Holyfield vs. Williams on January 22nd for $29.95 on PPV

By Jason Kim: Former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield (43-10-2, 28 KO’s) will return to action on January 22nd against 38-year-old Sherman Williams (34-11-2, 19 KO’s) in a scheduled 10 round bout at The Greenbrier, White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Incredibly, the asking price for this pay-per-view bout will be $29.95. That number is kind of shocking given how old, depleted and average Holyfield is looking in recent years.

48-year-old Holyfield faces 45-year-old Brian Nielsen on March 5th

By Eric Thomas: Former two division world champion Evander Holyfield (43-10-2, 28 KO’s) will be back in action on March 5th to take on 45-year-old Danish heavyweight Brian Nielsen (64-2, 43 KO’s) on March 5th in a still to be determined location in Denmark. Nielsen hasn’t fought in eight years, and that alone makes this fight somewhat of a farce. It’s obviously just a money fight for Holyfield, but it’s more than a little disappointing if you were hoping that Holyfield was going to take on a top level fighter so that he could move forward with his goal of trying to capture all the heavyweight titles before retiring.

The fight, which was supposed to have taken place at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan, had already been postponed twice on November 5th and November 12th. There’s no reason given why the fight has been canceled, but the previous cancellations were due to poor ticket sales.

Should all the sanctioning bodies give Holyfield honorary titles so that he can retire?

By Jason Kim: 48-year-old Evander Holyfield (43-10-2, 28 KO’s) is still fighting after an incredible 26-years as a professional fighter. He’s sticking around because he has a goal of capturing all four of the world heavyweight titles before he retires. This has been Holyfield’s impossible goal for some time now, and it doesn’t appear that he’s getting any closer to accomplishing it. Indeed, Holyfield is looking worse and worse as the years go by. Currently, Holyfield has lost two out of his last three fights and at this point, he’s probably going to have to work his way into a heavyweight title shot the hard way by actually beating some top contenders. Since that seems to be all but impossible, I’m wondering if Holyfield would wrap up his fading career if all the sanctioning bodies agree to give him a honorary heavyweight title so that he could ride away into the sunset with these titles in his possession.

Holyfield thinks the Klitschkos and Haye need to fight him if they want a big fight

Image: Holyfield thinks the Klitschkos and Haye need to fight him if they want a big fightBy Matt Stein: Along Roy Jones Jr. wanting a piece of the Klitschko brothers, former two division world champion Evander Holyfield (43-10-2, 28 KO’s) wants a piece of the brothers and/or WBA heavyweight champion David Haye. Holyfield, who just turned 48 on October 19th, thinks Haye and the Klitschkos can make a big fight if they fight each other or if they fight him. He thinks the money is low against the other heavyweight contenders.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Holyfield says “I have a goal, and they [the Klitschko brothers and Haye] have the belts that I need to retire. Now if I can get they belts, retire, then they can come back and get them back. Anything worth having, someone else have it. You just got to go and wrestle it from them. Other than being a champion, your history comes off how much money you did you make when you was the champion. So when you look at the Klitschkos, and David Haye, the money is low.

Holyfield thinks Mayweather will lose more standing than Pacquiao if he loses their match-up

By Jason Kim: Former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield believes that Manny Pacquiao will come off better compared to Floyd Mayweather Jr. if he gets beaten by Mayweather in their proposed fight in May 2011. In an article at Detnews.com, the 48-year-old Holyfield said “Of course it benefits Pacquiao more because if he loses [to Mayweather] nobody will think anything because he’s a nice guy. But because Mayweather made things harder by bragging, if he loses, it kind of puts him back real far and maybe make people think he’s not as great as he says he is.”

Holyfield thinks Pacquiao-Mayweather Jr. is a toss-up fight

Image: Holyfield thinks Pacquiao-Mayweather Jr. is a toss-up fightBy Dave Lahr: Former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield believes that World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. bout is a “toss-up.” In an interview at 8countnews.com, Holyfield says “On paper, you always give it to Mayweather, but on personal ability and in a guy that fights through and through, you would say Pacquiao. This is what makes this fight a toss up.” Holyfield has always been a brawler during his great boxing career, and for that reason it’s not surprising that he’s siding with Pacquiao, who is also a brawler in the same mold as Holyfield.
