Deontay Wilder ready to defeat Wladimir Klitschko

deontay73By Scott Gilfoid: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (33-0, 32 KOs) feels he’s ready to defeat IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (63-3, 53 KOs) and take the big 6’6” Ukrainian fighter’s four world titles.

Wilder notes that Wladimir is older now and he’s ready be picked off. Wladimir will be turning 39-years-old this month on March 25th, and by the time Wladimir and Deontay face each other in 2016, Wladimir will likely be 40-years-old. Deontay will be hitting his stride while Wladimir will likely be showing more age.

Deontay Wilder to Tyson Fury: Don’t go the Klitschko route, go my route!

wilder4By Scott Gilfoid: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (33-0, 32 KOs) says he really wants a fight against Britain’s Tyson Fury (24-0, 18 KOs) so he can be the first one to give the 6’9” Brit a defeat. Deontay isn’t too happy that Fury has decided to go after IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko’s titles rather than him.

Wilder doesn’t want Fury to face Wladimir for more than one reason. Wilder obviously wants the Fury fight first due to the huge attention and the money the fight would make.

Tony Thompson wants to beat Joshua, then Deontay Wilder

thompson3By Scott Gilfoid: Before he gets a hoped for third world title fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, #14 WBC Tony Thompson (40-5, 27 KOs) wants to beat Olympic medalists Anthony Joshua (10-0, 10 KOs) of Britain, and WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (33-0, 32 KOs) in back to back fights.

Thompson thinks Joshua still needs more schooling and that’s why he wants to face him first before he gets to Wilder and Klitschko. Thompson is impressed with the 6’6” Joshua’s skills, and he sees a bright future ahead of the heavily muscled Brit.

The 6’5” Thompson feels that Joshua isn’t ready for the lesson he’s going to give him.

Deontay Wilder to fight in June, says trainer

deontay73By Scott Gilfoid: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (33-0, 32 KOs) expects to be back in the ring in the next three months against an opponent still to be determined in June. Deontay, 6’7”, had been hoping to get a fight against Britain’s Tyson Fury, but unfortunately Fury is opting to fight IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko instead.

Fury hopes that fight will take place later this year in September, but it’s still up in the air whether that fight will take place at that time. It’s possible Fury could wind up waiting a little longer.

Tyson Fury prefers Klitschko fight rather than Deontay Wilder

fury664By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight contender Tyson Fury (23-0, 17 KOs) says he still prefers to face IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko later this year rather than face WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (33-0, 32 KOs) in a fight that would likely come a lot quicker than the Klitschko fight.

Wilder would likely face the 6’9” Fury next if he could get the British fighter to agree to the fight, but since he’s interested in facing Wladimir instead, Wilder has to look in another direction for his next fight.

McGuigan: Tyson Fury has every chance against Deontay Wilder, but not Klitschko

wilder4By Scott Gilfoid: Barry McGuigan believes that WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (33-0, 32 KOs) is someone that unbeaten Tyson Fury can beat if and when that fight takes place in the future.

McGuigan says Fury needs to make a statement in his next fight against Christian Hammer (17-3, 10 KOs) this month on February 28th at the O2 Arena in London, United Kingdom. I’m not sure what kind of statement that Fury can make against a fighter of this class, because Hammer struggled badly to defeat journeyman Kevin Johnson in their fight in December of 2013.

The fall of the great Heavyweights

YouTube video

By Dominic Panaia: The sports world knows all too well that the mid 30’s are something to dread, most sportsmen don’t see the natural progression towards the decline in their bodies until it lets them down when most needed. As critics and fans we tend to see it long before the fighter does but we fail to believe it until we see our hero’s not come out for the next bell. For some like George Foreman, Bernard Hopkins and company it is not a problem but for many others it’s far too early.

This brings us to the question of how the advisers and trainers in today’s boxing world handle their future prospects. We can take a look at Deontay Wilder where he sits in his career and how he compares to some of the greats of the heavyweight division.

Klitschko’s manager: Fury first for Wladimir, then Deontay Wilder

deontay443By Scott Gilfoid: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (33-0, 32 KOs) is going to need to wait a while before he gets a shot at capturing all of IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko’s numerous titles, because Klitschko’s manger Bernd Bonte is saying that they want Britain’s Tyson Fury first after the April 25th fight against Bryant Jennings followed by the 6’7” Wilder later on in the year.

Of course, that will require for Wladimir to beat both Jennings and Fury to get to Wilder. I mean, there’s no way that Wladimir will get the fight against Deontay if Wladimir gets blasted out by Jennings or Fury; not that I see him losing to either of those guys, but there’s always the possibility that he could lose to one of them.

Manuel Charr a good option for Deontay Wilder’s first title defense

charr2By Scott Gilfoid: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (33-0, 32 KOs) likely won’t get a chance at fighting either Tyson Fury or Wladimir Klitschko in his fight as the World Boxing Council champion.

Wladimir is already scheduled to fight on April 25th against American Bryant Jennings, and he’s likely going to need months to recover from that fight. As for Fury, we already know that he’s not truly interested in fighting Deontay next, because he wants to wait on the Wladimir fight.

Fury would rather face Wladimir rather than Wilder, which I can understand given the danger involved in facing the 6’7” Wilder.
