: Pacquiao is going to push a much faster pace against MarquezBy Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach thinks he’s come up with the strategy for his fighter Manny Pacquiao to conclusively beat Mexican warrior Juan Manuel Marquez on December 8th without controversy this time. Roach says he’s going to have Pacquiao fight at an incredibly fast pace like he did in his first fight with Marquez back in 2004 when Pacquiao was 25. He’s now about to turn 34, and it’s debatable whether Pacquiao can realize Roach’s vision.

Roach said “We [Pacquiao] plan to fight the fight at a much faster pace this time like we did in the first fight [in 2004] in the early rounds. That’s where we had the most success.”

Roach gushing about Cleverly, says he wants to train him

Image: Roach gushing about Cleverly, says he wants to train himBy Scott Gilfoid: WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly (24-0, 11 KO’s) reportedly came over to the Freddie Roach’s Wildcard gym and sparred a bit with unbeaten world contender Lateef Kayode and apparently did a reasonable job during the sparring session. Roach now says he wouldn’t mind having Cleverly as one of his fighters in his training stable.

Speaking with the BBC Sport, Roach said “I wouldn’t hesitate to take him on. He’s definitely talented. I’ve love to have him. We haven’t discussed him coming over here yet but he’s here and maybe there’s a reason why he is here.”

Roach gives Pacquiao a controversial order

Image: Roach gives Pacquiao a controversial orderBy Mark Havey: Manny Pacquiao is set to face his arch rival, Juan Manuel Marquez for the 4th time. The first three have been spectacular and placed doubt in the minds of many. Some say Marquez should have won all three, others say the results have been accurate and Pacquiao has done better over the three fights.

Pacquiao’s last fight will surely be remembered as the upset of 2012 after he was beaten by Timothy Bradley on points. Like most people I don’t see how Bradley won that fight. Pacquiao was so evidently the winner, that the boxing world was left outraged. But enough has been written about that. One thing is clear, Pacquiao needs to do well in his next fight.

Image: Roach: Pacquiao has to move constantly against Marquez to winBy Chris Williams: Freddie Roach seems to think he’s got the golden plan that will help his fighter Manny Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KO’s) finally conclusively beat 39-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1, 39 KO’s) after having failed to establish that he’s the better guy in their three previous fights together.

Roach still insisting that Pacquiao needs KO to beat Marquez

By Chris Williams: In what appears to be trainer Freddie Roach trying some reverse psychology he’s been saying lately that the only way that his fighter Manny Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KO’s) can win his December 8th fight against Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1, 39 KO’s) is if he knocks him out. The reason that Roach is saying this is because he feels that the judges will be looking to slant their scores to Marquez because of the perception that he’s been jobbed in all three fights with Pacquiao.

Image: Khan takes shot at Roach: We didn't focus on defense as muchBy William Mackay: Amir Khan says he and his former trainer Freddie Roach are still good friends even after Khan recently let Roach go because he wasn’t happy with how training was going. However, that’s not stopping Khan from pointing out what he feels were Roach’s limitations as a trainer.

Khan said to Sky Sports News “The focus wasn’t there [on defensive] as much and we kept on doing the same things in the gym, and that is probably why a lot of fighters that I fought knew exactly what I was going to do.”
