The fight had a highly controversial early end to the 1st round where the times keeper stopped the round 47 seconds early just after Maccarinelli had been badly hurt and floored by a big left hook from McPhilin.

By Sean McDaniel: In a very controversial fight, former WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli survived a 1st round knockdown in a shortened round to come back to defeat British cruiserweight champion Shane McPhilin by a 12 round unanimous decision on Friday night at the Civic Hall in Wolverhampton, West Midlands, UK. The final judges’ scores were 115-111, 116-111 and 115-111, all for Maccarinelli.

Maccarinelli has been fighting at light heavyweight recently after suffering a string of bad knockout losses to big punchers in the cruiserweight division. Thus far, Maccarinelli has done well at light heavyweight but he wants to pick up the British cruiserweight title because it’s something he’s always wanted to do but never got around to it.
