Shannon Briggs: I’ll knock Deontay Wilder out

wilder4By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs (57-6-1, 50 KOs) is talking about him facing IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO strap holder Wladimir Klitschko later this year in September. Klitschko will be 39-years-old by the time that fight takes place, and Briggs, 43, figures to beat him and then face WBC champion Deontay Wilder (33-0, 32 KOs) in a unification match that would likely bring in big numbers in the United States.

Briggs thinks he’ll not only beat the 6’7” Wilder, but knock him out in the process. I mean, it’s going to be tough as it is for Briggs to get past Wladimir, but if he can do that, he’s really going to have his work cut out for him against the hard-hitting Deontay.

Deontay Wilder fought through pain to defeat Stiverne

deontay73By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight Deontay Wilder (33-0, 32 KOs) admits that he felt pain from his fractured right hand each time he would slam a right hand into the face of WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne (24-2-1, 21 KOs) in their fight earlier this month on January 17th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Wilder broke the 4th metacarpal bone in his right hand in the fourth round after hitting Stiverne with shot that landed near the top of his head. From that point on, Wilder says he had to fight with pain each time he used his right hand.

Deontay Wilder: Doing it for America

wilder4By Abbas Dadhiwala: The heavyweight scene in America has been in the doldrums, no American heavyweight has held a version of the World title since Shannon Briggs was WBO champion. It has been long wait for American to find a World Champion but Deontay Wilder has stepped up to the plate and been crowned WBC world champion.

Everyone can remember the epic fights between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier, namely the ‘Thrilla In Manila,’ widely regarded as the greatest heavyweight fight of all time. ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ is another fight that has been etched into the memory of boxing fans across the world with Muhammad Ali a heavy underdog coming through against big George Foreman. Buster Douglas’s demolition of Tyson in Tokyo was another landmark boxing fight that is remembered as the night the baddest man on the planet was tamed. The common theme in all of these fights was they all included American fighters.

The heavyweights: The division is heating up!

wilder4By John Stevens: Never before can I remember a time when things have looked so exciting in the heavyweight division. All manner of hungry lions are coming through the pack and, providing the managers and promoters get their acts together, we will be seeing some spectacular contests in the immediate future. Let’s have a look at the division now and see just what we have.

WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO

The shadow of this great champion looms large over everybody here and it’s very doubtful that anyone is going to be able to defeat the man before he retires. When he does retire, which surely must be within the next couple of years, then he will have left behind a quite incredible boxing legacy and will be remembered as one of the all time great heavyweights.

Tyson Fury to Deontay Wilder: “I’ll rip your heart out and feed it to you, chump!”

fury9173By Scott Gilfoid: Former Commonwealth heavyweight strap holder Tyson Fury (23-0, 17 KOs) was standing on his hind legs today in yapping at WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (33-0, 32 KOs) from the safety of his computer many miles away from the hard hitting Wilder in calling him out for a fight that Fury presumably would like to see take place in 2015.

Fury says he wants to face the 6’7” Wilder and he sees himself tearing the unbeaten American apart if given the chance.

Tyson Fury: I’ll fight Deontay Wilder next if the money is right

fury6By Scott Gilfoid: Tyson Fury (23-0, 17 KOs) says he’ll face WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (33-0, 32 KOs) next if the money is to his liking for the fight, although Fury is still leaning in the direction of facing IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in the near future if Fury gets past #3 WBO Christian Hammer (17-3, 10 KOs) on February 28th.

Fury figures that he’s worked so hard and chased Klitschko so long that he might as well face him.

Bryant Jennings is not going to beat Wladimir Klitschko, says Wilder

jennings4534By Allan Fox: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder spoke the obvious in giving his estimation of the slender, non-punching Bryant Jennings’ chances of beating IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (63-3, 53 KOs) in their fight on April 25th at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Wilder thinks the 6’3”, 225 pound Jennings is too weak and short to be able to deal with the power and the reach of the 6’6” Klitschko. But interestingly enough, Jennings has a long reach than Wladimir by three inches so it’s possible in theory that Jennings could have some success in at least making contact with Wladimir.

Tyson Fury willing to fight Deontay Wilder next rather than Hammer

wilder092(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBO Tyson Fury (23-0, 17 KOs) says he’s willing to face WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (33-0, 32 KOs) next rather than take his stay busy fight against Christian Hammer next month on February 28th. The fight is doable because Fury would then wait until the summer to face Wilder, who will need to sit out until then while his fractured hand heals.

British promoter Frank Warren, who works with Fury, is interested in setting up the Fury vs. Wilder fight next if he can get Wilder to agree to the fight this week.
