Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury exchange words

WILDER SZPILKA-FIGHT NIGHT-01162016-1875(Photo credit: Stephanie Trapp/SHOWTIME) By Scott Gilfoid: Britain’s Tyson Fury crashed the talented WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder’s fight against Artur Szpilka (20-2, 15 KOs) on Saturday night, showing up inside the ring moments after Deontay had smashed Spilka into the canvas after knocking him unconscious with a peach of a right hand in round 9 at the beautiful Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The 6’9” Fury started immediately mouthing off until Deontay put him in his proper place and dismissed him from the ring by telling him that he’ll give him a nice baptism. Fury was lucky Deontay didn’t lose his temper and give him the Szpilka treatment. If Deontay had hauled off and belted the 6’9″ Fury in his gob, they might have needed an extra-sized stretcher to take Fury out of the ring. I’m just saying.

Deontay Wilder stops Artur Szpilka in 9th!

wilder230By Dan Ambrose: Fighting in front of a huge crowd of 12,668, WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (36-0, 35 KOs) scored a devastating 9th round knockout win over #8 WBC challenger Artur Szpilka (20-2, 15 KOs) to retain his WBC title in a close fight on Showtime Championship Boxing at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Wilder timed Szpilka and connected with a huge right hand in the 9th round to knock Szpilka clean out. The punch flattened Szpilka, leaving him on his back on the canvas for a considerable amount of time. Szpilka had tried to throw a left hand at the same time Wilder threw his right. Wilder’s shot got there first and he knocked the Polish fighter senseless. Szpilka was taken out of the ring on a stretcher.

Purses: Wilder $1.5M, Szpilka $250K; Glazkov $524K, Martin $250K

WILDER VS SZPILKA-WEIGH IN-01152015-9746By Allan Fox: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34 KOs) won’t be getting the big money tonight that we saw from welterweight stars Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao last year with them both making huge money, but he will get a nice paycheck all the same.

Wilder will be getting $1.5 million for his fight against challenger Artur Szpilka (20-1, 15 KOs) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Szpilka will be getting considerably less at $250,000. However, Szpilka will be getting extra Polish television money that will bump up his payday.

Szpilka talks about altercation with Deontay Wilder at photo op

1-ARTUR SZPILKA-WEIGH IN-01152015-9913By Scott Gilfoid: A couple days ago, 26-year-old Polish native Artur Szpilka (20-1, 15 KOs) was involved in an altercation that nearly came to blows with WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34 KOs) in at the World Trade Center in Manhattan, New York. While boxing fans believe it was a staged altercation between the two fighters, it doesn’t appear anything was faked between the two.

Szpilka came in close to Deontay when he was trash talking him, and then made the mistake of ramming his head against Deontay. This caused Deontay to take a swipe at Szpilka, which thankfully didn’t lead to an injury for either fighter. It did show that you don’t want to mess around with Deontay, because he’s like a caged lion when an opponent acts aggressively towards him both in and out of the ring.

Haye compares De Mori to Deontay Wilder

haye7888By Scott Gilfoid: We could be seeing a big mismatch tonight with former two division world champion David Haye (26-2, 24 KOs) getting off the couch finally to climb back into the ring to face a hand-picked opponent named Mark De Mori (30-1-2, 26 KOs). Haye admits that De Mori has not had the experience of fighting guys at his level.

However, Haye for some reason compares De Mori to WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder in mentioning how Deontay defeated Bermane Stiverne last year. Before that fight, Deontay didn’t have big time experience in the pro ranks against the big names, but he did have an Olympic bronze medal going for him. Deontay had also sparred with many good fighters like Wladimir Klitschko and Malik Scott, so it wasn’t like he was totally green fighter like Haye makes him out to be.

“Granted, he hasn’t fought anyone on my level but that can be misleading,” Haye said to ringtv.com. “Remember, Deontay Wilder hadn’t fought anyone until he won the WBC title from Bermane Stiverne…so this is his big shot against a former champion.”

Szpilka gave Deontay some lip service during the face off after the weigh-in, saying “You are going down. You are going down.”
