Erik Morales vs. Jorge Rodrigo Barrios: Which one of these guys is more shot than the other?

By Dan Ambrose: Former three division world champion Erik Morales (50-6, 35 KO’s) will be defending his obscure WBC Silver light welterweight title against 34-year-old Jorge Rodrigo Barrios (50-4-1, 35 KO’s) on December 18th at the Caliente Racetrack, in Tijuana, Mexico. This is one of those fights which match two fighters that are on the steep decline in their careers and the only question is which fighter is more shot than other. Morales, 34, has looked horrid in his two-fight comeback in 2010.

Erik Morales vs. Jorge Barrios on December 18th

By Jason Kim: Former three division world champion Erik Morales (50-6, 35 KO’s) will continue his comeback on December 18th against former World Boxing Organization super featherweight champion Jorge Barrios (50-4-1, 35 KO’s) in a 12 round bout at the Caliente Racetrack, in Tijuana, Mexico. Morales, 34, will be defending his obscure WBC Silver light welterweight title against Barrios, and this is a fight where Barrios would have to move up in weight from the lightweight division to fight Morales for his WBC Silver light welterweight title. Morales has looked awful in his two fights back since coming off of a two year retirement.

Erik Morales fighting on December 18th, hoping to get Juan Manuel Marquez in 2011

By Jason Kim: Former three division world champion Erik Morales (50-6, 36 KO’s) will see action once again coming up on December 18th against a still to be determined opponent at the Caliente Racetrack, in Tijuana, Mexico. The fight will likely be shown on Showtime in a split event card with the WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal vs. Bernard Hopkins. Morales, 34, then, if successful in the 12/18 fight, would like to fight WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez in 2011. The World Boxing Council currently has Morales ranked at number #2 in the light welterweight division, which an incredibly good ranking given that Morales has looked positively horrible in his two fights since coming off of a three year retirement in 2010.

Morales-Limond: Is Willie good enough to end Erik’s comeback?

By Peter Wells: Mexican fighters have high expectations of themselves and most can’t get rid of that hunger to succeed. They may already be legends but fighting can never stop for them. Erik Morales (49-6, 34 KO’s) believes he can come back and still be a world champion. But after 3 years out the ring and only 1 fight since then against an easy Jose Alfaro, it’s more likely he’s got worse since retiring. If that is the case then it isn’t good news more Morales. He ended his career with 4 straight defeats against Zahir Raheem, Manny Pacquiao twice and David Diaz. Both the Pacquiao fights ended early. His other two defeats were both to Marco Antonio Barrera both on points.

Schaefer says Khan or Katsidis are next for Marquez and then maybe Erik Morales

By William Mackay: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer says that either World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) or WBO lightweight interim champion Michael Katsidis (27-2, 22 KO’s) are going to be next for WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (51-5-1, 37 KO’s), according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. Schaefer says “The two most logical opponents [for Marquez] are Khan or Katsidis. It depends on the weight he [Marquez] wants to fight at.” Marquez, 36, would be asking a lot of himself to move up to 140 and face the lanky 5’10” Khan.
