Daniel Jacobs says he’ll fight Peter Quillin next

EW5G4572(Photo credit: Lucas Noonan/Premier Boxing Champions) By Dan Ambrose: WBA “regular’ middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (30-1, 27 KOs) got a cheap win tonight with his opponent 24-year-old Sergio “Latin Snake” Mora (28-4-2, 9 KOs) suffering a freakish leg injury in the 2nd round of his fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The referee Gary Rosato stopped the fight and ruled it a 2nd round knockout despite Mora not having been touched. Rather than give Mora a rematch to clear up the controversy, Jacobs says he’ll be facing former WBO 160lb champion Peter Quillin next in a battle of Brooklyn fighters.

Daniel Jacobs hoping to KO Sergio Mora this Saturday on ESPN

001-Danny-Jacobs-IMG_4514By Dan Ambrose: WBA World middleweight belt holder Daniel Jacobs (29-1, 26 KOs) is hoping to get a knockout victory this Saturday night in his voluntary title defense against #10 WBA Sergio “The Latin Snake” Mora (28-3-2, 9 KOs) on Premier Boxing Champions on ESPN on the undercard of the Danny Garcia vs. Paulie Malignaggi fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

For Jacobs, this is his second consecutive voluntary defense after his win over Caleb Truax in his recent first defense. It looks like Jacob’s adviser Al Haymon isn’t taking any chances with him by taking his time before he’s finally forced to defend against his No.1 Chris Eubank Jr. or Tureano Johnson.

Daniel Jacobs: I see Sergio Mora as the most devastating opponent I’ve had thus far

mora1By Dan Ambrose: WBA World middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (29-1, 26 KOs) is taking seriously his title defense next month on August 1st against former WBA junior middleweight champion Sergio Mora (28-3-2, 9 KOs) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Mora, 34, is ranked only #11 by the WBA, and is clearly not the same fighter he once was seven years ago when he was the WBA 154lb champ, but he’s easily one of the better fighters than Jacobs has fought during his career.

Daniel Jacobs defends against Sergio Mora on August 1st

jacobs45By Dan Ambrose: WBA World middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (29-1, 26 KOs) will be taking another voluntary defense of his WBA title on August 1st against #11 WBA fringe contender Sergio Mora (28-3-2, 9 KOs) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

It’s a safe fight for Jacobs, who hasn’t faced a tough opponent since getting blown out in 6 rounds by Dmitry Pirog in 2010. With all the available options for Jacobs to fight, Mora is clearly one of the safer fights for him due to his lack of punching power and his advanced age of 34.

Jack beats Dirrell, captures WBC title; Jacobs stops Truax

By Scott Gilfoid: #8 WBC contender Badou Jack (19-1-1, 12 KOs) pulled off a big upset tonight in beating a lethargic WBC super middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell (27-1-1, 22 KOs) by a 12 round majority decision to capture his WBC 168 pound title on Friday night at the UIC Pavilion, in Chicago, Illinois, USA.

The final judges’ scores were 114-114, 116-112 and 115-113. I had the fight scored a draw. It was poor scoring in my view. I felt that the referee didn’t do a good job of controlling the fouling that Jack was doing, as he frequently hit Dirrell with rabbit punches in the clinch, and he threw him on the canvas at one point. There was also a lot of low blows from Jack in the last four rounds of the fight.
