By Eric Thomas: WBO middleweight champion Dmitry Pirog (19-0, 15 KO’s) has decided to take a soft defense against #9 WBO contender Nobuhiro Ishida (24-7-2, 9 KO’s) on May 1st at the Sport Complex Krylastskoe, in Moscow, Russia. Although the 36-year-old Ishida is ranked high enough for Pirog to face him for his optional defense, you’d still have liked to have seen the World Boxing Organization say no to sanctioning this fight given that Ishida was easily beaten in his last fight by Paul Williams last February.

Pirog-Ishida: Another easy defense for Dmitry
By Dan Ambrose: WBO middleweight champion Dmitry Pirog (19-0, 15 KO’s) is really making a name for himself. It’s too bad the name he’s making isn’t one that a lot boxing fans are happy with, as the 31-year-old Pirog has been taking it easy ever since he won the World Boxing Organization title on July 31st against Daniel Jacobs.
Pirog defends WBO title against Ishida on 5/1
By Jason Kim: WBO middleweight champion Dmitry Pirog (19-0, 15 KO’s) has been a disappointing champion in the eyes of some boxing fans since he won the vacant WBO title against Daniel Jacobs in July 2010. It was thought then that Pirog would go after the biggest names or at the very least defend the title against recognizable and well respected opposition.
Dmitry Pirog to defend WBO title against Nobuhiro Ishida on May 1st
By Dan Ambrose: In yet another disappointing title defense, WBO middleweight champion Dmitry Pirog (19-0, 15 KO’s) will be making his third defense of his World Boxing Organization title next month on May 1st against #9 WBO Nobuhiro Ishida (24-7-2, 9 KO’s) at the Sport Complex Krylatskoe, in Moscow, Russia. For boxing fans hoping to see the 31-year-old Pirog step it up against better opposition, this is probably going to be bad news for them.
Hearn working on Barker vs. Pirog fight for HBO
By Sean McDaniel: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn revealed on Sky Ringside the other night that he’s in deep talks with WBO middleweight champion Dmitriy Pirog’s management in setting up a clash between Hearn’s fighter middleweight contender Darren Barker (23-1, 14 KO’s) and Pirog (19-0, 15 KO’s) for a fight that would take place on HBO. I think it would be a good fight for both guys.

By Scott Gilfoid: Eddie Hearn, the promoter for British middleweight contender Darren Barker (23-1, 14 KO’s) has big things planned for the 29-year-old Barker in 2012. Barker, #8 IBF, #10 WBC, recently was beaten by WBC Diamond middleweight champion Sergio Martinez by a 11th round knockout last October.
Jermain Taylor already looks good enough to beat Chavez Jr., Sturm, Pirog and Geale
By William Mackay: 33-year-old former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Jermain Taylor (29-4-1, 18 KO’s) returned to the ring last night and showed little signs of rust in stopping Jessie Nicklow (22-3-3, 8 KO’s) in the 8th round of a scheduled 10 round bout at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa in Cabazon, California.

Bute targeting Quillin, Dirrell, Johnson and Pirog for his next fight
By Dan Ambrose: Having just lost a potential fight against former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik for his next fight, IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute is targeting some more middleweights and is looking at trying to land a fight against Peter Quillin or Dmitriy Pirog. The chances aren’t good at getting Quillin to take the fight, because he’s now fighting at middleweight and probably wouldn’t want to move back up in weight to face the dangerous Bute.
