Hearn wants Joshua vs. Wilder to be PPV in U.S

By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn wants the unification fight between his fighter IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (18-0, 18 KOs) and American WBC champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (37-0, 36 KOs) to be on pay-per-view not only in the UK, but also in the U.S.

Right now, if the Joshua-Wilder fight were to be televised in the States, it would almost certainly be on non-PPV. The reason for that is because Wilder is not a big star in the U.S and neither is Joshua. The American boxing public has only seen two or three of Joshua’s fights on Showtime, and those were mismatches against weak opposition in Charles Martin, Eric Molina and Dominic Breazeale.

Dibella sees Gerald Washington as good test for Deontay Wilder

Image: Dibella sees Gerald Washington as good test for Deontay Wilder

By Scott Gilfoid: Promoter Lou Dibella has found a very good fighter in #10 WBC Gerald Washington (18-0-1, 12 KOs_ to step in and replace Andrzej Wawrzyk as the opponent for WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (37-0, 36 KOs) for their fight on February 25 on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox and Fox Deportes at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

Wawrzyk failed a drug test after testing positive for the banned anabolic steroid stanazolol. Dibella believes that the 6’7” Washington will be more of a test than the 6’6” Wawrzyk would have been, and he’s probably right.

Deontay Wilder vs. Gerald Washington on Feb.25

Image: Deontay Wilder vs. Gerald Washington on Feb.25

By Jeff Aranow: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (37-0, 36 KOs) has his replacement opponent with unbeaten #10 WBC Gerald Washington (18-0-1, 12 KOs) stepping forward to face the 6’7” Wilder on February 25 on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

Considering how little time there was for the “Bronze Bomber” and his management team to find a suitable replacement for Andrzej Wawrzyk, who was pulled from the card after testing positive for a banned chemical, it’s surprising that they were able to get someone as good as the 34-year-old Washington to step in to take the fight.

By Jeff Aranow: Unbeaten #10 WBC Gerald Washington (18-0-1, 12 KOs) is a possible opponent for WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (37-0, 36 KOs) for his next title defense on February 25 at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama. RingTV.com is reporting that the 34-year-old Washington is one of three names that are being looked over by Wilder’s promoters as a replacement to fill in for Andrzej Wawrzyk, who failed a recent drug test for the fight and was subsequently pulled from the card.

Wawrzyk tested positive for the steroid stanozolol. There was no way that he could be left to face Wilder after that positive test.

Tyson Fury volunteers to fight Deontay Wilder

By Scott Gilfoid: Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) tweeted today saying that if WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (37-0, 36 KOs) can’t get a replacement opponent for his next title defense on February 25, then he’ll agree to fight him on that date.

Fury likes to flap his gums about fighting Deontay, but he never fights him. This is pretty much the norm for Fury. I don’t think he wants any part of fighting the hard hitting Deontay, and I can’t blame him. Deontay has true one-punch power, and he would get to Fury’s chin and test it. Could Fury take Wilder’s power? I doubt it.

Joshua plans to work through dream fight ‘hit list’

Image: Joshua plans to work through dream fight ‘hit list’

By Adam Godfrey: Anthony Joshua yesterday revealed the existence of a ‘hit list’ containing potential opponents against which he plans to do battle in the short to medium term future. These are the marquee names that Joshua hopes will someday soon elevate his status, should he maintain his unbeaten record, to that of Boxing Superstar both at home and abroad. If Joshua’s plan purported plan materialises, 2017 could be a big year for fans of the Heavyweight division.

Joshua told Sky Sports “I can’t wait for Tyson Fury to get back, for David Haye to deal with Tony Bellew or Bellew to deal with Haye. Klitchko, Wilder, Joseph Parker-those name are the key names for me. I’ve got them all pinned up somewhere and I’m just going to pluck them off one by one”.

Wilder needs new opponent, Wawrzyk fails drug test

Image: Wilder needs new opponent, Wawrzyk fails drug test

By Jeff Aranow: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder got some bad news on Wednesday with his scheduled opponent Andrzej Wawrzyk testing positive for a banned drug. Wilder and Wawrzyk were supposed to be facing each other on February 25 on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

Wilder, 31, might still wind up defending his World Boxing Council strap if his management can find a replacement opponent. Wawrzyk was a voluntary defense for Wilder, so it’s possible that a replacement can be found to save the card.
