Jacobs wants Lee-Saunders winner

Daniel Jacobs vs Peter QuillinBy Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin isn’t the only interested observer who will be watching this Saturday’s contest between WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee (34-2-1, 24 KOs) and Billy Joe Saunders (22-0, 12 KOs). WBA World “Regular” middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) will be watching the fight, and he hopes to face the winner of the fight next.

However, Jacobs is rooting for the 31-year-old Lee to beat Saunders, because he sees that as a potentially bigger fight for him than a fight against Saunders.

Hearn thinks Eubank Jr. has the chance to accomplish big things

eubank4333By Scott Gilfoid: Promoter Barry Hearn thinks #1 WBA middleweight contender Chris Eubank Jr. (21-1, 16 KOs) has a chance to create big things with his pro career. Hearn believes that the 26-year-old Eubank Jr. has the potential to surpass his famous father Chris Eubank Sr’s career if things work well for him. Eubank Sr. was involved with 19 world title fights in his career.

Whether Eubank Jr. succeeds or not at the upper level of the 160lb division starts next year, when he faces WBA “regular” middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) for his world tile. Eubank Jr. earned the right to fight Jacobs last Saturday when he beat Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan by a 7th round knockout in a WBA World middleweight title eliminator.

‘You want to put Eubank Jr with Golovkin or Jacobs? I don’t think so’ – Warren

eubank46663444By Scott Gilfoid: Promoter Frank Warren doesn’t see #1 WBA Chris Eubank Jr. (21-1, 16 KOs), in his present form, as being ready to fight the likes of WBA “regular” champion Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) or IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs). Warren questions Eubank Jr’s defensive skills or lack thereof, and his lack of huge punching power. Those areas would be real problems for Eubank Jr. in a fight against the likes of Jacobs and Golovkin.

Eubank Jr. earned the right to face Jacobs next with a 7th round stoppage win over Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan (22-2, 15 KOs) last Saturday night in an WBA eliminator bout. It was a good performance from Eubank Jr., as he shined in beating O’Sullivan. Eubank Jr. had little problems pounding out a stoppage against the limited O’Sullivan.

Jacobs vs. Eubank Jr possible for April 9th

jacobs444(Photo credit: Edward Diller/DiBella Entertainment) By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBA Chris Eubank Jr’s promoter Eddie Hearn is hoping to possibly match Eubank Jr. against WBA “regular” middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) as early as April 9th in order to have that fight take place on the same card as his highly popular fighter Anthony Joshua at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Hearn is about to start discussions with Jacobs’ management to put the fight together as soon as possible. Eubank Jr defeated Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan (22-2, 15 KOs) by a 7th round stoppage last Saturday night in a WBA World 160lb title eliminator on the undercard of the Joshua vs. Dillian Whyte card on Sky Box Office.

Eubank Jr: I think I can stop Daniel Jacobs!

eubank465By Scott Gilfoid: After his 7th round stoppage win over #5 WBA Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan (22-2, 15 KOs) last Saturday night in their WBA 160lb title eliminator, #1 WBA Chris Eubank Jr. (21-1, 16 KOs) says he’s ready to fight WBA “regular” middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) for his title in 2016.

Eubank Jr feels that a win over O’Sullivan means that he can face Jacobs and KO him. I’m not sure why Eubank Jr thinks that beating O’Sullivan means that he’ll be able to KO a talent like Jacobs, but he’s got it worked out in his head to mean that.

“I’m ready to fight for a world title; whether it’s against him [Jacobs] or whether it’s against the winner of Saunders-Lee. It doesn’t matter to me,” Eubank Jr. said at the post-fight press conference last Saturday night.

Jacobs-Quillin averages only 386K viewers on Showtime

Daniel Jacobs vs Peter QuillinBy Dan Ambrose: Last Saturday night’s card between WBA “regular’ middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) and Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin (32-1-1, 23 KOs) brought in really low viewing numbers on Showtime Championship Boxing from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. According to Dan Rafael, the Jacobs-Quillin fight averaged a pitiful 386,000 viewers with a peak of 408,000 viewers on Showtime.

The fight ended in a 1st round knockout with Jacobs blasting Quillin out, but the viewing numbers still should have been better than that if there was any fan interest in the middleweight contest.

Eubank Jr. looking to earn Daniel Jacobs title shot

eubank4By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBA Chris Eubank Jr. (20-1, 15 KOs) will be looking to put himself into position for a world title shot against WBA “regular” middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs this Saturday in his WBA 160lb title eliminator against #6 WBA Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan (22-1, 15 KOs) at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Both fighters are predicting knockout in this fight, but the closer reality is that the fight will most likely go to the cards. The guys that O’Sullivan and Eubank Jr. have been knocking out thus far have been the weak variety of fighters, so it’s not surprising that they’re scoring KOs.

Neither guy has the kind of Gennady Golovkin type punching power or talent to just go out and mow down the better opposition in the middleweight division.

Peter Quillan vs. Daniel Jacobs Aftermath

Daniel Jacobs vs Peter QuillinBy Matthew J. Hunter: It took less than a round for the Battle of Brooklyn to be decided when Jacobs landed a thunderous straight right that had Quillin wobbled and backing up to the ropes. From that point to the end of the fight, Jacobs unloaded everything he had at a dazed and confused Quillin tried to tie Jacobs up.

After a couple right hands landed flush on Quillin, he almost went down and the referee, sensing Quillin was out on his feet, stopped the fight.

Does Jacobs rate Canelo fight?

jacobs444(Photo credit: Edward Diller/DiBella Entertainment) By Dan Ambrose: WBA “regular” middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) impressed a lot of boxing fans last Saturday night with his 1st round knockout over former 160lb champion Peter Quillin (32-1-1, 23 KOs) on Showtime Championship Boxing.

The win by Jacobs could open up some doors for him to get bigger fights in the future. Promoter Lou Dibella says he’d like to see Jacobs face former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. A fight between the two of them would be a unification fight, as Canelo is now the WBC 160lb champion. One problem that could get in the way of a Jacobs vs. Canelo fight though is the catch-weight division that Canelo has carved out for himself.

Mayweather thinks Jacobs-Quillin fight was halted prematurely

Daniel Jacobs vs Peter Quillin(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Jr. thinks that referee Harvey Dock prematurely halted last Saturday night’s middleweight clash between WBA “regular’ middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) and Peter “Kid Chocolate” Qullin (32-1-1, 23 KOs) by stopping the fight in the 1st round after Quillin was staggered badly by Jacobs.

Mayweather thinks the fight should have been allowed to continue despite the fact that Jacobs was pounding a near defenseless Quillin at will with punches.
